I was listening to the game on the radio and Tunch and Wolfe were mentioning Troy on nearly every series and the plays he was making. The one play that stuck out to me was when they said he followed the reciever in motion who was his primary responsibility and then timed the snap perfect and jumped between the Center , Guard and nailed Seneca Wallace at the moment he got the snap.

We've all seen him do this time and time again over the years and more than not these plays are successful for the defense. We've seen him 20 yards back and blitzing. We seen him up on the line and then dropping into cover disrupting the coverage on receivers and TE's. Most of the time I honestly believe the coaches don't know what he will do on a certain play bt they have trust in him so much that they always allow it.

Is there another player on another team, sport, or history of any game that has had so much free reign to play the game his/her way? I'm talking team sports. Not Tennis or Golf per se.

Ben Roethlisberger comes to mind and Peyton Manning but I still think the coaches have more of an impact with their intentions.

Speaking of that "high flying" play he made on wallace, I heard they changed it at halftime from a sack to a tackle for a loss. Anybody know the reason why tackling a QB behind the line of scrimmage is not a sack? Has it something to do with the QB's intention was not a pass but a run?

That is exactly correct. A sack can only occur on a pass play. Since that play never had time to develop there can be no sack.

Troy is definatley a one of a kind type of player. We have seen him make plays like that time and time again throughout the years and it's somewhat unfortunate that those type of plays don't stand out on a stat sheet. His ability to anticipate a snap count is just unbelievable, unlike anything I've ever seen before. Here's to hoping he can stay healthy for a few more years cuz he is hands down my favorite steelers player to watch :towel:

I knew that was going to happen. He didn't get credit for a sack on Kerry Collins last year either. They determine what's a sack and what's not based on intent. Has always seemed crazy to me. How do they officially determine intent? Studying the receivers to see if they were about to go on routes or about to block? My god, a guy tackles the QB on a simple hand-off running play before he can even get close to handing it off, you give him a sack!!

Oh, but if a QB fumbles the snap and falls on it and someone pokes him with a pinkie finger, that's a sack. Even if it was a running play. Makes sense. They can't even be consistent with their BS rules.

I wish I could have seen it. Tunch and Wolfe were going off about it for quite a while.

Polamalu has such a great sense of the flow of the game that he can nearly dominate how almost every offense operates.

I keep saying that they really should try and have him play with his hair tucked and see how confused the offense might be. The QB would need to pay attention more than he already does if he cannot identify him by his hair. It might not make much of a difference but with a rookie QB like Tebow who has a tendency to put the ball up floater style it could result in a pick. The reason he doesn't have many picks is because the QB is always aware of where he is at. I know he's dropped two Int's for sure but mainly they avoid throwing towards him as much as possible.

Not really intent, I guess I misspoke a little. More on how the play is developing. As soon as the qb drops back you can pretty much tell run vs pass. As to the fumbled snap that the qb falls on...I don't think you get a sack for that.

I think it should be anytime a QB is tackled behind the line of scrimmage no matter if its a pass play, run play or a QB dog leg. it should be considered a sack.

A QB gets stuffed on QB sneak on 4th and 1, you want to call that a "sack"?

I saw the play - and it was pretty obvious he was heading in Hillis's direction for a hand-off, or at least play-action. Therefore, not a sack.

Funny; that was not a sack, but Harrison's hit on Colt was helmet to helmet on a 'passer' resulting in a suspension.

No intent to hijack, just showing the nonsense.
