wk. 9 postgame observations

Another Big Key was Cortez Allen didn't get fried , because we kept him in the rear with the gear , I don't think he will get right this season , I hope we don't need him in a big game down the stretch ..Someone suggested maybe moving him to Safety a week or so back ,well that might be exactly what we need to do...I have been on Game rewind and his play has been nothing short of horrid...He isn't physical enough , he isn't fast enough when WR'S come out of breaks, he can't read routes well enough, he can't time his jump or get his hands in there to break up passes,,,and to top all that off he has even been soft after the catch or against the run...

I just don't see him playing CB at a high level in the NFL ...Man I hope I am wrong , but his tape looks bad in almost every way so not sure how he builds and works on every part of his game ?

 

No way. I counted one minor hold (DHB). The rest of the nearby blocks were clean.

And you can't expect a hold like that to be called. It wasn't that bad, and he kept DHB close. I'm not saying it wasn't holding, I'm just saying I would have been shocked if they actually threw a flag (for regular reasons, not conspiracy reasons).

Anyway, my point about the coverage stands. Were we really relying on one guy (DHB) to shed his block and make a tackle? Because he's the only one that had a chance. The other 10 were out to lunch. That was terrible coverage, and the reason for the touchdown allowed.

 

He has good tape too. Keenan Lewis had bad tape. So does Ike Taylor. Guys get into funks sometimes.

 

I agree , but his funk just seems really funky to me....I have seen some stellar play out of the guys you mentioned , do you have a game where Cortez played stellar ? If you do I would like to go watch it to maybe see what is wrong with him...

 

Great win for the Steelers! Just wish they would learn to take their 5 hour energy alittle earlier prior to game time. Onto the Jets.

 

Yes way.. We will have to agree to disagree. My eyes are perfectly fine and I saw what I saw. If I knew how to create a gif I could show you .. Perhaps TTF can or someone else..

There was an opportunity for a tackle if Mcain or DHB is not held. I cannot remember exactly who it was but I know what I saw..

 

Team was great, coaching was great. Seems Spence has lost a step. I love his story and get the fast linebacker for coverage idea but does he still have the wheels to do it?

 

Great win and I think this team is finally getting some things done. Of course everyone was worried in the 1st qtr as I was thinking here we go again the real Steelers are showing up but they overcame the hated ratbirds.

- I heard Tomlin call our receivers "Kool & the Gang". AB is Kool and the rest are the Gang. Better than young money crew.
- Ramon Foster is the weak link on our offensive line. If we get another guard in the mold of DeCastro next year we will be set.
- Heath Miller is the man and I love him to death but we need a TE with pass catching ability and speed. If we had an Owen Daniels, Jason Whitten, Gates, or Graham we would be hard to beat.
-What happens when Harrison and Kiesel don't come back next year?
-Is special teams going to be a problem? Coverage that is.
-It took us 8 weeks to bench Cortez Allen, how long will it take to bench Cam Thomas?
-Ryan Shazier is starting to worry me. I'm not saying he's injury prone yet, but he needs to have a 4 leaf glover, a cross and a rabbit's foot in his pocket during games.
-William Gay, Brice McCain, Antwon Blake, Mike Mitchell and Allen are our secondary.
-Lastly, Big Ben. I thought he would have a hard time making the HOF if he ended his career today. He didn't play well, in the first Super Bowl and pretty average in the second, but after these two performances he might make it.

 

This is in line with another post I made yesterday where I officially nicknamed him "Glass Joe". Not because he's getting injured so often, but because the injuries seem to happen on plays where players (especially defensive players) don't normally get hurt. I see him getting pushed backwards on his tail a lot, or diving on the ground after the play is long over - and then getting up limping. Like I said - Glass Joe.

 

Anyone out there catch Harbaughs reaction on the Steelers 2 pt. conversion? It was a classic.LOL.

 

You mean the look he gave when he knew he was screwed? Had nothing to pout about? Time to head for the bus, cause it's gonna be a long night of karma?

 

Just read on another site that Harbaugh cut 2 CBs today. One of them started Sunday night.LOL.
