I know very little about this guy, other than his college stats seem ok... appears to be little more than camp fodder at this stage. Anyone able to give any insight?

He went from being projected as a first round pick to being picked in the 6th by the Jets. The Jets cut him in camp and he ended up playing in the FXFL last year. If he impresses, he could be a contender for a #3 spot.

Martavis Bryant should be happy to see him.

He'll be competing with Cam Thomas. He couldn't do much worse...

Maybe he's a better QB than DE? There's really nowhere to go but up. :D

Hope not, we spent the draft pick on him hope they can get something out of him. I wouldnt however, keep protecting him and lose guys off the PS.

I'm not so sure of that. boyd hasn't exactly set the world on fire either. it depends on how much more jones has absorbed in year two. boyd has the gift of being able to run though. that's a biggy for a 3rd string qb. heck with the class of qb's coming out this year, I'd like to see a priority UDFA at least.

They signed him. I know they typically take 4 QB's into camp... Just wondering if they think he can push Landry or if they're falling out of love with Landry. I agree though, don't care for his taking up a roster spot.

He wasn't even a starter on the college level? But I bet even he is better than Landry Jones. Anyone is.

I don't think Jones has any issue about "absorbing" data; he is a simple case of an inaccurate arm. And it's obviously bad enough that it can't be fixed.

he was a two year starter and very successful at that. he is just a system qb. kinda like jones in that reguard. he has a better arm that jones. good pick up in my opinion

Actually, he was a 3 year starter with over 3,800 yards and 33 or more TD passes in each of the three seasons. He was a pretty solid rusher as well. Personally, I think he has more upside than Jones.

I think neither of them makes it onto our Week 1 2015 roster.

Well if Ben's stays healthy ala last year then yeah don't let either take up a spot on the roster or squad but that's the big IF

If Boyd couldn't make the Jets roster which has no franchise QB, how will he make the Steelers roster?

there is more to absorb than just data. he threw for near 17,000 yards in college. there had to be some accuracy. he ran in a different type of offense in college. he not only has to absorb data but put that with learning to play from under center and drop back footwork along with reading NFL defenses and a much bigger playbook for those defenses. it's far from just head knowledge. so again I say it depends on how much he has absorbed in year two. it's not like we just have a coach coaching these guys day in and day out. they are busy with the starters and then the backup. there is a lot to learn from what he was taught in college and the same goes for boyd.
