I'm going to make the unpopular statement that I agree with the OP. If these young men want to spend their time on twitter or facebook, fine. Their teammates are probably playing Madden 2012 in the hotel room anyway. But if they can't handle a few negative comments from ignorant fans then they should not read them, let alone reply to them with the kind of comments that Pouncey did. We all know that a lot of these guys aren't incredibly smart, but they almost all graduated from college and get paid millions to play a game. Their income is a direct result of the passionate fans who follow them and their team. Rise above the negative comments and stay away from following the kind of responses.

Last time I checked, no one has ever increased their standing among fans by calling them losers and bragging about how much more they get paid than their fans. Not to mention the logic that he has no reason to be mad, because he's rich. Sound like an arrogant ***hole to me. I'd much rather have a team full of commited, hard working, humble players on my team. Maybe it was that same type of arrogance that led to the teams lack of preparation / motivation against the Broncos.

If I'm battling an injury and just watched my team endured a whooping, I'd be testy too. Don't be so quick to criticize Pouncey. I'm sure he wanted to play - injuries and all. Of all the twitterers, I wouldn't be surprised if a good percentage of them called in sick today.

*proctor and gamble is moving towards no longer advertising on tv. just facebook.
*facebook is the third-largest country in the world
*every business should adhere to the following minimum standards:
*a fb page w/1,000 followers
*a twitter page w/500 followers
*a linked in page w/250 connections
. . . if you own or operate a business that doesn't meet these minimum standards, you're probably irrelevant in your industry.

Pouncey is also good, nobody said he wasn't. Is it that hard to understand. ***holes can be good football players. But that doesn't mean I have to like them. Isn't that what the OP was saying? ...Starting to really not like this guy. I agree with that statement.

Pouncey is an employee not an employer. Do all successful businesses require all of their employees to maintain these follower minimums. I work for a construction company which has no social media accounts that I am aware of and we do about 200 Million dollars worth of business per year with about 1000 employees. I wouldn't call that irrelevant.

I'm with you. My 23 year old son follows some of the Steeler players on Twitter and he's always running up to me saying you should see what this guy or that guy tweeted. I'm like I couldn't give a rats ass what they have to tweet about. The only thing that matters to me is how they play on Sunday.

I say some pretty dumb things when I'm mad so I don't think it's too big of a deal. At least he didn't tell the fan to kill himself. Mendenhall hasn't touched Twitter since the lockout ended. Perhaps the rest of the players should do the same. Heck, Woodly and Harrison are on Twitter and Facebook an hour and a half before games.

The few guys who do use the social media need to get a grip. It won't be long before Roger G. is handing out fines for this kind of stuff, too. Pouncey was unprofessional, to say the least.

This is from scraps original post: if he misses any more games next season I will really think we wasted a 1st round draft choice. So many people were pimping this guy, I hope they don't all turn out to be wrong.

Twitter is totally useless. Like someone mentioned earlier, no good can come out of it.

The Rooneys and/or Tomlin should enforce a 'No Twitter' policy for the players. Period.

He is however the owner and operator of his brand. ASk Mendenhall what happens when you speak your mind without considering what the business side of your actions are. He is hurting his chances at endorsements and marketing himself to the public. If he is ok with that then by all means speak your mind if not then ignore the idiots.

This is very true of many athletes, celebrities, and brands. A lot of times these accounts are run or co-run by PR people or supposed 'social media experts'. This was my first assumption with MP this morning, but I think he really just learned that a playoff loss + top shelf liquor in a lonely hotel room + twitter for iphone = a big mess to clean up Monday morning. I've read Pouncey's timeline before and these were way out of character.

Doesn't matter if the source is Twitter, TV, or the paper. If your response to criticism is how much more important you are because you have more followers or the fact that you make a lot you're rich and your critic isn't, you need to grow up and rise above.

BS, first, lets not forget Pouncey is 23 years old, still a kid himself. Second, how about fans acting like human beings for a change instead of asking athletes to always look the other way.
