I'd say it's all a bit speculative at this point.

The official depth chart is only released during training camp, as far as I'm aware.

I think they're a tad overzealous with the rookies.

James over Blanchflower? I don't buy it. I think Blanch is more Heath and James is more Spaeth. Blanch and James could be our future 1/2 TE's. I think Blanch is more rounded than James and has a year of NFL seasoning under his belt. James should be the clear #4 TE at this point.

PWP will love this, but no way in heck does Coates vault over DHB in the depth chart. If it happens this year it won't be until week 8, kind of like what happened to Bryant. Coates makes our 53, but not over DHB. He's our 5th and final WR.

Dupree and Harrison both over Jarvis? No way, Jarvis is week 1 starter for sure, and likely throughout the season. If anyone loses job to Dupree, it's Moats, and I don't see that happening either. Look, I like Dupree and am excited for him as much as the next guy, but he's not going to usurp Jones as the starter. He'll be situation this year, with playing time growing by year's end. He should be in Zumwalt's spot as backup on the left.

They've got the CB position all jacked up. Gay and Blake will be the starters, with Golson and grant their reserves. I think Allen is done; whatever head games he suffered last year I think will be enough to keep him grounded. They need to bump Golson back and Grant up. I don't see how it's possible that Blake goes from our 2nd best CB to #7 on the depth chart.

One rookie I think they are underestimating is Holliman. I don't see a scenario where he doesn't beat out Golden for the reserve FS position.

Agree with all of this except Cortez, I think he can bounce back. The rest I feel is spot on.

This chart is in no way official.

That being said, please see below my unofficial "WAY TO EARLY" 53 man roster.

    Ben, Grad, Jones (3)
    Bell, Williams, Archer, Harris (4)
Brown, Wheaton, Bryant, Coates, Heyward-Bey (5)
    Miller, Spaeth, James (3)
Beachum, Foster, Pouncey, DeCastro, Gilbert, Adams, Wallace, Villanueva, Finney (9)

    TOTAL = 24

Heyward, McLendon, Tuitt, Geathers, Thomas, McCullers (6)
Moats, Dupree, Jones, Harrison, Timmons, Shazier, Williams, Spence (8)
Gay, Allen, Blake, Golson, Grant, Webb (6)
Mitchell, Thomas, W. Allen, Golden (4)

    TOTAL = 24

IMO, most of the spots you see above are all set.

I fully believe that Coates will beat out DHB in camp. He's a good ST's player as well, so no loss there..

If I'm wrong I'll eat crow but I think it will happen and it will happen very early in the process. Coates is further along at this stage than Bryant was last year.

Maybe I am off base with this thought- we're used to Lebeau's way of holding rookies out regardless. Butler could be different in that if the rookie can outperform a vet the rookie(s) will earn a starter job.

I didn't realize Jarvis Jones was now our 6th OLB. I'd say it's not official.

My thought on Thomas is that he makes the team unless Walton is awesome in camp. My guess right now is the team keeps the vet and puts Walton on the PS.

Golden should be able to be beaten out by Holliman, but only if Holliman can prove that he is willing to do the dirty work and tackle on special teams.

I haven't figured out how I feel about Johnson. I like him, but we don't really use him much at all. I'm not sure I hold a spot any more for a guy who we're not going to play.

Yeah, I only put together up to 48. I feel more comfortable with the O than the D right now as to who makes it. The real struggle on offense is the O Line. 7 spots are probably sewn up, but the question then become how many do we keep? From the skill position perspective, the only guy I did not list which I think could be on the roster is Will Johnson. I'm just not sure how they view him. Yeah, I think they like him, but then why don't they play him more?

On defense, I feel pretty confident with the guys I have listed, it is all the other guys that make me wonder. We have more LBs than we can keep. We have one safety which I really don't like, but the draft replacement isn't known for his ability to tackle and would only make the roster by playing good special teams. I have 24 guys listed, but I think these guys have a shot:

    Walton
    Chickillo
    Garvin
    Lemon
    H. Jones
    Zumwalt
    Holliman

Anyone I'm missing that you think can make the roster?

The case of Holliman reminds me a little bit of AQ Shipley a few years ago - a lot of people were celebrating the pick despite his short arms, and when he got to camp he was cut for pretty much that reason.

I hope it's not the case, as we need ballhawks. But it will likely be a case of Holliman just showing enough to keep him around so he can develop the other aspects of his game.

    But here's to hoping.

I think you're right on Cam T as well. We MUST be able to do better, though.

I would say Harrison, Dupree, or Jarvis would be in front of Moats. Dupree in front of Jarvis already? That seams a bit early. I would not cancel out the chance to that Jarvis may end up finally panning out and be in front of Harrison. It is a long shot but still possible.

Long shot? That's how it currently is. Porter has already said Harrison will be a rotational player. In an accurate depth chart, Jones and Moats would be the starters, with Harrison the backup on the right and Dupree the backup on the left. How much that will change, we won't know until training camp.

Hopefully a vet with a little gas left in the tank becomes a salary casualty in someone elses training camp.
