I'm not trying to go into deep stuff here but just curious about what really is the driving force when they lose for you.
I am NOT questioning anyone's passion for our team.. Just that some of us have different reasons for winning.

Pride, financial (betting), fantasy team rankings or what else?

For me; I'm not a gambler so it's not that. I have season seats and have no trouble getting rid of tickets at the beginning of the year but if they lose I almost have to give the December games away (if I don't go) so in that- it's financial. To me it's also a pride thing. I am proud to be a Steelers fan and don't think any other team (players or management) is someone I could get behind.

I'm proud that my daughter wants to one day take possession of my seats.
My employee's say that Monday's are better after a win, so for them I must be happier.

Pride. Especially when losing to bad teams and the pats.

Great question. Maybe pride, like Rambro said but I really don't know why losses get me down, I have no logical reason why something I have no hand in ruins my night when they lose. Guess that is why fan is short for fanatics.

I remember in 2004 when we lost to the Pats in the AFCCG. I remember feeling so dejected and miserable, but above all - stupid. Because, I was thinking, this should all mean nothing to me - some guys playing a game hundreds and hundreds of miles away. And yet, that loss felt like someone had punched me in the gut.

for me it means I wont watch anymore football or espn cause I cant stand seeing highlights or the score. I am miserable for the rest of the day or if on a Monday night I am so mad I cant sleep.
I don't bet much but have a bunch of titan fans as buddys so we will bet a dinner or something. I just hate losing

There was a time when a Steeler loss devastated me.You couldn,t even talk to me until Wednesday. Now I see players hugging, laughing, and damn near kissing the opposing team after the game. I finally realized that the outcome of games effects fans more than the players. I still get upset over a loss but now I get over it after about 2 hours. The worse loss ever for me was the 1994 AFCCG against the Chargers.

Yeah, this is about it for me, too.

I'm not as involved as I have been in the past but losses still bother me, especially to the teams we're "supposed" to beat, and the ravens. Losing to good teams isn't terrible, but still stings.

I'd say just plain competitiveness. Losing sucks and I hate it and get mad when they do. I don't bet, so it's not financial. There is a little pride aspect, as you feel a little better on Monday going into the office, but it's more just wanting to win, because winning is fun!

I don't understand the question. I'm a Steelers fan. I expect to win. When we don't, I feel cheated.

Especially when we play like absolute garbage.

This is how I get most of the time too, when they lose I pretty much avoid football for the week. I become unwilling to watch NFL Replay on the NFL Network. I avoid ESPN. Meanwhile when they win - I enjoy other football as well. So for example, beating Indy made me want to see the Broncos/Patriots game the following week where as if they would have lost I may have avoided it altogether.

Yeah pride. And the hatred of losing.

Plus... every other team in the league (especially random NFC team fans who shouldn't care) seems to key on a Steelers loss. Then, all that hate reminds me we're at the top! :herewego:

I shoot pistols every Tuesday. The guy who runs the range is a big time Steeler fan too. If the game is not on TV here we go to the Carolina Ale House to watch it. Tuesday after a loss he keeps his eye on me while I shoot. He doesn't know what he is looking for but says he'll know when he sees it

Dude.... Lived in Ohio during this time, I was at my father in laws house helping him move. He was a huge Browns fan. He went to get something to eat with about 10 minutes left in the game. He got back when it was over and asked me if the Steelers won. I told him they blew it. He just shook his head and patted me on the back. Hard times.

Before I started reading this thread I thought "What was the most devastating loss to me as a 42 year STEELER fan and how did I feel?" I came up with the 94 AFCCG. That tore my heart out!! Didnt get over that for weeks!! The losses to the Cowboys and Packers in SBs didnt hurt as much.

As for today Im over it in about 15 20 minutes. I love when we win and hate when we lose. At the end of the day it really is just a game.

