...that's happened to the Raiders? I know that none of us want to even consider the possibility, but the Oakland Raiders are one of the storied franchises of the NFL. Growing up in the 70s there were three teams that dominated the NFL landscape; the Steelers, the Cowboys and the Raiders. What's happened to the Raiders in the last couple of decades? I realize they had a kooky owner who wanted to control every facet of the football team and that's certainly played into it, but it has to go beyond that, doesn't it? Dan Rooney won't be around forever and many fans, some on this board, don't seem to have the same kind confidence in Art Rooney II. The Raiders didn't get to be the laughingstock of the NFL overnight, it was a slow fade caused by years of poor personnel decisions, weak leadership from a coaching perspective, lack of discipline, lack of player personnel development, poor drafting, accepting mediocrity and refusing to recognize any of the afore-mentioned.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think we're close to being there yet. But is it possible? I know it's not a thought that any of us even want to consider, but could it happen to our beloved Pittsburgh Steelers in a decade or two if the organization gets complacent?. Ask those Raiders fans that grew up rooting for the Silver and Black Attack if they ever thought it could happen to their team. I just thought it might make for some interesting discussion. Thoughts?

The Raiders are on their 11th head coach since 1995. A lot of their problems start there.

The Steelers were pretty much what the Raiders are now for 40 years before Noll got there.

No, its not a fear or thought that remotely enters my mind. The Davis family is a far cry from the Rooney family.

Good point and that's a great case for consistency and continuity at the head coaching position.

The Raiders would be happy to have an 8-8 record. They screwed up a few years back when they let Hue Jackson go. He was starting to turn them around, look at how well he has done as the offensive coordinator for the Bengals, he has made them one of the best offenses in the NFL right now.
No Free Agents want to go there, because head coaches never last. This is a team that traded A 1ST round pick and 2nd round pick for Carson Palmer. Talk about dumb, not that Palmer isn't some what good, but talk about trading the farm for a guy who wasn't going to be the starter in Cincinnati any more.

Plus what is with all the hate on Art the II. Guy has gotten us to 3 super bowls and we have won 2 of them, while he has been acting team president. Lay off the guy. His only dumb move so far was letting Bruce Arians go, which is what most of the fans at the time wanted anyway. Now they all want him back!!!

    Right.

Which is not the same as saying we have to stick with the same HC all the time, of course - more, complete changes of philosophy every 1-2 years doesn't help build a winning squad. Haley's strength is (or is sometimes) that he works with what he's got, rather than re-shaping the offense completely.

The only way to really succeed like that is how the Raiders did it last time they were in the Superbowl: by getting a load of old players together for one last hurrah before they all retired. It's not a formula for long term success, suffice to say.

If changes are not made, you will see
mediocrity from the Steelers. You need a leader,
    we don't have one. Our
franchise Qb will be done in three. Then things will get real interesting.
Can you see MT with a rookie QB? LOL.

It's anyones guess and in my own opinion I would say there problem stems from the top down. Al Davis and company. Ownership and too many coaches have cause issues with the Raiders progression.

Horrible drafting is a big culprit, people complain about ours, go check out their picks over the years, very entertaining.

Replacing superstars is very difficult. Anyone not think that New England is starting to experience that difficulty? Once the high paid stars start their decline, you either have new hungry guys that pick up the slack.... or you have guys that are their for the ride with no drive. Like it or not, use whatever cliche you want, but in my opinion we are in rebuilding mode with no clear indication which direction we will move next (up, down, sideways). It can happen to any team, NO I don't think we ever become the Raiders but theirs no denying that we are experiencing some changing of the guard issues at various positions.

The raiders big free agency signing spree reminds me of the skins attempt to sign every old star they could find in FA, it failed for them and it has so far failed for the raiders, and add to their problems their signing of Matt Schaub who everyone knows was washed up when they signed him; Now they have to find a new head coach and any good experienced coach knows with the present management, this team is kryptonite...

I actually think the Patriots are in a downward spiral. Not because of talent because we have all seen that Bill can make any player pretty darn good. They do not need alot of talent to have a successful team.

I'm not worried about this happening to the Steelers the Raiders are clueless about how to build a winner.

There are 22 owners listed for the Steelers. One of them being John Stallworth. My thoughts is it isn't about the Rooney's having control but all the owners understanding the team's past glory and respect... and doing things right to continue that tradition.

I have no doubt in the Steeler's Org. to continue it.

I don't see them going the raider route as far as ownership/management goes, but the ****ty play and the penalties suggest our players are trying to wield us there hahahaha

I'd LOVE to see the Pats suffer a downward spiral, but I don't see it happening. In fact, I bet they beat the Bungles Sunday and all of the "Brady's washed up" talk will come to a sudden halt.

I think they will beat Cincy too but the washed up talk wont cease, with every loss, the talk will be there and they will lose about 6 or 7 games this year.
