No shirt for you: Steelers' Mike Tomlin bans jersey-swapping

    By Scott Brown | ESPN.com

    ...

But Brown said he understands the message Tomlin is trying to send by prohibiting the swap of jerseys right after a game.

“We want a point of emphasis on winning games. We’re not here to trade apparel,” Brown said. “It’s the right way to do it.”

That this is even brought up, goes a long way to showing how the game has changed, from "us vs. them", to,
"We are all professional multi-million dollar athletes", nowadays...
And that is all I have to say about that.
Kudos to Tomlin for tryin to reign it in.

Yeah now if he would stop the players from taking unnecessary risks in a one score game, just to pad someone's stats then we could really acknowledge the commitment to winning being the most important thing.

I damn near bit right through my tongue when I read that. I hope like hell this isn't Tomlin's response to the criticism he got for that play.

I'm okay with that I guess it's a step in the right direction... Now let's see him put the kibosh on playing down to your opponents.

I agree with Coach T! I must admit, it bugs the crap out of me to see the player making nice and swapping jerseys with the other team, especially right after they've just whipped our butts on the field!

You think Mean Joe and Lambert would have done that crap, Myron, as bad as they hated losing?

Of course they never did Jack (least I hope not) Lets get Coach T coaching at a level near what Coach Noll coached at than we can discuss the trivial **** that goes on after the game.

I didn't even know this was a thing. If you swap jerseys after the game, does that mean you're going steady?

Very common among players. I do know personally a former baseball player and they would coordinate it before the game. He has some very cool jerseys hung on his rec room's wall.

Wasn't there an article about Bettis and Ward coordinating swaps with other teams star players as well?

I preferred that play-off game a few years ago when the Chargers were beaten by the Pats, and when the final whistle went Ladainian Tomlinson just sprinted over to the other sideline to start a fight.

In terms of the article - it's not a big thing, really, but it's part of a wider re-capturing of the sense of focus that I think we all agrees the team needs.

Myron - stay calm, my friend. I'm pretty sure that this isn't the sum total of Tomlin's coaching input today: "Guys, I'm cancelling practice so that I can lecture you all on jersey-swapping".

I can just imagine what Joe or Jack would have done if they caught another player doing this. Unfortunately, there are few players in the league anymore with the character of those 2.

The timing of this does seem a little bit strange, but it's a good move. Lambert and Greene would have a "no helping opponents up" rule, too.

I am a coach and to me this shows respect and admiration of an opponent's skills... or at least that's where I would direct it. I think its wrong to do it at the game and on the field but then again, think of how many kids could be watching and the message it sends.

Use Troy as an example... On the field he is a fiery player, full of passion and desire to win. But off the field, very mild mannered, laid back and soft spoken.

To hate your opponent on the field of battle is one thing (and should be expected) but after the game is over? If the fans saw the players doing this maybe a few less fights on the way back to the cars?

I would like to hear Sir Heath's take on it

Wish he would focus more on winning games. Not sure how jersey swapping helps or hurts our game plan.

And really..... who the heck was asking to get a Jacksonville jersey anyway? And with Joey Porter's feelings for the Browns.... I seriously doubt we'll be swapping jersey's at Cleveland.

I don't know maybe it's me but I prefer to worry about things when the game is going on,not after. Who really cares about a jersey swap. C'mon give me a break coach. You had no problem with putting the ball in the air in a one score game though. Priorities.....please.

Jack's impression of jersey swapping would have included carrying the jersey with the player still in it and throwing it in the dump somewhere on the way back to the burg!

Hold the horses, it appears that the jersey swapping is because a contractual obligation for the actual game worn jerseys to be sold by a third party.

Nothing to see here, move along....

Me too, Thigpen. And how about Joey Porter going onto the Rats team bus a few years ago to get an autographed Ray Lewis jersey??? Yeah, right! He went onto the Rats team bus after a game to kick Ray Ray's butt!!
