With a QB rating of 100.1 after 5 games and only 2 int's.

Some people on here still think he's hurting the club. Go figure? And s*** he isn't playing his best football right now. Keep this up Ben but add more TD passes please.

I also looked at this stat yesterday.
Keys to his rating boost from previous years: 1) He's targeting shorter routes than years before. 2) YAC from Bell & Brown.

Every QB makes mistakes, the team has lots of problems, Bens not one of them. The fumble yesterday was bad, as was the strip sack but he does way more good then bad.

I'm not buying that qb rating junk. Ben is soft. Should look into a cb trade and "GO WITH GRAD!" Said no real Steelers fan ever.

No offense but you made this thread sound like another hotel/bathroom DTF incident. I almost had a coronary thrombosis just opening it.:worried:

With a QB like Ben, we should not be coming off two 8-8 seasons and poised for another. Sorry, but we just shouldn't.

    DAMN SKIPPY

second oldest veteran on the offense

who else can you lean on after Heath and Ben?

who handles the balls more than Ben?

he still has huge steps to take in my book.

That rating is meaningless for the most part.

For all the numbers Ben is putting up this team still breaks down in the red zone and can't score consistently in the second half.

19th in PPG is not good enough with this talent. Jacksonville came into the game giving up 38 PPG and our offense got 10. That's awful.

Anyone who is not happy now just wait until Ben retires, and this team may have to go year after year trying to find a franchise qb just like the drought between Bradshaw and Ben.

    Ben is a funny QB.

Case in point: he had a 103 passer rating last Sunday, which is excellent. But here are his stats inside the red zone vs Jax: 7 for 9 for 25 yds 1TD , two sacks and a fumble. Not so hot.

He regularly puts up high Passer ratings, he's also always high in sacks, and frequently stalls in the reddzone (the Steelers have been in the bottom half of the league in TD/FG ratio ever year this decade). His QBR the last 3 yrs has been middle of the pack.

he's tough, but sometimes is wreck less. He improvises wonderfully, but gives the impression that he doesn't know the play book.

He has deserved reputation as a winner but routinely loses to bad teams. In 10 years as a starter he's missed the playoffs 4 times. For contrast, in a combined 29 yrs as starters Peyton/Brady has missed playoffs only 3 times.

He provides ammunition for his ardent supporters and for his harshest critics.

I have said on here that I think Ben is borderline HOF - you really summed up Ben quite well. I think there are going to be a lot of detractors someday when it becomes time to decide whether Ben should be in Canton.

Frankly, I'm kinda worried about him not retiring a Steeler.

    Interesting thread...
Personally, I think "Afan"s post summed it up pretty well...
    One minute I`m prayin...
"C`mon Superman, pull out one of your last minute miracles!"...
    The next minute, I`m sayin...
    "Damnit Ben, Not AGAIN!!!"...
be it sack, fumble or int...
He IS a gunslinger, and will always take chances.
Sometimes they work, sometimes they don`t...
The same can be said of a LOT of great qb`s in the league, over the years...
Farve, Bradshaw, Elway, Staubach, Stabler, Fouts, etc, etc...
I can think of a lot more successful ones with that style, than the "precise passers"...
Maybe Brady, Montana, and, umm... Maybe you could say Marino, but he never won a bowl...;)
I`m sure there`s others on both sides of the equation, but I tend to believe you have to be willing to take chances,
    to win in this league.
And it helps if you have recievers that will fight for the ball for you...
As is, I`m lovin Ben from the day we drafted him, `till the day he (hopefully) retires from us!
Although, I do agree, there are times he frustrates the hell out of me, for instance,
His penchant for turning the ball over at the worst time, or in bunches, like the begining of last year.
That`s the exception to the rule, tho... not the norm!
    GO STEELERS!

He is a funny QB. For starters, his OL always sucks at pass blocking. Also all his WRs are trolls, and he's forced to play with TEs that are blockers and not exactly elite athletes for the position. He is hilarious as a franchise QB in that his team makes next to no effort to help maximize his abilities.

His OL sucks at pass blocking - but he refuses to go to quick routes or get rid of the football
His WRs are trolls - But Brown keeps setting team and league records and he keeps setting team records with them
His TEs are blockers and not exactly elite athletes - but somehow Heath Miller owns every TE receiving record the team has
The team makes no effort to help maximize his abilities - other than consistently drafting OL in the first and second round, or running backs, or hiring a new OL coach, or signing free agent wide receivers, or getting a new offensive coordinator to help change the offense to keep him healthy.

I like Ben but his stubbornness in his desire to do things his way is as much a part of the problem as anything else.

I do largely agree with this. Though this team has drafted the OL and WR position in recent yrs, they just didn't get much out of or didn't keep: Sweed, Wiilie Reid, sanders, Wallace, Holmes as WRs and Adams, Gilbert on the OL --- all these guys were taken in the first three rounds.

But I do wonder if things like the talent around him, things like firing Arians and forcing Haley on him will effect contract discussions this off season.
