Saying he is a border line bust . Well that's my take if he isn't willing to put in the time he may never reach 1st. round potential.

I hope he takes the advice and works the entire off season so he can be a dominate player .

He's saying he has talent, but needs to develop, as at the moment all he's doing is running up and down the field.

I'm not sure it's as controversial a statement as the headline suggests, as there are few who are saying Jones is at the peak of his abilities right now.

Another interesting quote, just in general, was his comment about coaching in Tampa Bay:

porter should just shut up actually because his last year or two here he disappeared for long stretches, leading to us letting him go. he's kind of acting like a legend in his own mind. jj got hurt and not really of his own doing. is he the answer? who knows but he's what we have and I hope KC doesn't pull another panic move like he does and has to draft another guy that may not be quite what we want for the sake of drafting one.

We need to start drafting for traits . I think we need more power . It seems we have had a habit of drafting Speed and that doesn't fit with loose zone coverage . If we get some better CB'S we may get to see if that speed can be used better .

What "trait" does JJ have? He has neither speed nor power. This season is make or break for him.

Supposed to be speed . Very good first step, short area quickness and good closing speed . I have seen some flashes of this . He is for sure not on the power side of things.

He may or may not have a good first step ... but he does not have speed, nor does he move well in space.

Closing speed and he should move well in space .Here is why he was drafted in round #1.

[h=4]Strengths[/h] Versatile linebacker with a chance to play inside or outside. Possesses a very good first step to pressure tackles’ upfield shoulder. Also has closing speed to finish the deal and short-area quickness .

Now has he showed a lot of that ? Nope he has not , but I have seen a little of it.

Put Jarvis in Worilds' spot for an entire season and he at a minimum would match the sack number while providing better run defense. I'm not on the anti-Jarvis ship.

Yeah ... I don't buy that his run defense is good either.

Tomlin has flat out said he thinks the league is moving towards more speedy backers. He said he thinks Shazier is the kind of backer that is gonna be a star going forward. So if that is how Tomlin is seeing things I wouldn't be looking for us to spend a high pick on a guy that's pure power.

No problem with speed from the ILB spot. Basically play him like a SS . At the OLB spot it is a mistake to get guys who are not strong enough . IMO they should be able to battle with the huge tackles and flat out beat TE'S and RB'S

A good OLB should make a Team pay every time they try and block him with a TE or RB . RB'S and TE'S are getting more Athletic as a group thus the reason I would want a Strong OLB force Teams to limit there scheme or pay the price .

I agree that TE's and RB's are something that has to be considered. Guys in the mold of Jimmy Graham are a nightmare and if the league is gonna go that way defenses are gonna absolutely have to adjust. I still would rather have a Gronk type TE than Graham though. Gronk is big enough to help in pass protection but can still match up on a backer and outrun him.

He always seems to be chasing from behind after being driven out of the play by the offensive lineman. It looks like the effort is there from JJ but he seems to get manhandled by bigger and stronger offensive linemen.

You are spot on. He lacks the strength to play the way he is being asked . His value in the run game and in the pass game is pick a spot and get up field . If he waits for contact then he will get beat .

Will this style of play lead to bigger splash plays ? I say yes for him and for the other Team . This is why I hope we go with more 4 and 5 man fronts .

When I look at the roster I see a Team better suited to blitz the gap than they are suited for gap fits .

I think JJ has turned out to be a typical example of kids these days: They don't really want to put in the effort needed to get the job done. His body doesn't look like an NFL LB in my opinion. Does he slam weights or just kind of go through the motions. Compare his body to other starting LBs in the NFL. He is way to small and smooth, not much muscle definition at all. Not every NFL player has to be ripped, but most are, especially at LB; typically, they look like beasts, like Pat Willis. JJ doesn't look like he hits free weights all that much. Sure, neither did LT, but he was a total freak of nature, a one in a billion type of dude.

I agree and I always felt that lebeau's stop the run first mentality wasn't playing to JJ's strenghts. He is better in space using his hands rather than initiating contact where he just gets swallowed up because he doesn't have enough power.
i would like for them to let Worilds walk and use his money elsewhere ,re sign James and Moats and use them in a rotation with Lemon and JJ and possibly HoJo and maybe Zumwalt backing up.

I agree. I didn't understand all the hype during the pre-draft two years ago either. All I saw was a guy getting swallowed up in traffic. A 4.9 40 yd dash. A quick first step is half the battle to a good 40 time. Not sure how he is labeled with that trait either. I have zero confidence he pans out. Sorry, hate to be down on the guy but I just don't think he has it.

I have friends on the street far from being
world class athletes that are bigger than both JJ&
Shazier. These men need to dedicate to their profession, a profession that pays them way above the avg person. Get in the weight room men.

I'm not that concerned about Shazier. He has freakish speed and more than adequate strength. He was bothered by the knee a good part of the season. JJ was injured as well but I haven't seen enough out of him to be encouraged at this point. I'm not ready to call him a bust, but the 2015 is as crucial for him as it is for anybody on the team.
