Yes I believe this is Mendenhalls last year on his current contract. This was his 4th season, so his contract is up after this year. Now that he has a knee injury, I think it makes it easier for the Steelers not to keep him and pay him a lot of money. I think they should let him walk in free agency. Let some other team pay him a lot of Money. Instead they should pay Wallace the money. They can fine a better RB in free agency or upgarade through the draft. Also, they should not resign Bruce Arians and concentrate on bringing in a competent OC who knows how to develop a running game. With that in mind they should do their homework and try to fine a better back to work along with Redman. Baron Batch will take Moore's place and could turn out to be a good back.

Infect, if Redman does well in the playoffs, they definitely should let Mendenhall walk in free agency. They don't want to make the same mistake they made in signing Woodley to a long term contract for all that money. That was definitely a big mistake. All they had to do was to franchaise Woodley for 10 million and then sign two good offensive linemen with the other 51 million to protect Ben. Then they could have let Woodley walk in free agency in 2012 and had a competent o-line. The Steelers know how to develop LB's, so it wouldn't have been a problem. The team would have been better off in the long haul. Now, if Woodley gets worst and doesn't produce, then the Steelers are out of a lot of money.

I believe Baron Batch is on IR because of a torn ACL? He has been out for sometime now and just recently began cutting so it would seem your right Ray it can be a long time healing

RM has actually looked pretty decent the past few weeks. Granted, against some of the more porous run defenses in the league - but still. It will hurt to not have the depth.

As for Redman's fumbles - that happens when you get 6 guys tackling you at a time. Maybe an issue of trying to hard; if you get into the secondary and see you're about to be tackled by more than 2 defenders, it's time to protect the rock and not try for those extra 2-3 yards.

I don't like Mendy so it's great news to me.

I have faith in Redman and Clay, with Mendy out it'll save our o-lines backs and legs from that idiot running into them all the time. Redman is the better back it's time for him to shine in the playoffs. Putting 250lbs Clay in there too will wear down the D. The running game just got better.

You're right. I thought Mendy had finally started to run the ball effectively and was looking forward to seeing what he could do in the playoffs. He has great physical tools but doesn't always use them well, but he could have made a difference in the playoffs.

The major issue here is depth. Even if redman and clay can produce like you believe (which I doubt) that only gives us two productive running backs instead of three. When one goes down that puts more pressure on the rest. I like redman as much as the next guy but it is unknown as to whether or not he can handle a greater workload. Clay only has 10 carries on the entire season and to me that isn't enough to feel confindent about his ability to produce from here on out. It doesn't matter if you like mendy or not, he has been a productive rb and our running game will suffer as a result of his loss

Any chance we sign anyone? Or do we go into the playoffs with only 2 healthy running backs?

What happened to Dwyer? I thought that he was pretty good. Why isn't he playing? In Tomlin's doghouse or something?

This made me laugh. The Steelers didnt have a good day on offense because of the running game. They used a spread quick pass offense and scored fast. Hines Ward had his only two touchdowns of the season. Heath had a monster game too.

Am I the only one who sees the trend? Hines and Heath score points, while Second-half-season-Wallace, Brown (even though I really like him), and Sanders don't.

Mendy seemed to lack heart running the ball this year.

Redman is not a big play back but I think he will get consistent gains and there will be less third and longs. Clay has not played enough to know what he has. Moore is average. Dwyer (irrelevant because out) has not played enough to know what he has; same with Batch.

If Moore is healthy there is enough at running back; this is a passing offense. *I hope Ben can practice more to get sharper for the second playoff game.*

The team should let Mendy go and get someone else next year IMO.

Mendy just does not fit in our offensive scheme (whatever it is??). I believe that if he were on a team that actually tried to establish a running game he would be a top 5 back easily. His numbers are pretty decent and he's always a threat to break off a big run; however, instead of trying to establish the run we call bubble screens and deep bombs. Redman will be able to step up and fill in with the little running that we do. Throw in Clay and they have the opportunity to punish an opposing D. I like Mendy a lot but I'm excited to see Redman get more touches.

Without a new OC, some talent on the O-line, and a real fullback there is no point in paying Mendenhall, post ACL surgery, a lot of money. I wish him a successful surgery and a speedy recovery.

Redman is probably going to be carrying a ball around with him all week - to practice, around the house, etc. He'll be fine next week, and we'll have some power in our running game.

Actually Red was fine ...THE WR let his guy go on the 1 and Red refused to give up...So this week both will do better...

On the 1st. one the pocket was not good so Red slid the ball away from where he thought the ccontact would be,,,unfortunatt popedfrom that side....

So I have no reason to belive that Red needs to carry the ball this week...........He will do great if BA will allow it.........

if one goes down we still have David Johnson .. he's a 260lbs FB.. so I say we still have 3 guys capable of running the ball with authority

You'd be comfortable running David Johnson multiple times in a playoff game? Are you serious?

Are you going on 10 and not 20, or a troll fan of another team that has infiltrated a Steelers message board?? because you've been making the most asinine comments/statements that I've seen from one person in awhile.

How david johnson managed to make this roster is beyond me. I don't trust him catching the ball let alone carrying the ball in the playoffs. And just cuz someone is 260lbs doesn't mean they are capable or running the ball effectively

I'm just saying if Clay or Redman goes down then who else can run the ball? This is where I got David from he's a FB , FB's can run with the ball, if he sucks at it then he sucks but who else can run with the ball?