I'm extreeeemely competitive by nature and I HATE losing. So for me it is almost like I MYSELF have lost and I can't stand that feeling. There are also times where I feel "cheated" almost when we lose. The loss that sorta "haunts" me to this day is probably either the Tebow loss but really the O'Donnell Super Bowl loss. I despise the cowboys with everything in my body and I HATE the fact that we lost to them. That was the year in my life where I actually became a Steelers fan and I reeeeally wanted to win that game. I can still see Cowher hugging the kids after the game and the other NFL Films footage of Rod Woodson kneeling on the sidelines saying simply "two interceptions". The 09 loss to cleveland where BA drew up the stupidest gameplan of all time still miffs me as well. I can also think of the Steelers WIN that still makes me mad today. The 05 colts game when the refs FLAT OUT tried to steal that game from us. I STILL get mad that they reversed Troy's pick and Ben's shoestring tackle should have NEVER happened. SO MUCH unnecessary stress to the fans in that game. I know Troy got credit for the pick the next day but it still gets me hot just thinking about it.

Personnally I get pretty bent out of shape over stupid losses and it probably doesn't do my health any good. Those are the losses where the Steelers just downright aren't prepared or don't take an opponent as serious as they should.

Losses where they play hard but the other team beat them fair and square I don't frown on so much.

Either way losses stink and it would be interesting to know how many man hours are lost on Mondays by Steelers fans after losses. I know my give a care guage falls to the left a bit.:innocent:

    Great Topic, Dino...

Used to be, the crap I would hear from other fans, esp, livin just below Cleveland..

Now, that I don`t talk so much when we win, I hear less when we lose...

    Funny how that works...

In my younger days, I lived and died by how the Steelers did.

I`m still known to throw a temper tatntrum, or two, when we completeley suck, and give away games we shouldn`t lose...

When Green Bay beat us in the Superbowl, I broke my wooden coffee table, to pieces, on my front room floor, and fed it to my fireplace... Because Pittsburgh, just does NOT lose Superbowls!!!

(Nevermind that crap against the Cowgirls, when O`Donnell gave the game away. I was much younger then, and plead the 5th, on my reaction)...

After that, I`ve pretty much had my "anger management" issues in check, until the game we lost to the Clowns, when we turned the ball over EIGHT friekin times!!!

After the 6th, with all our rb`s on the bench, I calmly walked outside, and punched a hole thru my Girlfriend`s shed door...

After fixing that, and getting my ass chewed out for being childish, I`ve calmed down quite a bit...

I`ve kind of come to accept that this team, just doesn`t play with the same kind of pride that I grew up expecting the STEELERS to play with..

And it`s been pointed out to me, that, I`m not on the team, It doesn`t affect my livliehood, etc...

It still bothers me anytime we lose, no matter, who the opponent is, just because of pride in the team I have ALWAYS
    rooted for, and ALWAYS will...

But, I just can`t have the same kind of love, for players who seem to care more about the almighty dollar, than the team they are playing on, and for a team who continually, plays like crap, against the supposedley "weak" teams in the league.

I will ALWAYS take pride in being a fan of the PITTSBURGH STEELERS, and never rooting for another team...

I just wish they would show the same pride, when they play the weaker teams in the league!
And give me some reason to have pride, and faith, other than just blind faith...

Confidence, that we would take care of business, and handle the few chumps that are in the league, would make me more proud of being a Steeler fan, than I already am!!:herewego!:
    :beard::butcher::mad::herewego:
HERE WE GO STEELERS... HERE WE GO!!!!

I love this question. If nothing else it causes me to self-reflect (yes I actually can be a deep person). I am a very passionate person and have a terrible tendency to commit deeply to things. Yes, I realize I have no hand in their winning or losing but I, emotionally, feel invested in the outcome. To that end, I probably hurt deeper than I should when we lose but, hey, I also enjoy the win more than I should. This is the rollercoaster ride that I call "me"! lol

That Charger game cuts like a knife with me too,
I had already made cruise reservations and was
trying to secure SB tickets. Needless to say I canceled my plans for a SB/cruise ship vacation.
