I like about 5 or 6 QB'S in this draft .I like Brett Hundley , Bryce Petty, Garrett Grayson, and Shane Harden not counting the top 2 .I think this is a QB friendly draft and I truly believe that all of the top 6 QB'S are Franchise QB'S as well..

Now if a Team wanted to give up a 1st. and a 2nd. or a 1st. and a 3rd. for Ben I would consider it . Also if Ben wants a 100 million dollar contract I would rather go with a Rookie for 25 or 30 Million that would give us a lot of cash to rebuild this Defense .

At some point we will have to play without Ben , so when is the best time to do so ? If you believe Ben can and will lead us to more Championships then you sign him if you believe he can't carry the Team then you weight your options.

And to the fix the Defense part even if we draft 5 guys and they all hit it will be 3 or 4 seasons before they are allowed to start .

Ben has shown he can play an elite game. His 2005 to 2008 run showed he was a very very good quarterback with a very very good offense and defense. Once that team left him and replacements have come in, we've seen the team go 3 years without the playoffs, and the past 5 years we've gone to the playoffs twice and have been 1 and done. He's had some great stats, but stats don't win rings. While I think he is a "Great" quarterback, I do not see him as being in the same category as Rogers, Manning, or Brady. Is he better than Flacco? Dalton? Many others? Yes. But he's not in the same category as the elite guys either. Manning showed he could go to Denver and with a new team, be a constant threat. Brady has done it his entire career. Rogers? He's gold.

Ben has his best season in the NFL in about every facet you can, and he isn't elite "anymore" because we lost in the playoffs sans our best offensive threat... Come on man.

There re are only 3 truly "elite" pedestal QB's in my opinions Rodgers is the best right now simply because he is still in his prime. Manning and Brady are fading, but have accrued careers worthy of first ballot HoF. Next level is Brees, Ben, Romo, Rivers, Eli, and Luck (no particular order). Brees is a system QB with numbers out the wazoo, but nothing really to show for it other than one SB run. I think Romo is a fantastic QB who has had the raw deal of having to do it all by himself. You see why he is having such a great season with Murray carrying the load. Ben is Ben has the SBs and the stats. Luck can make great plays, but still could pass for a higher completion percentage and turn it over less. Rivers talented but not a playoff performer. Eli has the SBs too.

The rest of the crop is littered with game managers like Alex Smith, Russell Wilson and Flacco. Dual threat guys like Kaepernick and Newton and mediocre gun slingers like Cutler, Ryan, and Stafford.

Romo is not elite ... but he's top 10. He's hardly the worst that people have attempted to pass off as a top QB.

This is so true. Remember the days of Stout, Malone, Tomczak, Graham (was that his name?), Kordell, etc, etc. There are SO many more I cant think of right now.

The biggest difference is QB'S where very hard to find . Most young QB'S could not come in and play early in there career . In todays game lots of college Teams are throwing more so are High School Teams QB'S as a group the result is they are better than they were then .

Now throw in the protection rules for QB'S and the protection rules for WR'S it's simply not as hard to find a QB as it was 10 years ago . The Myth that we will have a 20 year draught at QB is crazy .

At least 4 of the QB'S who came out last year are played at a good level for a Rookie and could win games with a running game and a Defense. 2013 was a bad year for QB'S maybe only 1 or 2 Franchise possible guys , but in 2012 like 6 Franchise looking QB'S.

The point I am making is the QB and the WR spots are bringing in greater talent at a higher rate so to fear that you can't find a QB is just not true . Regular season wins mean nothing if you can't win the big game . Ben has never carried this Team in the post season ,so a solid game manager can do just as good if you build the rest of the Team around him..

How do you build that Team if Ben takes all the money ? You can't then he needs to shoulder the Team and lead them to victory he has not did that in a long time in the post season, the magic could be gone .

QBs are still hard to find. That's why almost the entire top 10 QBs are guys who are 30 years old and up.

btw those 11 through 15 game managers and mediocre gunslingers get franchise QB money too.

