Until they fix the crappy defense, remember that thread earlier this season some fans thought this team had sufficient talent on defense. I said no back then and it's even worse now, they have no playmakers on defense. A weak pass rush and a very bad secondary, that's why you lose to losing teams like the Jets, Bucs. Colbert has screwed this team on the defensive side bad draft picks and bad free agent signings. How to fix this mess first LeBeau and his outdated scheme needs to retire, his defense is built to not give up the big play but the Steelers continue to give up big plays. Also Carnell Lake needs to be let go the players in the secondary aren't developing, they have probably the worst secondary in the NFL. The only hope is some of the young players become dominant like Tuitt, Shazier, Jarvis, Shamarko, I wouldn't bet on it though.

Don't forget to add piss poor tackling.

Offensively this team can play with anybody but they need to fine tune it.

    Defensively they are in shambles.

I saw them play 2 games agains contenders and obliterate them, so I disagree, get in and anything can happen.

I think those 2 games were a fluke lol. If we were to play Colts again in the playoffs we would get smashed.

Our defense was terribad against the Colts. We only defeated them because we were aggressive on offenses rom the very beginning of the game and out scored them. We didn't try to establish the run or dink and dunk. We threw down the field.

Also helped that Luck fell on his ass for a safety...as they we're about to drive 95 yards to tie the game.

I agree. I feel the steelers would be a dangerous playoff team and I really mean that.

The problem is they seem to stumble to many times throughout the season to make it there anymore.

Yeah right, if this sorry defense had to play New England or Denver in the playoffs they would get smoked by 3 tds.

We were also aggressive on defense. Blitz after blitz after blitz. I don't understand the conservative play that followed. If we're a gunslinging team led by a gunslinger QB, then play like that. Don't try and be a masterfully dominant team that controls the game methodically when that really, really isn't what gets us wins these days.

I think we should look at the coach, the head coach. MT , I feel , he never has is guys ready to play mentally or physically . When he was hired as the Head Coach, I thought he would bring an energy to this team that we so desperately needed in the late Cowher years. Although, he has taken us to two SB's....and won one of them, I still feel like he is out coached 60 percent of the games. As for the physical part of it, over the past few years we have become SOFTER.. SOFTER...and sssssSOFTERRR..to the point we are diving and catching people when tackling, its terrible. I was hoping for an aggressive ...fast ...hard hitting D that was ready to destroy the opposite team. As much as I hate to say it, a Ravens style D an I think we all can agree their scheme is attacking....but there players suck. I from the Cowher era, I only know one style of play. This stuff that MT puts on the field, is not Steelers Football. Its trash...hands down...

With just about anyone else. Funny thing about football though, upsets happen, this year has been littered with upsets, Denver just lost to the Rams.

Im not bashing Coach. He's an ok coach...and also, a Head Coach can only be as good as his assistants are. You know, I've been sayn this for years, coach DL has to go. His zone scheme is not working any more. I know, he has had some awesome Defenses in his time with us. The team and fans love him like a GP...but his time is over. We have never been able to beat the great QBs with it.....Brady...Rogers...Manning...they eat the D for lunch when we play them. Its predictable...there's no surprise for the opposing QBs...and no1 fears us . Its been long over due for a change. As for TH, I don't think he's the right fit for us. We don't attack enough or even make the other teams run sideline to sideline in some games. I don't understand TH's play calling in games...I think I saw like one screen in the game last wek, and I think it was to Heath. Bell is going to be the next AP or better. Brown is a monster...look at Green Bay......Their O is awesome, if we could find an OC like that...unstoppable. They play with such a nice flow, rarely do you see them missing a beat. So yeah, I guess I'm say'n TH stinks as an OC.

No one would afford us that excuse had we lost to the Rams. Rams are an inferior team to Denver, they should have won.

All teams have a bad day and end up dropping a game they should win. Steelers problem is it happens 3-5 times a season.

I find this whole thread hilarious since steelersrule6 was beating the drum for replacing most of the defense with younger faster guys and said he was willing to live with the growing pains of these young and inexperienced players, yet almost from week one he has been griping non stop about how bad they are, how thye can't stop the run, can't pressure the QB, can't cover anyone. I'm sorry I thought getting the young guys in there was what you wanted? I thought you could live with the growing pains. I seem to remember several times I and others said younger and faster doesn't always mean better it just means younger and faster at making mistakes. Be careful what you wish for

IF.. they can get to the playoffs, I think they have a real shot. There won't be any to play down to and they will be the underdogs... So no where to go but up!

The biggest problem I see with the defense is Cam Thomas - he truly is terrible. HE is the main reason teams can run right through out D-line. He gets moved right out of the way and a pulling lineman gets to the LB. This is why our safeties have to play up vice out in center field. This is why we bite hard on play action. Yes the secondary is weak, but they would be much better if they could play without fear of getting gashed by the run. Also Worlids is not good at all at setting the edge - he is constant too far up-field allowing a cut right behind him.

There are a lot of injuries too - Shazier, JJ, McClendon were all starters.

I agree. I think there was a thread about it a while ago, but Cam Thomas and Mike Mitchell may go down as two of the worst FA signings ever.
