You know, I think I've actually seen that jacket. It's not a Redskins logo if it's the one I'm thinking of.

Didnt have time to look this up earlier, but just to show that PWP's snap count wasnt so outlandish, there was a 3 game stretch where he was spot on and even exceeded his parameters in week 8.

    Week 7 - 20 snaps
    Week 8 - 28 snaps
    week 9 - 15 snaps

By the way, they won every one of those games.

His snap count on the season was 123. Thats snap count, not touches everyone, in case anyone is wondering.

Nice thread and breakdown. The first 4 are obvious...with Brown,Bryant,Wheaton,Coates...now, the 5th spot is wide open

Thank you sir for the stat gathering. I think those stats are exactly where he needs to be. His speed and blocking ability require it . I am not saying he can catch like AB or we would all agree he needs every Offensive snap. That was never my point,my point is what the point is. He brings a lot to the table in a 4WR set .That's all I saying .

The value of DHB diminishes when you consider that the other receivers are younger, already better (probably including Coats), will only get better, and all of them are also not as but very close to being as fast. I see no need for DHB. AB and Wheaton are your possession guys and Bryant and Coats are your deep threats.

apples to oranges, last year Martavis was a rookie, we did not have Sammie Coates, no one knew Wheaton would turn into a very good receiver, and Heath Miller was still recovering from his injury.

This year Heath is 100 percent, Martavis is a legit star in the making, Sammie Coates is literally a beast and has been compared to Terrell Owens physically. He is the most imposing WR on the field visually. Markus Wheaton looks to have a breakout season this year, and Lev Bell is now the best RB and pass catching RB in the NFL which no one knew last year.

To do what PWP wants you have to take a legitimate quality WR off the field and replace with DHB who cant catch a bullet from a sharpshooter with his mouth wide open.....

DHB was only on the field last year due to lack of depth. That is not the case this year. Quite the opposite, we have the best WR group in the entire NFL now.

DHB will never see those snaps ever again unless someone starting breaks a femur.

DHB doesnt bring anything to the table in 4 receiver sets. He was on the field because the steelers LITERALLY had no one else and no depth.

Why put a decoy that cant catch on the field when you have quality sitting on the bench?

Locks on the 53 are.... Brown, Bryant, Wheaton, Coates........ That leaves one spot left as we'll most likely only keep five. DHB was real fast, supposed to take the top off defenses. He's slowed down, ( still has decent speed) and with stone hands isn't a WR offenses fear and able to take the top off. Doesn't matter, we have Bryant for that. Supposed to be a great STer..... has maybe 1 tackle last yr.

If CJ can show ST ability the job is his. Phillips may excite people in preseason, he's most likely PS bound with Devin Gardner.

We just differ on what we think a lot of snaps is, I dont think 20 snaps a game is all that much. Coates probably won't see the field until around game 6 or 8, he will be brought along much like Bryant was, maybe even slower since there isnt as big a need to get him on the field as there was with Bryant. So DHB really won't be taking snaps away from anyone. Depending on how many times they go 4 wide will determine if he meets PWP's snap count.

I think CJ and coates advancement will make or break DHB and wheatons need as we go. how quickly they advance will make or break these two.

Not that literally - we had Lance Moore, Justin Brown, and I'm sure Derek Moye was probably waiting at the bus stop if they really needed him.

I see your point about the decoy, though. It's a bit like Archer, in a way - the player has to do some damage at some point in order for defences to really pay attention to them. This is precisely why the emergence of Bryant opened up the passing game so well. For both DHB and Archer, though, the potential is there to do some damage.

The battle for those last few spots at WR will be intriguing in preseason. Mac is right - CJ and Coates should be knocking on the door as hard as they can right now.

With Archer, the play is in front of them but with DHB, bad hands or not, if he goes deep, they have to cover him. I think DHB is a much more effective decoy than Archer. If you stretch the field, its going to open things underneath.

Where I disagree with PWP is, I don't think DHB is nearly as indispensable as he does. He could be cut at any time and it wouldn't surprise me. I would love to see Mann correct his catching problems because then this WR group would be incredibly scary.

If Coates and DHB both end up good, we should just call 5-wide Hail Mary's with Bell on a short route underneath all day long.

I still think DHB has a nice career left as a 4th. or 5th. WR that plays ST'S . If all our other WR'S blow up we will not be able to keep them all . I like DHB in the role of being a good steady when this does occur . I also like having a Vet who knows the game in case one of the young studs go down .

The Team is getting a great deal with DHB and I think they see it similar to me .

If Coates develops as the 4th WR, the Steelers offense is going to be really hard to defend. You put Bryant and Coates on the same side of the field defenses will struggle to cover those guys, or it will open things underneath for AB, Bell, or Heath.

You're forgetting the value he brought to the ST. I think one of the blog writers went back to look at his play on ST and he's definitely a keeper for that alone.

I agree about the Richard mann part. we are sitting very well with a guy that can teach this group (old and new) to be better and that's a huge plus for us right now.:smiley1::cool:

I don't have enough faith in the OL to keep Ben from getting murdered if we go five wide. Defenses would see no blitz pickup from a TE or RB and overwhelm one side.

That is the just of going 5 Wide . You dare that Team to blitz and it is on the QB and OC to design patterns that get the ball out before anyone can get there. This is exactly why all Teams practice the 7 on 7 drill , the law of physics won't allow a QB to get sacked from the gun if the ball is out in around 1.4 seconds or so.

The main goal of 5 Wide is to catch a 4.4 or so WR in space 1 on 1 against a 4.5 DB and it's off to the races ...My money is on the faster guy who knows where he is going....Again the key is the QB hitting the right guy in the right stride . If done properly it will destroy any blitz every single time.
