The team that showed up on Sunday has become pretty damn common over the past 4 years, so much so that I believe they deserve their own name. You have the Pittsburgh Steelers who if they show up they are very rarely beaten.

Then you have this team, bumbling, stumbling, STUPID losers. When this team shows up it no longer matters who they are playing they will lose for sure. This team is the definition of INEPT I've never seen anything like it. They deserve their own name, hence the title of this thread, those are two of the best I can think of right now. I like the Pittsburgh Can't Succeeders because that best describes them to me. Then you know when this team shows up, to just change the channel and keep you blood pressure low.

You can truly tell from the get go which team shows, and what the outcome will be. I mean this team truly shows up some 60% percent of the time?

They can't get out of their own way....and it seems FORGET the Bronco's or Patriots, or Colts or Seahawks, the hardest team for the Can't Succeeders to beat is the 0 win to 3 win teams....Have they ever won one of these games under Tomlin?

They've once again failed to take the next step or turn the corner...instead they dazzle for 2 weeks and then it's like..."Nah, it's still us fans....you know that totally INEPT team"

It's become so predictable that it's comical. I think I could make a fortune off of them from now on...if the Steelers are playing a 1-3 win team and the odd's are heavily with the steelers, bet against them, they have proven they will almost certainly lose, and you will make some serious cash. This is slight exaggerating but I almost wish some one would put together the % of times we have lost to a 0-4 losing record team the past 5 years...I seriously believe it would be anywhere from 70% and up.

This team has to prove to this WHOLE fanbase that they can stop being mental midgets, they can't even ride a wave of momentum without doing everything to **** it up.

I don't HATE Tomlin, but I'm really starting to think this is the identity of this team now and that's on him. This team has a lot of talent but can't stay focused to save their lives. They always disappoint now....always. That speaks to me that Tomlin isn't the guy. We need someone new, I think, to come in and be like " Alright, no more ****ing around, you have the talent STOP being so mentally weak that you can't win when expected to!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is one exceptional post! I was right in step with you until the replacing Tomlin part. Regardless of how you, I or anyone else outside the 'leadership' of the Steeler's organization think or feel, its not going to happen unless they really do become an absolute lost cause with multiple 4-6 win seasons. So the answer to this consistent inconsistency MUST be the growth and maturation of Tomlin, not replacing him.
Tomlin is a young man when compared his head coaching peers. Is he the best head coach in the league? Hardly. But he is not going anywhere soon and he is also learning. Like our team he is inconsistent and often exasperating but they are our team and he is/will be our coach for years to come.
The best I think we can hope for is he continues learning and becomes a top head coach in this league and the talent on the team will execute and perform up to their abilities. It will take time but hopefully it will be worth it.

    Hey,

Thanks for the response. When you say exceptional I hope you mean in a good way

I have your exact same mind set about Tomlin but he really really let me down here, so much so that I feel my faith in him fading quickly.

I mean I understand that he's young and needs to grow and learn.....but he's not getting any better here. Same damn issue 5 years running. These losses are embarrassing.

I hate hate hate hate Harbaugh but I can't rightly call him names or anything when he points and laughs at us after these losses like he did.

This team to me seems so MENTALLY messed up. The y can't win when they are supposed to, it's like they are afraid to be good and carry the expectations that come with that.

It's great that they put up stats, but they fail at situational football like no other them in the league. A good team walks into these trap games and takes a beating but finds a way to win in the end.

The steelers always look like they couldn't even beat Rutgers until the last 2 mins when they finally frantically try to come back......and I'm sitting there just laughing at how pathetic they look.

Example. Steelers some how manage to LOSE to the BUCS and then the Ravens murder them the next week with Flacco throwing...what? 4 TD's in the 1st qtr?

Take care of business or it will eventually take care of you.

Perhaps the Steelers over the last few seasons have just been a mediocre team with a few stand-out players. You can get wins that way but the margin for error is less.

While I'm (of course) also frustrated with the back-and-forth shows from this team the last few years, I made it through the 80s with the Steelers, so for now, I'll just keep calling them The Steelers.

Win the SB and no one will care about the Jets game anymore. And before anyone scoffs, what I saw them do to the Colts and Ravens, can be done to any team.

Won't be playing any Jet or Tampa caliber teams in the playoffs, no worries there

Something I noticed watching the losses and games that we almost lost and there is a pattern that is emerging. I think a big part of the problem is "plan B" situations, it seems like they come out with a game plan and if the opposing team does something to that makes the game plan difficult to execute, then the team is in trouble and struggles. The Colts came in thinking they will just throw the ball and outscore the Steelers, they were expecting the team to run and it showed, they got almost no pressure as there secondary is really bad. The Ratbirds game was more of the same, but no Jimmy Smith and when they blitzed they got beat and that was pretty much the deal. So the team goes to play the Jets, they figure to keep the defense off balance by running the ball from the get go only the Jets have a good front 4 and they were able to apply pressure while still covering the hot routes. The biggest problem we have is the inability to change what we are doing, it seems if plan A doesn't work, plan B is gadget plays and more stuff that doesn't work, there is no rhyme or reason for this and I still put it on the coaches, the same thing goes for Haley and LeBeau, learn to do something different or adjust to changing schemes, teams come out ready to play against us and we don't, things need to change and if it is the head coach so be it.

