In the end, we were on top for nearly a decade. Made 3 SBs and took home 2 trophies. Teams like that come around every 3 decades or so, and that's what we had. The team sold their soul and opened their wallets to keep that bunch together, and it worked. As of today, well, you see what we have now. You can chalk it up to Tomlin, Haley, LeBeau, bad draft picks, old players kept too long, or just the fact that it was time. In the end the clock runs out on almost everything, and the Steelers, well, time found them. For the next two years, maybe three this team will be rebuilding, and that's the way it is. Teams that have been god awful for decades will surpass us as the changing of the guard continues. Make no mistake, the Steelers will rebound. Probably see a new D cord next year along with a new O cord very soon. Tomlin will get another year, but maybe not much more than that? We will continue to see an infusion of young talent until we get the right players. It was a process to get there, and it will be a process to get back, but they will in time. Just hard to look up at the top of that hill, and know we a lot of climbing to do to get back. When they do I will be here to see it ( God willing) but until then......Go Steelers

Good post, but it does beg the question. Why do the Patriots stay on top after 15 years, the Colts took a nose dive for a year and once again are an annual playoff contender for going on 4 years straight. Baltimore has reloaded. I understand things change, but it doesn't really give the organization any kind of a mulligan especially considering they have a franchise qb. You should not be missing the playoffs for multiple years when you have a franchise qb.

The bottom line is the front office and Mike Tomlin, probably LeBeau too because I suspect he has had his say on the type of players (including vets) he wants for defense have royally f&*ked up the last 5-6 years managing the cap and not being willing to jettison players when they have needed to.

We've been a pretty bad team for about four years in a row now. Even when we made the playoffs in 11 and got Tebowed in the wild card game we were pretty mediocre that whole season. They will always be my one and only team but I've lost all faith in them in the past few years. Hell I went fishing this morning instead of watching the game because I knew the browns were going to pound us. I actually forgot all about the game untill later on when I checked the score and we were down 21-3. It just doesn't bother me like it used to. We had a nice seven year run but it's over now. Get ready for a lot worse than 8-8 in the next few years.

I hear what you're saying Rambro, but if 12-4 is mediocre, I'll take mediocracy every year. That was our record in 2011, btw.

Who in the AFC East has even put a challenge on New England? None.

Tomlin should get a chance at to PICK his own coordinators. He inherited LeBeau which worked out for him for a while, did promote Ariens then Art II decided to retire him or fire him and hired Haley due to what his Father did for the organization. Both Haley and LeBeau should be shown the door after this season. Then let Tomlin hire both and lets see where it goes. If The Offense sputters against the Texans at home and they lose I would not be surprised if Haley is shown the door. Ben and Haley = can't exist together. There were reports that Tomlin did not want Ariens to leave. Nor did Ben.

LeBeau's scheme is old and outdated, to complicated. Most of his safety blankets got old and left. And there are some who are just old that are here. Then some were brought back, well because. It's pitiful a washed up corner who is injured is the best corner on the roster. His new wrinkles to an outdated scheme don't work. Need a fresh approach. I would like to see the 4-3 come back. And not LeBeau next year. I will take a few down years because watching this crap is already on my last nerve.

Haley should be gone before the season is over hopefully. His play calling has NO consistency. Running Dre Archer between the tackles? Are you kidding me?!

I agree with the initial post but when you have a franchise quarterback the organization needs to ensure they do everything to put the pieces in place to ride the good times. The inability to put an offensive line in place to improve the team has been a major shortcoming of the organization for a few years. The league is all about offense now and not having a good offensive line is critical. We also made some bad choices on Defense which has not allowed us to get younger and suffer salary cap issues. I would rather fix our line issues and take our chances we can out score the other team rather than depend on defense.

It stinks when this happens but it happens to every team eventually. 1988, 2002 ....seen a few seasons like this over the years.
