I think that Troy has made up his mind already and I think he calls it a career after the end of the season. I seem to remember hearing during one of the recent broadcasts that his wife wants him to be done although I could be confusing who they talking about. Now given that it seems sort of a pointless discussion but I would still like to throw it out there. Could Troy change the way he plays the game and extend his career possibly four years or more? THey is president for it, after shredding his knee during the 95 season Woodson changed his game and became a very good safety. Now in his case I think he tried hanging on too long and was selling his self to the highest bidder trying to get a ring.

So can Troy not be Troy and settle in an play the safety position as it is traditional played? Would it extend his career. Young guys on the roster haven't seen the field yet so it is not known what they bring so Troy retiring can be looked at as good and as bad as well. I think his football IQ alone would make him a top ten safety even with being a step slower and not being able to make the splash plays.

Troy's wife has apparently said she wants him to hang it up. I'm not sure if he will or not. At the first of the year I really thought he would but now I don't know. I personally think he is a shell of his former self BUT that could be due to not having dependable help behind him. When the d was much better it freed Troy up to be much more of a hybrid it seemed like. But now that we don't have as many solid guys around him he's much more limited. He has missed a ton of tackles this year too though. It wouldn't surprise me if he quit. He has said that he didn't want football to "define" him and all that.

Great article today about Troy in the Pgh Post Gazette. From that article seems to me he will hang it up. I'd link here but not good at it.

It would be great for him to go a with a bang, it's possible to be his last game at Hienz field tonight.

No. Troy's strong suit has never been coverage and his diminished speed has only exacerbated that.

I think he could change his style....but don't think he will or would want to.That said, I hope he summons vintage 43 for 5 games and goes out giving Steeler Nation one hell of a show.

That is why I suggested changing his game Strummer. He does have ability for coverage but often times is out of position and would rely on speed to get back or try to get back. A traditional safety would stay out in coverage and spend less time guessing and being out of position.

I think Troy could change his game and do well. I think what we have seen, through the games where he hasn't been "in the play", is because of the younger players and helping them develop.

He has a great players mind, and that has only become better with his age. I would still rather see an older slower Troy (who is saavy about the game) than a young fast guy blowing past possible tackles.

I really (like most of yinz) just wish he would do more wrap up style tackling.

    Nice find Thorn.

I want both Troy and Ike out of here, free up cap space for younger better players and lets move on, the young guys played a great game last night while these two stood on the sideline eating sun flower seeds, good riddance....
