OK I noticed on one play and not goal line that Big Mac, Thomas, and the shade tree were all out there together. While this won't produce pressure it does free the lbers. My question is does anyone know how many snaps they played in that formation

I don't know the answer, but I believe historically the Steelers' goal line package has always been 2 NTs and 2 DEs, followed by I think 5 LBs and 2 DBs. So I know Cam Thomas works as a nose tackle, but in this context he was probably just playing DE like he often does.

I remember seeing this too...but do not remember all the details around it. It could be a very simple explanation...they were giving Heyward and Tuitt a rest. Seeing how they had no other DEs active...and McLendon can play DE also...they decided to bump him out and bring in the big guy for NT. Obviously yes there could be other reasons, they saw something and they wanted a true heavy package in....they wanted to try something new...who knows. But I'm willing to bet it was just ti give them a quick rest or something like that.

I remember seeing it once. The Bengals were showing something different IIRC. I'll see if I can get a screen capture.

Got it. 3rd quarter- 2nd and 9. Direct snap to Sanu. McLendon lines up shading the tackle.

The previous play, 1st and 10. McLendon lines up at 2 tech. Not typical personnel usage.

Anyone watch the cards game where the 6'8" DT said he lines up a yard deep to give him the space he needs maybe McCullers should try that
