I saw this earlier today, first his dopey leap and now feels the need to shoot his mouth off.

His level of play on the field is disappointing enough without this stuff.

In the end, probably doesn't matter much, just getting sick of this guy.

BF, I find you maddeningly inconsistent on your views on speaking to the media and it always makes me smile. You fully support Ben in whatever he wants to say to the media be it passive aggressive about Haley or just about the team. You love(maybe a bit strong a word) Tomlin and his avoiding questions in the press room by going all Miyagi on them and yet when someone like Mitchell talks and at this point it is no different than Clark did when he was here or Mr. Swaggin himself, becuase his play on the field has been disappointing you want him to not talk. They could make one of those starbursts commercial about you, a delightful contradiction.

The real story from that story to me is the opening stat. "Coming out of Sunday's disastrous loss to the Jets, MIKE TOMLIN'S Steelers have suffered MORE ROAD LOSSES AGAINST TEAMS WITH 5 OR FEWER WINS than ANY TEAM IN THE LEAGUE SINCE 2007". SOMEHOW that will be Todd Haley's fault. LOL. That really is a troubling stat though. I was telling someone the other day that we don't play well on the road. I guess that just reinforces it. Mitchell can say what he wants but until he really makes even just a single play his words are gonna be pretty hollow. Although, I don't really consider what he said to be that incendiary at all. Honestly, if not for what happened with him Sunday this probably wouldn't even be an article. If Joey Porter said this in his day he would probably be celebrated for it. I actually liked it when he called people out though. Especially the colts. He backed it up though. I hope Mitchell does the same. Tomlin has said Mitchell is "emotional" so I guess we can expect more of this type of stuff? I bet what happened was he asked Tomlin if it was ok to say this and he just nodded and then he said it and now Tomlin will say he didn't hear him and just nodded. LOL. I couldn't help myself.

Thats just your perception, Thorn. You're the one that feels Ben says passive aggressive things, not me.

Have no idea what your point about Tomlin has to do with any of this. Because Tomlin doesn't answer the questions the way you like, is a you problem. But if faced with incendiary comments or saying nothing at all, I'll choose nothing at all. And before you bring up Ben, Ben has never said anything that I felt was bad, IMO.

And as I said in my last sentence of my first post, I'm just getting sick of this guy. It probably won't have any effect but why fire up the rookie?

Lastly, did I tell him to shut up? Something you and others love to tell Ben. No, but I don't agree with giving the rookie some extra motivation either.

What has Ben ever said that was incendiary? I seriously can't think of anything. Heck, I've actually WANTED to see Ben get fired up from time to time.

He doesn't, he's never remotely said anything that could be construed as bulletin material.

Back to Mitchell though, I was just looking for the article I read about his comments, was a different article then the OP's and had more in it, I didn't find it but saw another article that had Mitchell the line coach making those comments. God, have to love journalism today :lolol:

Dude that is hilarious!!! I bet as it turns out the guy that wrote it wasn't even a journalist but had just saved 15% on his car insurance by switching to Geico.

So we let one loud mouth safety go and adopted another. Atleast Ryan earned (some of)his stupid banter... Just not enough to back it as his old legs showed up.

The best play of his career was when he lit McGahee up. I know he was sorta knocked out too but to see a Steeler drill a rat is just a thing of beauty.

I think your right there dobbler. Clark had some veteran experience and played well enough as a Steeler to earn his stripes to talk ****

I have not read the article yet and don't really care what he said. As far as I am concerned he has not done enough on the field to even have a voice so why are we talking about what Mitchell said..

On a sidebar .. He has hit pretty hard this year and caused a couple of turnovers.

Dude it is the most soft core smack I've ever heard. All he said was that "we are gonna test their qb's toughness". I bet Mettenberger is staying up nights worrying about it. LOL.

Can't help feeling like I'm missing something. His comments are pretty inocuous. They should try and test his toughness, otherwise they're in trouble.

I agree but I also can't shake the feeling that he was sent off with these words from someone else to say. Don't rookies have their "pr advisors" along side their life coaches?

Yeah but why put that challenge out there at all? I mean if I'm Mettenberger, I'm going to want to throw that back in their face and show them how tough I am.

I'm not sure how Thorn equates giving a team bulletin board material to what Tomlin or Ben does but it's not something I am fond of.

BF I apologize if my comment seemed like an attack that wasn't my intent, I was commenting more on how you like Ben to speak his mind, and earlier in the week you said you liked how Tomlin messes with press and here with Mitchell we have a guy who basically said the coaches some things on tape from the Ravens game and we are going to try those things as well, they are going to test toughness. Like Blount was saying it is pretty mild and to use it as bulletin board material Wiz would have to be really desperate for any kinda spark for his team. Oh no so and so said they were going to come after our QB and test his toughness, in a football game no less, well heck we are going to have put a stop to him trash talking like that.

The reason I bought up Tomlin/Ben is because if we insert either one of their names in the story instead Mitchell would you have characterized it as shooting off their mouths? I am not saying that Ben or Tomlin are saying anything incendiary because I don't think Mitchell did either but rather the source of the comments is what you find tiring. If Ben had said we watched the tape and saw some stuff that we think we can exploit, some areas where we can really attack them and test their defense, would that be bulletin board material? would people be going man Ben why did you do that? Same thing if Tomlin say they are a solid football team and in breaking down film they saw some stuff they can work with, ways they can get after them on both sides of the ball, really come after this young QB and young team would we care that he said it? Well yes some members would. I guess my whole point boils down to who said it making it noteworthy or forgettable.

It's fine, Thorn, no worries but thanks. :good:

I wouldn't have had an issue with Mitchell had he phrased it like that but to me, he's calling out Mettenberger, going to see how tough he is. To me thats a challenge to your manhood, because now if he does get knocked around, if he does have a bad game, he's not tough.

You have a point though that people are less forgiving when it comes to people they don't like.

As far as the media stuff, it's just the bulletin board comments I don't like.
