Would you bring him back next season? If he gets released by the Raiders, which is likely to happen. He's on IR, I would for the veterans minimum. Worilds and Harrison are likely gone after this season, they could use the depth.

We'll probably still be paying him from his last contract. Is there such a thing as an inverted contract? He signs with us, he has to pay us $2 million or something. Fair's fair.

That's silly. But as a player, for the league minimum, I would take him back - assuming he is in shape and healthy at the start of the season. We'll be super thin at the position, and probably draft someone, but he'd be a good bridge, even if he lands on IR after week 8.

I thought this was a joke at first. Can't believe I'm reading this.

No. The guy is fat and lazy. He never shows up to camp in shape. He's injury prone and he's just not very good. Why do we keep bringing back these washed up players? How are we ever supposed to move on from these players that have caused our defence to be where it is today?

I would take him for league minium but nothing more. He could help Jarvis and the rookies we draft at the position.

That would be the ultimate troll move on his part: Paying Woodley to come back ON TOP of what we're paying him on his old contract.

If released from the Raiders, I say yes. Now, I wouldn't pay him much, he'll make more than the minimum though. Bring him in to camp, he knows the D, if he isn't fit, cut or trade. But I definitely think he is worth a shot for the right price.

Well I'll skip the Woodley stuff even though I disagree with a lot of it.

Max Starks, William Gay, and James Harrison, off the top of my head, are three guys that were "washed up" former Steelers that came back and really bailed us out. Of course it's not ideal to have any of those guys as your starter (in Harrison's case, due to age, for the others, due to talent), but the options were not them vs. some young star. It was them vs. the guys we already had (Jon Scott, Curtis Brown, an untested Arthur Moats and no one after him).

Larry Foote also helped, in a reserve role. Bryant McFadden didn't play great in his second stint and was benched his second year back, but he was brought in to play over Gay, who was completely atrocious the year before. McFadden was a big step up, and we made it to the Super Bowl that year.

It'd be great if we could replace our stinky players with newer, shinier, younger, better players. CB is a position where I don't think they have much of an excuse. They are either whiffing in the draft or just not drafting. CB is the new OL, back before we started investing in that.

But that isn't always possible. If you're talking about cheap money, then I think Pittsburgh's track record of bringing back former players is an argument for bringing back Woodley, not against it.

Personally, I'm not nuts about the idea. If he's still available when the season starts, and in shape, I'd probably see what we had during training camp, and give him a call if I felt I needed the depth. That's the same approach I had with Harrison this year. And of course, he'd have to pass a physical.

Oh! Brett Keisel! Duh. We got better the minute he hit the field and Cam Thomas hit the bench.

I agree also. I know there HAVE been guys that have played good after coming back but I don't think he'd be one.

Yeah, but the 8 million is a sunk cost, and does not play into the equation. I wouldn't make any move to reacquire Woodley until after the draft at the absolute earliest. Ideally, he would be out there for us to consider during or after camp. I hope we don't have to go that route, but it could be preferable to having JJ and Moats as our only OLBs with NFL experience.

If there is any interest in Woodley at all, obviously they would need to give him a physical, but if there is any interest in Woodley at all, they won't be able to wait. Otherwise, Arizona will sign him.

that's just throwing good money after bad. with his time off we still have jj and moats and still have to wait to give zumwalt and hojo nfl experience. plus lose more money on a guy that we decided to eat a lot of money on. hojo gains experience every week he practices in an NFL setting. zumwalt is gaining NFL and steeler knowledge. Woodley is gaining weight and sucking up our money. ahhh NO.:smiley1::cool:
