    bens extension.
    Timmons big contract.
    mclendon's injuries.
    ike.
    troy.

I don't want to get rid of any of them, BUT...........

could we upgrade the team as a whole if we brought in a step below Timmons for the money?

cut our losses at NT for a guy that could stay on the field more? ( no I don't mean a cam Thomas type)

get a qb as more of a game manager with some future upside, but never going to be an elite guy?

nobody wants to see any of these guys go anywhere, but would we be better off down the road, team wise, by down grading to upgrade certain spots for the money savings? would be be better off taking some of the money savings and putting it at a few other positions to upgrade us as a more complete unit over stars in certain positions? don't get all huffy that I want them all gone, just some things to discuss. thought's?

I, for one, would be the first one to help pack Ike's bags.

As I said in another thread , I would also consider moving Wheaton and Archer . I don't think Wheaton is going to be that true #2 so I would take a stab at another position .

I am not sure about Archer he has been open , but Ben wont throw to him , we also wont use him enough to get any value out of him. So I guess if we are going to keep him then use him .If not trade him and get a pick and take another stab at another position...

Ben isn't going anywhere, he still gives you the best chance to win. McClendon can't be counted on since he became a starter he keeps getting injured. As for Ike, Troy thanks for the memories I don't think they get rid of Timmons.

    1. Ben's contract. I see it that we have two choices. A. Get a Long term deal done, let him retire a Steeler. I think another 5 year deal would be sufficent, Ben has played well at times and not well at times. But, we can't win without the guy, and we have nobody else as of right now waiting in the wings as a QB of the future. Ben needed a cap friendly deal, because down the the road the best two weapons A. Brown will need renewed and Bell is going to want his pay day. So, hopefully winning out weighs him wanting to break the bank. B.) You let him play his final year out of his deal, and you can always franchise tag him when his contract is up.

    2. Lawerence Timmons is still one of the better players on defesnse. I just wish he could move back to mack instead of the buck insinde MLB because he plays better there. The development of Shazier will determine a lot on that.

3.McLendon is injury prone. It will be McCullers there for the future or they will draft someone as well. Cut McLendon.

4.Cut Troy and Ike, it's been fun, but time to move on, and I'm a huge Troy fan.

This. And Timmons is solid. McClendon has only been hurt this year I believe. That doesn't mean we couldn't use an upgrade because I think McCleadon would excel at end. Ike, Taylor, Harrison and Keisel won't be back next year or they shouldn't.

I guess worilds should be included in the conversation.

can we upgrade by signing ben to more money and keeping Timmons with his salary? (Timmons and bens play isn't the issue. neither would be easily replaced.)

I guess what I'm asking is , will we be better off, even if ike and troy go, but we then just turn around and give more money to ben or have to replace who we get rid of with lesser players. have we really freed anything up?

Harrison, keisel, troy and ike, will not free up a ton of money for anything besides a replacement for them and some money to extend ben. the replacements for these guys may or may not be as good as they are either. mid level free agents really haven't made huge strides for us, so just turning dollars over for the same or worse is what I'm getting at by asking this stuff.

could we be better off without Timmons but 2 higher level FA than what we have added. no neither may be at LT's level, but slightly increasing two spots for one. maybe more. same with ben. no probably not as good but 3 or 4 players less than ben but slightly better than what we have behind them.

I guess a lower quality then those two but a higher quality of quantity overall. does that make sense?:cool:

Your not getting rid of Timmons. He is top five tackler in the NFL

Ben is here for life. I am ok with that actually unlike some others

Troy and Ike are done. They can go

I guess lower quality spread out among different positions then one or two positions with good or above average quality. :hmmm:

But Ben is here for the long haul. It's hard to win in this league without a quarterback. And even game managers doesn't come along that often.

Sign Ben, let Troy Ike McClendon walk. Sign Worilds if it is a reasonable contract. He is definitely not worth 9 mil a year in my opinion. Draft pretty much entirely defense with the beginning of our picks in the defensive backfield. Sign a reasonably FA or two to help with depth at LB, DL, and OL.

The Steelers need to get younger and find out what they have. The only benefit of Keisel being injured is that it forces us to play Tuitt etc. Glad to see Jones back before the end of the season to see what we may or may not have at OLB.

Love all the guys that put on the Steeler uniform and especially the long term guys like Troy Harrison Keisel Ike but eventually you can't defeat old man time. And we are facing that right now.
