I know you were at training camp, so as an in-person experience it's something special to you, but don't you put more stock in what he did on the game field? You weren't happy with his performance in training camp, but then the season started and he played the best ball of his career before his wrist injury. That doesn't dissuade you?

I can't imagine the public evaluating me based on practice. That's the time it's supposed to be okay to make mistakes. That's the time you're supposed to learn. And Heath Miller and Matt Spaeth are no ordinary TEs, either. They kick the asses of players a lot bigger, stronger, and more experienced than Jarvis.

If Jarvis starts 16 games this year, I'll predict 8 sacks.

Yeah I think 10 is a good number to expect from JJ.

He showed good promise before his injury, Heyward will be another year stronger/better, and Tuitt/OLB on the other side should help lighten the load on the right.

I think Coach Butler will add more hands in the dirt more often than we used to . I think the extra beff will help Jones . He has a good first step and a good motor , but not enough power . He needs more beef around him.

Tuitt is the main factor here, I think. Worilds didn't play worth $10M, but he was no slouch. He demanded attention, at least. I don't think we can count on that position to be upgraded this year.

But that LDE spot was like a vacancy. Cam Thomas most of the year, then the rookie Tuitt, who was better, but still very green. If he can start demanding double teams, we'll have two interior players that shouldn't be blocked one-on-one. That'll help both edges. We need Tuitt to get it into gear, which I think he will.

I don't see how anyone thinks JJ is gona get 10 sacks, I guess its just hopeful thinking on there part. He has shown nothing since he has been here except that he gets hurt A LOT!!..... He is a complete waste of a Draft pick... jmo but i bet im not the only thinking this way

I will take that bet also.Too light OL push him out of the play, this is why I am hoping the Steelers draft a heavier type OLB.

No, 10 would be hopeful. He had 2 sacks in 3 games, it's not unreasonable to project 8. I'd give him 10 easy had he not lost a whole year of development.

Why do you hold him to the play he displayed in his rookie season but discount the good play to open last season? Double standards!

I don't judge a edge rusher just on sacks, he also has to get pressure, hits, and knockdowns, plus make tackles for loss. An edge rusher needs good hands and a strong grip, a wrist injury with surgery is a major injury, so I'm willing to wait and see.
My concern is that he was a #1 pick with serious neck questions. Does that make him so cautious that it takes away his aggressiveness, and I wonder if the wrist is good.

If he turns into Greg Lloyd or Joey Porter type, cool. Even a Jason Gildon type, good.

I'd like to see him make JH take a seat on the bench and use JH to give JJ a blow.

    An indicator was necessary?:smiley1:

Uh the one with the x was in poor taste. It was one of those cartoon type things with a dude flipping flapjacks.

Listen, there were plenty enough threads reflecting this position. We'll see what happens?

I don't think that's EVER going to happen. If anything, JH would do that to other guys before he lets someone do that to him.

JH is like 35+, and JJ is like 25. Now, if a 25 year old 1st round pick can't make a 35 year old undrafted free agent take a seat, then that first round youngster is a bust.

I have a suspicion that JJ's neck problem is his biggest problem. There was some talk before the draft that he maybe should not even play pro football - but we drafted him #1 anyway.
The first time a LT puts a hand in JJ's facemask and pushes on his head, JJ may lose some aggressiveness to protect his spinal cord.

This is a question that needs to be answered, along with the dislocated wrist. Is he going to play with the wreckless abandon that is necessary?

Slow and not strong. Where is the upside? As Greg Lloyd said,

"From what I've seen of Jarvis Jones, and don't get me wrong, I'm a fan, but from what I've seen him do, I could take a guy from the golf course I play at and have him do the same thing - just run up the field."