Sorry this QB class is garbage....even the big wig draft guys think it's garbage...

You do remember what it was like between Bradshaw and ben....

Look at teams like the Bills, GREAT D, Average QB= go nowhere

Steelers fans are so spoiled...You act like Elite QBs grow on trees

    Wow... this again...

Ben is a great QB... so are Brady, both Mannings, Brees, Rodgers, etc...

After that, just rank them by whatever criteria applies to QBs.

I'm moving away from this "elite" terminology. There are great QBs in the league... the greatest are determined by their ability to help their team win... however they do it.

    Just rank them.

This is ridiculous I can't even come up with a rebuttal for it.... MOVE ON????? HEH?

And play who at QB? You think you got upset about back to back 8-8 seasons...just wait til he is gone.... You will be begging for him back

    Lost his magic?? HEH??
Did you watch the game....Guy had no time to throw, No Running game and the Ravens Dropped 7 into coverage 91% of the time because of the lack of running game---- 91%!!!!! that is not a typo

Posts like this and the people who make them are exactly the reason Terry Bradshaw hates Pittsburgh and wouldn't come back here for 20 years.

Ben gives the Steelers the best chance to win, who cares if he's elite or not? He will be getting a contract extension this offseason, and he will be paid like a elite QB.

Trading Ben for picks is a mistake. Just look back at some recent picks, say 2008 & 2009, the 1st rounders are no longer on the team. 2013 - people on here want to call him a bust. Then look at some recent top drafted QB's, specifically some former Raiders. There are quite a bit of QB's taken in the top 10 of the draft over the last 10 years who are either out of the league, are back ups, or just aren't good enough to consistently lead a team to victory. When you have a QB like Ben, you keep him. As of now, they do not already have his replacement. So, the Steelers are not in a Young for Montanna or Rogers for Favre situation. Thus, he will get a contract from the Steelers. I agree with an earlier post, the only question is how many years.

Here are the QBs that have been drafted by year ... count each one that is at least as good as Neil O'Donnell was, and see how many years you had to scroll through to get to 15.

    Then count all the misses.

Look I think you make some good arguments, but the above bolded statement is complete BS. Ben DID carry the team in 05 except for the SB - Ben doesn't put that string of great games in Cincy, Indy, Denver - they don't go to the SB. In the 08 run he played well against SD, he made big plays against a rabid Ravens team, and he had a good SB and if his moronic OC wouldn't have tried to constantly run the ball once they were up 20-7 he may not have had to be Superman on the last drive.

Every great team needs more than just a great QB...if Brady, Rodgers, or Manning wins this year it won't be just because of them - all of those teams have strong running games, guys who can rush the passer, NE has a great secondary - so if they win, there will be other pieces that fall in place for them as well.

The biggest argument for moving on beyond Ben in a year or two to me is that the front office, Tomlin, and LeBeau have messed up so bad in re-tooling the defense that it may be impossible for them to truly build a complementary defense. All I know is two years after winning the SB and losing Ray Ray and Ed Reed you don't see the Ravens having problem re-tooling their defense - because they have a front office that knows how to combine free agency (Dumervil) along with drafting (Mosley) to build their team.

The last quality QB drafted by some teams ...

    Browns: Kosar in 1985
    Raiders: Stabler in 1968
    Jets: Pennington in 2000
    Vikings: Culpepper 1999
    Cardinals: Lomax in 1981
    Chiefs: no one ... EVER
    Titans/Oilers: McNair in 1995
    Bills: Kelly in 1983

I think you get my drift.

May not take 20 years to find another franchise QB but you are going to go through some lean years for sure unless you catch lightning in a bottle. And I don't care how HS and college is bringing QB's along now, the NFL is a completely different animal. The failure rate for NFL QB's is much greater than the QB's that become franchise players.

Ben gives us the best chance to win now, ride him into the ground.

Ben flirts with being the best in the NFL to being below average week to week. Still, he gives us the best chance to win. No running game and no line will make any QB look bad...well maybe it won't to Rodgers lol. Nah even him.
