I'm not saying Tomlin is the greatest but he most certainly is NOT the worst either. BTW, how many SBs has the great Andy Reid won?

The big debate is whether or not this team is any good. One could argue that Tomlin getting to 8-8 at all is a miracle with this bunch--and it would be a valid point. The other side (and how I see it) is that this team indeed has talent and is underachieving and has been for a few seasons.

What about Heyward? My problem with the way we've drafted on defense lately is that is seems we always take 4-3 guys and think they can just magically play 3-4. I honestly have wondered if Tomlin doesn't just keep thinking that DL is gonna go and he will then be able to institute the system he prefers. Maybe that is why we keep taking these guys that aren't really fit for our system?

It wasn't just AJ. I just looked it up and the Chargers are on their 13th head coach since the merger. A new coach every 3.38 years and they STILL haven't won anything. Is that the kind of change you guys are looking for?

Oh I was just talking about when they were actually contenders he still couldn't leave well enough alone and got rid of Marty when the Chargers had just had a great year. He really punished Marty for his past faults in the playoffs and was like "well since Marty has lost in the playoffs before and now he lost this year he is gonna lose EVERY year" and let him go. Apparently it was a huge power struggle.

It's hard to find 3-4 guys when 10 teams drafting in front of us is now playing the3-4 also.... but i dont have an anser why we wont switch to the 4-3, I really expect DL to retire this year. I wld rather see him retire than have him pass away in the middle/ start of nxt season,.......( God forbid that happens)

Well I know that Tomlin has said that he's gonna let DL do what he does "because he's Dick Lebeau" but if Tomlin truly believes that the team would do better playing a 4-3 he could institute it. He is DL's boss and if he tells him to change things up he has to do it.

AJ never liked Marty so, in a power struggle, he got rid of him after a 14-2 season! The fan(s) turned on Beatherd after a few years too.

We won't switch because DL prefers a 3-4 is the real reason I think. I honestly think that IF Butler gets the job after DL that Tomlin will only give it to him under the condition that he installs a 4-3. I could be wrong but I think our days of 3-4 are numbered. I hope not because I like a 3-4 better but if switching schemes is what is gonna help us get better and win then I will deal with it.

Why does it have to be one or the other? Why is it that if we get rid of Tomlin that it means we want a new coach every other year? Maybe we just realize that Tomlin isn't working and things are only going to continue to get worse not better. That doesn't mean we want a new coach every other year like the Raiders do. It's not like Tomlin has only had a few years. He's had plenty of time to prove himself and what I think he's shown is he's a status quo kind of guy and isn't going to build a winning team. He'll maintain a good team, but now that ship has sailed and it's time to build a new team, and he simply can't do it.

A.J. had a reputation as being able to evaluate talent and I think ownership just didn't feel comfortable in getting rid of him but if we ever hired A.J. Smith I would probably hook a vacuum hose to each of the dual exhausts of my MINI. LOL.

As 12to88 said, Tomlin has been here 8 years, so it's not like we're giving up on him in just a year or 2. I think what we need is someone with an approach to the game and build your team around that. If you're a defensive guy, build a defense. If you're a passing or running guy, build off of that.

With Tomlin, I have no idea what kind of team we are. Some days we're a passing team, others we're a running. He's even said they change game plans based on their opponent. Maybe that explains our inconsistency? I think that's why we have guys like Cowher and Ward saying we're a finesse team. We don't impose our will on anyone like we did in the past. Instead, we react to the flow of a game, instead of creating it.

I don't know who's out there, but it's not Tomlin. He's out there, so let's give it a shot, as Tomlin has run his course.

I think in his earlier years that he wasn't but I think now that he probably is. I've always figured the Rooney's felt comfortable in giving him the job since DL was there to sorta be a good stabilizing force and help Tomlin just focus on how to handle things. I could be wrong but I've just sorta figured that.

Maybe, maybe not. Tomlin apparently didn't have the authority to keep BA and who knows if he's the one that hired Haley. Maybe he has no authority to fire DL and he knows it. Perhaps DL's contract pretty much gives him full authority over the D, kind of like a coach has full authority on the starting lineup.

The part about not firing DL because he's DL is such a flawed way of thinking though. That's the same reason we still have Troy running around hurting us every week. The only reason we haven't gotten rid of Troy yet is because of who he is, not what he's doing. You don't keep a guy just because of what his name is. You keep him if he helps win games. Troy doesn't and I'm not convinced DL does either. Although I wonder what DL would be like under a new coach

When a teams head coach wears sunglasses on a cloudy day something in the locker room is happening. Tomlin is the problem right now....

I think until DL has better personnel to work with we are seeing what it would be like regardless. I mean we have the worst lb corp and secondary that we've had in literally over a decade. We just can not get to the qb. I'm sure DL is doing all he can with what he has to work with. Also since Troy has lost his step we can't be nearly as versatile a defense as we used to be. Also the FO isn't giving DL any help through Free Agency either. I mean we've looked HORRIBLE in free agency. I know we are broke but still.

The problem isn't the offense with this team. The defense sucks and coaching mediocre at best. Right now looks like another 8 and 8 year maybe 9 wins. They don't beat the teams they should. I've been a steeler fan 40 years. This is a flashback 80 s if I've ever scene one. All the Hof players were basically gone. We won some and lost others. I don't want to be a downer, but I don't think we are going anywhere this year, too many blown oportunities. Next couple years we need good secondary players, I don't care if through free agency or draft. I also believe Ben has maybe one or two good years left. We will need a good quarterback over this time frame also. All in all another disappointing year.
