You're right. Actually, they're doing Tomlin a favor. None of their comments were about playcalling or scheme, but attitude from the players.

    Like JHs approach to this.

I'd love to see him gaining momentum the next 2 weeks, looking forward to the Ravens game.

I used to go to a place to watch the game back in the 90's and there was one guy who would yell "Kill Him!" at the top of his lugs right before a snap on Defense.

Good times even when they were losing. Something lacking from this team. The hitting....

Dick LeBeau's players love him. That doesn't make him an effective coach. The proof is in the pudding, and the pudding has been all over the field the past few years. :bscow:

Worilds seemed to complain about the defense after last weeks loss to the Browns, they have him dropping into coverage too much. They are paying him too much money just let him rush the QB, also Woodley said the same thing after he left in the offseason.

Did I read that right. Are you suggesting that because DLs players love him he is ineffective as a coach? Cause if your saying that I call BS

I think maybe James was calling him a player's coach which means that what James said was racist. LOL! Just kidding! I saw this earlier. I also think it's on the players but who is telling the players to give a huge cushion? There is tons of blame to go around and I even saw a segment while ago where Brian Baldinger as talking about how the league has pretty much figured out the zone blitz. Maybe or maybe not but DL just doesn't have much to work with right now. If you don't have guys that can get to the qb I don't care who you are you are not going to win in this league. Right now we don't have those guys.

DL has been decoded by the rest of the league and is either unwilling or unable to change. At nearly 80 years old, it's time for him to move on. Unfortunately, he's hung on now for about three years too long.

I'm sure Tomlin would like for him to move on but it would just be SO hard to fire a guy that can read The Night Before Christmas as well as he can. LOL!

I'm sure JH is just thrilled to be playing and he is Kissing butt of probably the only senile old man who actually wanted to sign JH before he went to Cincy

Did DL actually advocate bringing him back before letting him go to Cincy? I'm not saying he didn't. I'm just saying that I find it surprising because he's never been one to really question his coach. Even though he basically knows more about football than most coaches and coordinators in the league combined.

The huge cushion you speak of BFT was not the issue from what I saw. They were biting on PA ... It comes down to execution. When you have DA Beard chasing down a tight end the problem is not scheme

That is true, which makes me once again question what they're doing in practices. That is on all the coaches. But scheme is also an issue. We can't get to the QB whatsoever and haven't been able to for years now

it sure would be easier to coach a defense that has your next group of good players healthy and learning week to week. we are feeling the effects of shazier,J.jones, mclendon and ike not being out there. that's not easy on DL trying to build a defense and counting on some solid play from certain people we really needed to count on this year. they may not be super stars yet but they were being heavily counted on.

I don't think teams have figured out the 3-4 as Lebeau runs it, I think that as the at this point the play calling has become predictable 75% of all blitzing is done from both outside linebacker positions which was fine when Harrison and Woodley were in their hey day. The other 25% is the cross fire blitz or various DB back blitzes that are negated because the blitzer runs headlong into a running back and makes the play worthless. The once feared who is coming and who isn't just isn't there anymore mostly because you get guys running to the line and showing blitz even if they don't commit to the blitz it doesn't throw teams off anymore. Why? because teams and OL coaches know teach your guards to stay near the center and don't allow gaps to happen, that leaves the tackles and an occasional TE to handle the OLB. The DL crashes down into the center which holds up the tackles take the OLB's wide and the QB steps up and makes the throw to the open man in the zone. Sometimes there is a gap that an ILB can shoot through but again the RB chips him and pressure relieved.

I really think the defense needs to watch tape on what teams do to the offensive line and how they confuse them and start adapting some of them for use in the 3-4. That or don't be so obvious in the blitz packages have an OLB take the tackle wide, have the DE crash the guard into the center and then have a guy with spence's speed look like he is in coverage but burst into the gap created but have it be a designed play, Spence the designed blitzer everything else is camouflage, sell it and let him get in on the QB or Shazier when he gets back. Design more 1 OLB blitzing and 1 ILB with the DL ripping holes in protection and forcing them to guess who to pick-up. anyways that is what I would do, what do I know though

My point of view was slightly different. I see this as a credit to JH; not going with status quo and coasting on a final contract, trying to give voice to this defense, or most likely as an attempt to find a way to be a defensive leader on a young team that really isn't his any longer. Perhaps standing up for them/DL is the only way he can pull them together.

Plus, one's impression after reading the following was that if he were speaking with BC or HW privately he would totally agree with them. Anyone else get that from his statement?

"It bothers me because they’re calling us soft,” Harrison said. “I understand [why they said it], but we’ve got different players now than we did before. Right now, we’re learning what players can do and what players can’t do, and we’ll have to go from there.”

The argument Harrison makes in defense of DL is the exact reason he needs to go. The scheme DL uses requires extreme talent and strength at every position to work, each down lineman needs to take on two blockers, each LB has to bat the tackles and the CBs have to hold up for a full 3 to 4 seconds. Against the Browns we saw Heyward bull rush his guy right back to Hoyer and then come off and get the sack, the reason that happened was because the coverage held up and the OLBers were collapsing the pocket on both sides not allowing Hoyer to move laterally so he had to step up and Heyward dominated his man. All it would take is for 1 more solid defensive lineman and the scheme would look a little better but that is the big problem with the scheme, everyone has to win their matchups with no breakdown. The reason I say he has to go is two-fold, first, the rest of the league has the cross fire blitz figured out and most teams pick it up with ease anymore, and the second reason is he is unable to come up with any scheme to put the best players in position to make a play. Take a look at how he makes up for a weak secondary, he doesn't change anything, he just uses the nickel package every play and in nickel we can't stop the run. This was evident when we played the Broncos with Tim Tebow at the helm, we had no safety help because we could not stop the run whatsoever at that point so knowing Tebow isn't too good of a passer, we sold out against the run only to see Ike Taylor get burned for big play after big play. The guy completed 10 passes, 10 and it was for 316 yards, 31.6 yards per completion because there was no help as the CBs were unable to cover and we had to sell out on the run so much that we didn't even rush, they run blitzed the entire game. DL only knows the 3-4 zone blitz defense and if he can't come up with a scheme to highlight the skills of the players he has to work with, well that is when it is time to leave the game as you are out of ideas, Einstein said it best, "the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result".
