Hate to burst the hate and fire him bubble but, Tomlin will get an extension. Now i'm sure you all remember that Cowher got an extension off of a losing season right? Tomlin has not had one of those...

I say that every time the Fire Tomlin crowd comes out. He'll get an extension, might as well make your peace with that now.

I would sign Tomlin to an extension along with the rest of the staff. The key for me is pay Munchak as much as he wants. Need to keep him in the Steel City as long as possible. While I am frustrated at times with the play-calling, questionable time management from time to time we could be in a lot worse scenarios. Take a look around at who and what is currently available. No current guys I would want coaching the Steelers as a head coach. Now as a coordinator give me Rex Ryan any day of the week, but he has no interest in going backwards.

Last time they signed him to a new contract when he was going into the last year. He has 2 years left through 2016, so I would not expect a conversation for another year.

I don't think it was as much of a one year rental as it was tied to the last year of his contract with Tennesse. He was owed $3MM and Tennesse had to pay him what ever we did not. Unless he has a better option elsewhere, I would expect the Steelers to extend him this off season.

There are many reasons why the Steelers are the franchise they are and the Browns, Raiders, Jets, etc are the franchise they are. Starts with who they hire as a head coach, like him or not, Tomlin has an outstanding win-loss record. Any other coach close to him has no concerns for getting the ax anytime soon (except for Jim Hairball). Next, the Steelers take good coaches and give them an extension before the absence of an extension becomes a distraction. With no such distraction, the coach can focus on winning.

I know the Falcons are in a two-year funk, but did the outcome of 1 game really determine the fate of their coach? If it did, then that is just stupid. Mike Smith brought a consecutive winning seasons to Atlanta for the first time in their history. They didn't even do it when they went to the Superbowl! They still have a franchise QB, so they have something to build around. Go out, fix the D, and see if you can turn this thing around. Remember how many coaches they had in just a few years before Smith brought some stability.

The Jets, Rex is not blameless. But their problem was their GM. Rex is the best coach the Jets have had since their Superbowl win. He took them to 2 championship games with a terrible QB. Get a GM that gets along with the HC and see if you can turn things around.

The Raiders - they just stink.

The Browns - How many coaches have they had in the last 5 years? Their last coach was one and done. And now they need to find a QB, again! The best thing they did was not fire their HC this week. Just wait a few weeks, till all the good candidates are gone. Then they will fire him.

As a Steeler fan, I look at these other organizations and just shake my head. Go out, get yourself a good coach, and give him at least 5 years to build a team and see what he can do with it. Tomlin rode the wave he was dealt initially, but the salaries to do so caught up with them. Now, Tomlin is starting to ride a new wave. The team is young, but still has its Franchise QB. Lock up Tomlin, so there be no doubt that you are committed to winning.

When they go into the 2015 season, he'll only have one year left on his contract. They don't wait until they are actually into the very last year of the contract. At least that's how I think its been done.

    Well said.

The Steelers need to keep the stability extend Tomlin and Ben, I would say Ben probably has 4-5 more prime years left in his career to try and win a Super Bowl. To all the fans that post fire Tomlin threads after every loss , it sucks for you because he's not going anywhere for a long time.

Yeah I'm going to say this team is his until he walks away from it. If he wins another ring he will cement that.

They'd be crazy not to extend Tomlin. The guy's worst stretch was two years at 8-8. And he ended that with a division championship. He's never had a losing season and the team he's building is beginning to bear fruit. I hope he's here for twenty years. That's the type of continuity that makes 2-14 seasons an impossibility around here.

I love Munch, but do you really think he will get any head coach offers? I mean he's great as an Oline coach, but he didn't have a lot of success as a head coach did he?

No worries, Rooneys are a lot more grounded then fans are.

Apparently, he wasn't fired for bad coaching, he was let go because he refused to fire his staff.

I don't think he'd get an offer this soon though but who knows.

He's had a franchise QB his entire tenure ... and wtf does that division championship mean now? We're the 2nd AFC North team eliminated from Super Bowl contention, right behind the stinking Browns.

Mike Tomlin is a god awful coach. Absolutely clueless, with consistently under performing teams.

He prob will, .. tho he shoudnt, no way we should extend his contract for average coaching, make him earn it, instead of just giving it to him..

As I said earlier, I'm not a fan of his and he showed it tonight! We sucked in all phases of the game: penalties, running the ball, decision making, and worst of all we lost to the freaking Ravens by a bunch! Why can't we be ready for a bunch of thugs; ever! Let's not blame the officials; yeah they sucked big time, we had no answer for anything!! Forsett ate us up, Flacco had time to pass, and Mitchell was pathetic as usual! Heath was awful tonight, why?? Tomlin started Troy; why? The defense was just starting to play as a unit!! Clean house; bye to Troy, Ike, Harrison, Thomas, Mitchell, and Keisel!! Oh yeah, and good bye to Lebeau also!

Tomlin is great for the steelers. He needs to stay as long as we can keep him. But I will be looking at our other staff members. Defensive Coordinator is one. Our scouting department is another.
