I agree with this point. And I think we're getting Tate as an insurance "in case" the run game suddenly works against Baltimore. I don't for a second believe that Tomlin and Co. are expecting Tate to walk in on day 4 and pass protect our franchise QB in a playoff game. WJ is an adequate (read: not Bell level) receiver, and a big body that can block, so I think he'll be our primary 3rd down back.

I also think Johnson is the best option at pass protection. I was screaming for him when Bell went down and Archer got ran right by and Ben threw a pick. I would even be happy if Bell played and his primary objective was more to pass protect that anything else. I'm just extremely scared that he's gonna get hurt.

I agree with the suggestion that Will Johnson will be our primary 3rd down back. I think Tate is being brought in to provide a running threat on some 1st and 2nd down plays if Harris doesn't seem to be able to get it done, and to be the 3rd down protector in case Johnson gets injured during the game. I do think Tate will see some meaningful snaps, but probably not on 3rd and long unless Will gets dinged up. Of course if Harris lights it up, Tate may end up warming yet another bench for much of the game.

Dri being a pleasant surprise would be.... well, a pleasant surprise. If he does anything in pass protection, it would be a gargantuan surprise. It wouldn't surprise me too much to see him take a bubble screen or shovel pass to the house though.

According to Aditi Kinkhabwala, Bell said he didn't try running today.

I should add that he didn't practice today. Didn't talk to reporters either.

Well, let's hope so. He's sure been an unpleasant surprise so far! :(

But I will say that he looked more comfortable catching passes coming out of the backfield last week. Maybe there is hope yet. :)

Was going to post but after reading through I've forgotten.

I do have a feeling I should see a Doctor for the New Year though...

Oh well. Another Steeler RB named Harris used to come up pretty big in playoff games. He made this catch once...

I like the idea of shutting him down for a week anyway. We will need him in Denver next week.

Going to have to make the SB if we want to see Bell on the field again this year.

Plan for the worst, hope for the best :smiley1:

2-4 week recovery time but 2 is pretty optimistic considering what is required of him to do on a football field.
