    .........this guy.

    http://bleacherreport.com/tb/dgmBa?...m=newsletter&utm_campaign=pittsburgh-steelers

Not only did all the top brass go to his pro day, but now they took him out to dinner.

Usually, when Pgh does this, they draft the guy.

If nothing else, it illustrates they are at LEAST open to drafting a CB in the 1st round. I don't know all that much about this guy, other than he is considered one of the top CBs in the draft. I hope he's $. We really need a great player.

Well, the little I know about him, I would have no problem with this pick. My only issue is how many people are picking us to take him. I can see another team getting the jump on it.

I see they also met with Max Garcia. Another mid-round project for the o-line?

Was that ever in doubt? At the least, there's only a few positions they wouldn't be open to, and at the most, all signs point to a DB or LB.

Based on their lack of drafting a CB in the 1st...there's always doubt, lol

Here is what I don't like about bleacher report, not that I think they are wrong or that I don't like this kid it's just they do sloppy work. He was a three year starter at Wake yet they only list numbers from last season, incomplete numbers at that. He gave up 24 receptions in 12 games so on average two a game which is meaningless with out context. How many times was he targeted? Pass defended? Broken up? How about for the entire 3 years?

Then they talk about 8 teams who are also interested and have higher picks than the Steelers so if he is a late 1st Rd maybe 2nd round guy they have to take him early or not at all. Just some sloppy work. OK rant done.

If he's on the board I would be very surprised if he's not our selection.

This. But I don't suspect you don't go out to dinner with someone you aren't considering in a real way. And some of the mocks I am seeing shows ALL possible CBs still on the board when we pick, which I find unusual. With the pass happy trend of this league, I am surprised no CB is thought to go before 22?

This has us taking peters. Any thought on who the better prospect is? Peters or Johnson. When I read up on Johnson, he doesn't seem to fit Steelers' usual philosophy, and I am really not crazy about his reported weaknesses. Think frame and a liability in rush tackling? That isn't very Steeler-like at all, unless Butler is going to change our overall philosophy.

They also broke bread with Collins from lsu.. And I remember Tomlin having dinner with Kirk cousins a few years back. Obviously taking a prospect out to dinner definitely means something.. But doesn't mean we will draft them. Could be just another way to judge the character of the player.

I think they also had dinner with Devante Parker, and he's a near lock to go in the first.

i like Johnson's film. Watching Peters made me crazy. I couldn't even finish one of his games because he looked so unwilling to tackle anyone.

I just want to go on record I am no scout and that this is just my opinion on the little film I watched and what I have read. I would be ok with the pick of Johnson at 22 but that would not me my pick. I would rather go OLB in the 1st depending how the draft shakes out. I do not like to focus on one position cause I believe in BPA. With that said I feel this class is deep at CB and we could get just as good of a guy in the 2nd maybe even 3rd at CB but we can't say that about the OLB position.

Now here is my thoughts on Johnson, I watched the Clemson game and didn't like a few things. One thing is how he fell for the double move and on his scouting report that was mentioned as a weakness. Another thing if we need him to tackle we could be in trouble. I didn't like the fact that he used his hand a little to much, a lot of jersey grabbing. Now what I did like was how he broke on the ball. He did pick off a pass in the that game but he was also covering a TE which I noticed he did some of. I did watch a little of the Fla St game and seen some of the same.

If Johnson ends up out pick at 22 then fine I will hope a little coaching helps him out but if you ask me I would prefer to go another route.

I like what I have been reading on Carter and Mauldin so far, I seen one article where they were talking about Carter being the best fit for our system. I like Kikaha but his 2 knee injuries worry me but that is the only thing he has talent.

I can't see them picking Kevin Johnson at all, unless they are really planning to change up their Defense. This guy is really light in the seat, Steelers cbs need to hit.

I agree, this guy just isn't a fit for the D we know of. He is more of a pure man-to-man defender, who is slight and not a very good tackler. That really doesn't sound like a Steeler CB, at least, not in the way Dick ran it. So, if they take him, it could mean Butler will be altering the system a lot. All I ever hear from fans is that all our CB need to do is "tackle the ball" meaning, they don't have to be great in man-to-man coverage, so we don't need to pay a lot for them, or draft them very high. But it appears things could be changing.

With respect to Johnson's weight, yes he is 6'0" 188, which is a bit thin. However, the likely #1 corner off the board is Trae Waynes who is 6'0", 186. I've watched a few games each of several of the top corner prospects, and I think KJ is a solid fit for for us. He played plenty of off man, and a bit of zone, and looked pretty good with the play in front of him. We like having our corners play with the action in front of them, and rarely press. Despite his size, he's an adequate tackler. He's not a tackling machine, but if you compare him to Marcus Peters and Jalen Collins, he's a way better tackler on film. At one point I really liked him, but after watching more film of some of the other guys I'm sticking some other guys ahead of him. Still, if he's the pick at #22 it would be OK. He stands a good chance of being a respectable starter in the NFL fairly soon. He doesn't have the high ceiling of a Peters or J. Collins, but he also doesn't have their big-time bust potential IMO.

For me, I'm hoping that a good edge rusher makes it to us at #22 and that we go DB in the 2nd, or maybe even double dip at DB in the 2nd and 3rd. I see the 2nd and 3rd round corners like Rowe, Carter, Grant and others being just as good as the guys projected to go earlier. There's no Revis or Patrick Peterson in this year's draft.

I could see taking an OL if one of the top dogs are there (and at least one should be), but not Harold. I think the only OLB pick in the first I would be excited about is if one of Beasley, Gregory or Ray fell. While I wouldn't hate it if we took Dupree, Harold, OO, or some other second-tier guy, I would not be excited about it.

I still maintain that KJ brings the best combo of value/need/realism and should be our selection if on the board.

I'm starting to really love this draft because of all the different ways we could go with our first selection. WR, TE, OL, DB, DL, and LB are all conceivably in play for our first pick. Should make it a very interesting Thursday evening for us.

Interesting GB, I actually dislike how this draft looks like it will play out. I expect that when pick 22 rolls around, all of the really good pass rushers will be gone, and we'll end up with our choice of a bunch of guys who are really 2nd round caliber prospects, and/or guys at positions at which we aren't looking for starters.

    I agree.

I was pretty vague in my statement. I'm starting to love the drama that is building up, and not necessarily who we may end up with. I'm loving this draft for the event itself and because of all the ! We're about to put our $0.25 into the machine at the grocery store and the suspense of who is going to pop out of the little plastic bubble is really growing!
