I don't know about "considered", but he will get an interview due to the Rooney Rule.

I think you'd have to look a bit closer to the nature of the performance to see if that is pinned on Lake or not. We all know the argument about pressure and coverage, and how the two relate. I tend to look at the improvements in the games of McCain, Blake and Gay as huge plusses for Lake. Whether that translates into a tactical ability to organise a whole defense, I don't know. His record speaks more to coaching than coordinating.

Heck no...get the secondary in order first and then maybe we would consider him

At one time I thought he might get some consideration, but now I'm not so sure. I really like Lake and I think he's a smart guy and will be a good DC and maybe more some day. But I'm not sure now is the time.

Honestly, I'm not even sure at this point that I like the idea of Butler taking over. I know he's paid his dues and turned down jobs and all that, and there is something to be said for continuity, but I think we might need an entirely new perspective at this point.

Don't be so sure. That generally only applies to head coaching and football operations positions.

I don't want anymore holdovers or retreads from the previous administration. I want to be able to see that Tomlin is taking the reins and actually hiring his own assistants to run the defense the way he wants it run.

No Cowher guys, no LeBeau guys, no "next in line" Keith Butler who predates Tomlin on the staff ... no son of some longtime Steeler or Rooney family friend.

It's long past time for Tomlin to take control of this team.

How about Jim Schwartz now that Rex Ryan is expected to be named the Bills' head coach and Dennis Thurman is expected to go with him?

Totally agree. Put it all on him, this way we can finally settle the argument whether he is the right guy for the job. If he doesn't put his "stamp" on it there will always be this divide. He has been here long enough to sink or swim with his own decisions. Sad to see Lebeau go,but it was just time. Now let the man who is paid to coach this team put up or shut up.

I'd be willing to bet if the Rooney's had anything to do with DL's departure, they will also have a say in who his replacement is! JMO!

It would be a slap in the face if Keith Butler is not the DC. He's been waiting for years and they block him from taking other jobs. Not that I'm a Butler fan but that would be bad business. IMO.

That would be huge, if they're looking for a drastic switch.

I think it will be butler
Far as Lake, he has to play who he has. I do think Troy and Ike will either get the hint or be told they need to go. Remember when Blake and Allen replaced Troy and Ike in Cincitucky, AJ Green's production stopped. Then we knocked him out of the game but those guys stopped him.
Also remember on Lake, he played Corner then safety and I think he was a LB in collage
He been studying under DL. Smart as everyone always said he is, I think he would be a good DC Also but, like someone said, it would be a slap in the face to butler. I also think Butler would be a good DC

Awesome ... when is the coronation? The line of succession must be preserved at all cost. And after Butler's ascension, Art can anoint someone else next in line. Maybe Art even allows Tomlin to give his opinion before he decides who follows Butler.

Lake was an All Pro SS before he ever played CB for us. And yeah, he was an OLB at UCLA ... and a pretty good pass rusher too. I think he had 10 sacks one season.

"He finished his college career with 45.5 tackles for loss and 25.5 sacks."

Yep, Bills just hired Rex for HC and told him he has to keep Schwartz for DC.

 I think the Rooney rule applies only to head coaches and general managers positions. No Lake shouldn't be considered for DC, he's not even that good of a secondary coach IMO.
