Butler can't do a worse job than LeBeau did the last 3 years, so change is good. I hope he brings a more aggressive approach, let's get back to blitzburgh.

Easier on the eye's then DL is anyway. Get her into a skimpy outfit while she is coaching, distract them like the movie The Replacements, secret weapon defense! ;)

For some reason I thought Butler was Black. I think I had him confused with Wilson

rhetorical question.... See the Ben only won in the playoffs because of D threads. Fact is, the offense has been humming better... However for the first time in a lifetime of memories, the D can't help/ support the O. Hopefully that changes real soon. Haley is fine at his spot, I only hope the D can match half the O's potential next year.

---I agree with most of what you say but am not sure about #1. " 1) I doubt Butler will be much different than DL, since he's been here since 2003,"

Not really! More than likely the opposite happens. Like Mularkey for instance he was here from 1996 to 2003. Gailey, Sherman, Gilbride. Not much similarity there. Actually he brought the Steelers into the 21st Century. Very innovative and successful probably the reason for the entire decades success. Then Arians came after Whiz. Completely different handling of Ben etc. Anyhow this has been Butler's job for years now. almost certainly understood by most fans. WTF is all this wrangling about anyhow. Would they prefer Rod Rust or that guy Washington just dumped who was here before? [ Hmm! Washington, good example of transition. Early 90's greatness. 25 years later still at the bottom. Doubtful anyone would prefer that?]

What fans should be concerned about is how the new regime handles the glaring defensive weaknesses that unfortunately [some really bad luck] have sprung up which have set back the remarkable transition to contention accomplished in a few short years. Something, incidentally, that takes most teams decades to achieve.[if ever]

It's not the defense, but the defensive play calling. And it all comes down to the players. When we had great players, an aggressive scheme could be called. With lesser players, a more conservative approach shows up.

Playing tight man coverage with the wrong people can easily turn a long third down conversion into a long third down touchdown. If the guys up front can help get pressure, blitzs work. If not, blitzs get picked up and then receivers get open.

Regarding Butler, he is not going to be standing on the sideline wondering what DL would call. He will call what he believes will work best.

Tomlin will certainly have input as all head coaches do. But during the game, Butler will call the plays. Tomlin will occasionally call a play in specific instances just like he does on offense, but those plays will be minimal.

I liked DL, and I believe it was more the players at fault than the play calling. But I also think a change of pace, and someone a little better to relate to the younger guys, is a good thing.

One of two things will happen. We will add some good players on defense, the defense will get better, and the posts will say Butler is great and DL wasn't any good anymore. Or we don't get some good players, the defense doesn't get better, and the posts will say Butler is just a lousy DL clone.

Please....Although he is not without blame...the guy had nothing to work with...Aging stars, bad FA signings, and draft misses...what do expect him to do wave a magic wand and make everything better....this is a pretty ridiculous post IMO

Agree that a change is needed, but these guys would have went to war for DL
