Luckily Tomlin has conditioned us all to handle bad losses. I fully expected to lose tonight. Our coaching staff isn't Belicheat, they can't just adjust to losing a talent like Bell. At least we didn't lose to Tebow tonight.

Reminds me of '76 when we lost to the hated Raiders when our run game was on the shelf.

I think I'd have rather missed the playoffs than to lose to the sorry a$$ ratbirds at home. This loss sucks that bad.

The sun will come up tomorrow, (well maybe not in Western Pa).Do you think the Steeler players/coaches feel as bad as you? They are off to some exotic island, and we are home in 15 degree weather.Think about it.

When the o-line plays well the team does well, unfortunately we still have Foster and Gilbert and every game we faced a tough front the team struggled because they aren't great, good but not great and when you become 1 dimensional against a team like that you see what happens. We also aren't going to win many low scoring games, the offense has to put up 30 to win with the defense we have on the field, I shut the game off after the second offensive series when we kicked a field goal, you could see how it was going to play out.

Not for me. I figured this was an 8-8 team at best. Good run at the end of the season but the Steelers aren't talented enough to make it to the Super Bowl.

I remember listening to a sports talk radio host who said that the fans usually take these losses a lot harder than the players do. To them, it's their job, what they do.

That said, here are the ten losses that have been the toughest for me to swallow in my 40 years as a fan:

    1. 1994 AFC Championship Game. By far the most painful loss I've seen.
    2. 1976 AFC Championship Game.
    3. 1980 loss at Houston. Knocked the Steelers out of playoff contention.
    4. 1990 loss at Houston. Ditto #3. Cody frickin' Carlson!
    5. 2007 AFC Wild Card Game vs Jax.
    6. 2001 AFC Championship Game.
    7. 2004 AFC Championship Game.
    8. 1996 AFC Divisional Playoff at New England
    9. 1982 Playoff vs San Diego.
    10. 2002 Divisional Playoff at Tennessee (the infamous running into the kicker)

*no the two Super Bowl losses weren't tough for me.

This is what irks me! We lose 1 key player we fall apart! We have no decent #2's on this team.
Forget about 'next man up' Our next man up isn't any good! It shouldn't come down to 1 player that has to carry the team!

I'm more "amazed" at how much Bell meant to this offense. I didn't think he did. I do now. Think about whether or not the 1999 Rams could have won without Marshall Faulk. I now think Bell is a Faulk-type player, that irreplaceable, that game-changing.

Agree. I posted about Colbert not picking up another running back after releasing Blount. Even if Tate was available back then, he would of been up to speed by now.

They didn't lose because of the absence of Bell. We have seen this team play this way this season. They just morphed into that team last night. Changes need to be made...

Bell would of made the catch that bounced off of Tate's hands.

Bell would of made the first down on a catch to that Harris got.

Bell would of been on a Linebacker that could not cover him.

Bell would of given AB more room to run and probably wouldn't have been double team.

Bell would have given better blitz pick up then Archer and Harris

Bell would have been a better outlet when then presser was coming.

    Need I say more.

Really? I didn't even dream of the playoffs before the season started. Winning the division title in a rebuilding year is not a common occurrence. Losing to the Ravens sucks, but this team is on the upswing.

I don't think even with Bell that this team wins, as I said before, Gilbert needed help and so did Beachum and Heath Millers wasn't it. There was a running play where Archer got the hand off and Heath got thrown like a rag doll by Suggs and Archer got hammered for a loss, had someone been able to block Suggs, that play was going to go for a big gain as there was no contain but the tackles are just not good. I say it comes down to the o-line because recievers can't get open when 4 guys and put pressure on the QB consistently, we watched this team struggle against Jacksonville with Bell because the LBers took away the quick throws underneath and the front 4 were in the QBs face is less than 3 seconds and for that reason there was always contain on the outside not allowing a RB to sneak out in the flat like Bell has done to other teams. The defense finally figured out how to stop the run but once again the secondary is allowing 3rd and long conversions, that is what kill me, 3rd and 14 and everyone goes into coverage and bam, first down. The defense needs a pass rusher, another DT and at least 2 CBs that are capable of covering for more than 2 seconds without giving a 26 yard cushion.

I am fascinated by how you wrote "would of" 4 times, then went "would have" for the last two and yet did not go back to correct yourself:smiley1:

So painfully obvious we missed Bell. He's Bens safety valve for dump offs and in blitz pick up.
