I know the older players would, I'm not so sure about the younger guys coming in? Kind of like Joe Pa. The young guys started thinking of him as Grandpa rather than the coach.

Butler played linebacker in a 3-4 defense for 10 years with the seahawks, and ever since he became a coach 16 years ago he has taught the 3-4 technique, so dont expect a 4-3 change anytime soon....

I understand what you are saying ... but even some of the younger guys tweets about DL showed how much they liked him...but yea its hard to relate with that much of an age difference

I hate that argument about Ben as well....guess what...we had a great D and running game for years throughout the 90s and early 2000s, but didn't win one....

It will be our most dominate sub package . As it states on Steelers Depot it is simply better against the spread and against the pass . With more Teams doing more of this we will have to run more 4 and 5 man fronts .

But I am hoping that the one of 2 things you suggest will happen is "We will add some good players on defense, the defense will get better, and the posts will say Butler is great." :smiley1:

Not an easy task though. However, it will be interesting to see how the trio of Butler, Colbert and Tomlin [alphabetical order] handles it.

I doubt it on the rookie end unless told from above to start them. As I understand it based on his post draft interviews, he doesn't seem too inclined to hand over a role to a rook.

We don't want to hear excuses we want results. So you had no problem with LeBeau's game plan against the Ravens? The defense sucked and got no pressure on Flacco, which exposed the weak secondary. You can come up with creative blitzes to sack the QB, which LeBeau hasn't done lately so that's on him and good riddance to his lame defense.

The guy's 58... I'm not sure if younger players will respond to that much differently?

    Easy grandpa!

I was just noting that the fact he's younger than Lebeau doesn't make him better for relating to young players, if he's still a fair bit older than them.

Of course, if he was in his 30s, he would probably be branded a "players coach", and we all know how those discussions end...

What is an exotic blitz? I'm having visions of scantily clad young ladies. Although, I'm certain that would distract the QB. Well, with the exception of Brady. It would be old news for him.

It sounds like the major change we are going to see is that the Defensive lineman are no longer going to just be pylons to work around. They now wills schematically be used to make plays and honestly....we have some guys who can make them.

Think we already started seeing that last year, Heyward had 8 sacks and Tuitt can definitely get after the QB. Should be fun to watch.

I was actually thinking the other day about our recent 1st round picks and I was thinking Cam has probably shown the most. He's one of the guys I'm looking forward to watching the most on d this year.

Butler said in a interview after OTAs after the media asked him about his defense, he said not giving any clues but it will be a surprise for New England. I hope he turns these guys loose on Patriots QB Jimmy G.