I like BK99's comments and have been thinking since the Jets game about the team dealing with just what he pointed out. My ponderings are about how do you train and practice for changing horses in midstream. I'd be really interested reading more comments about it. If mine's just a stupid question, kindly just ignore it.

It is most certainly not that.

My thought is that your team leaders (starting with coaches) try to make adjustments, based on what they see. This includes coaches opening up their play books and looking at different strategies, audibles by the QB, and last minute assignment tweaks by field captains (these I would guess are mostly defensive to give cues on who in the opposing offense will get the ball or which way the play is going).

I don't really have the answers since I'm not a football pro or insider, but this makes sense to me when I think about it.

Another question I have is this: How do we know the coaches are not adjusting?

Great to see you around grannieBurgh.. It's been a very long time. BK99's raises some interesting points.. I blame the coaches lol. JK.. There is sometimes so much wrong with this team and then times when they are firing on all cylinders.. It's anybodys guess what is wrong. I certainly don't have the answer just hoping someone gets it before the years out and we are looking at another year of not making the playoffs. I know after the Ravens game I was thinking SB.. Not so much now lol

first - the jets are probably capable of being a .500 team definitely more talented than the record they have
second - we beat the jaguars
third - we looked pretty inept the first quarter against the ravens - we adjusted and won

I'm sorry, I have to disagree with that. For the first QTR I'd say your right, they legitimately played very well. The rest of the game the Jets tried to hand it over to the Steelers and they just wouldn't take it.

Look I understand the not being to worried or upset about this loss mentality.

But if it comes down at the end of the year ( once again ) to being out of the playoffs by 1 or 2 losses, people will be looking at this games and ones like it as the reason the steelers can't seem to make it to the playoffs anymore.

It just seems like this team can't stay focused for a whole season, they do good and seemingly lose interest.

They must stay focused enough to battle it out with these desperate losing record teams, they'll get beat up and take a few punches but they have to learn to win these games again, that is something they have definitely lost over the past 5 years.

Just a note of perspective. Everyone wants to say the only reason that the Patriots make the playoffs EVERY year is because they play in such a lousy division. Yet year in and year out they play these types of games and always win them....hence constant playoffs, the steelers don't hence 8-8 seasons and BARELY missing the playoffs!! Football is a game of inches in every single way....an inch away from the playoffs = no chance to fight for a super bowl. This team would be a VERY dangerous playoff team!! If they could only focus enough to get there.

I thought of this thread, when I read this article, so I had to come back and dig it up..

I think the writer picks "The Inscrutable Steelers"...

    http://triblive.com/sports/joestarkey/7178438-74/steelers-browns-inscrutable#axzz3K2eGErUh

He makes some very good points...

    It aint JUST us...

But it is maddeningly frustrating TO us!!!

We see it from OUR team all the time, and, maybe don`t notice, that it is going on, all over the league...

I actually got to watch more football, than I expected, last weekend, and it`s crazy, EVERYWHERE!!!

    Esp, OUR div...

I haven`t watched any of the Cravens game tonight, but I fully expect them to win it, when I watch he 2nd half/ end of the game...
Look at what the records in our division will be in that case...
    7-4,
    7-4,
    7-4,
    6-3-1..

    And somehow 6-3-1 = 1st place!!!

Whuda ever thunk that at the beginning of the year?

Even If Balt loses, we willl be the ONLY division, where NO team has a losing record...

    This is crazy!

The only thing I can thuink to compare it to, for a rarity, is when THREE of the teams in our division, made the playoffs, about 3 years ago...

That even seemed more normal, because the Clowns were far behind the rest of us...

GO STEELERS! WIN OUT, AND IT DON`T MATTER!!!:herewego::yeehaw::drinks::herewego!:

We are so inept that we won 7 of our first 11 games. Totally unacceptable. Can't be a successful team at 7-4...Lol in all honesty we definitely have a two bad losses. Every team on the league has one or two at this stage in the season. We just can't have any more. We have 5 games left, and we are still in great shape in the playoff picture. No one is invincible.

Besides, I'd rather be the team that wins a few games they "shouldn't" and loses a couple bad ones. At least we will be able to knock some of the playoff caliber teams in January (and hopefully February). What is the point of bludgeoning the scrubs if you get mopped up on the first round of the playoffs cuz you can't compete with the big dogs?

Kyle Orton and Mark Sanchez outplayed Ben Roethlisberger against the same opponents in recent weeks, teams that the Bills and Eagles got on top of and throttled.

Yes, this football team is poorly coached.

    I'll leave it at that.

I would suggest that the Steelers have more "bad" losses than "surprising" wins over the past several seasons.

If you remember, Coach T had always said "The game plan is what it is, we would change it". That has always been my biggest gripe with him. If other team's adjust to what we are doing, then we need to have a reactive strike for that in place. Instead, we get what we have been seeing. A team that appears to have it together only to end up having to struggle through the later parts of the game.

Now maybe Tomlin has changed that philosophy but it hasn't been apparent to me.
