Hey you might be right about the D Line coach, I have no idea. But even if that is so, it is ultimately LeBeau and Tomlin's job to either get the right guy in the job or let the coach and line know what technique they want.

Also you harp on the D Line a lot, and I agree that the D Line is not the second coming of the 2008 Giants D Line. But the outside linebackers are getting no pressure either, the inside linebackers early in the year were missing a lot of gaps on running plays, and the secondary just isn't good (which I understand has something to do w/the pass rush...i.e. you can't expect a corner, especially our corners to cover for 4 seconds).

But here's the thing. We play a 3 man front and rely largely on the moves of our OL to get to the QB. But the game has changed - everybody is using a quicker passing game and getting ball out quick. With that in mind you need to make the pocket collapse and make it collapse quickly so you can disrupt the timing of the QB. You can criticize the D Line for that, but we don't really play a system that allows for that kind of play. So maybe it has more to do w/scheme. In the past, guys like Hampton would hold one or two blockers and our linebackers would get to the QB. Now the ball is out so quick the OL have no time to get to the QB and with our corners playing little to no bumping of the receivers it gets pretty easy for a receiver to get into his route and get open. If you look at sacks and tackles for the Steelers' D Line over the past two seasons it rivals or even surpasses what we had in 2009 and 2010.

So once again, I still think you can heap a fair amount of blame on LeBeau and Tomlin for not adjusting to the way the league has been moving in recent years.

this team is extremely undisciplined. 6 personnel foul penalties yesterday. i feel like im watching the Raiders play.

Tomlin needs to get this team back to the basics or he wont be there much longer. another 8-8 year might just do it.

He needs to get his players under control. And not just for 1 game either.

The head coach is directly responsible for his position coaches, when you fire a head coach his replacement brings in coaches he wants to work for him, or keep some coaches already here he thinks are doing a good job, a new head coaching regime is sometimes the best answer for a team that's under performing, so, dont discount firing a head coach who has become stale and no longer can get the best out of his players:

I heard tomlin use the same excuse he used the last time we lost, penalties cost us this game, thats just not true, the bucs had 9 penalties and were just more disciplined enough to stay away from the personal fouls, and penalties had nothing to do with that last 1 minute when we kicked a short 29 yard punt to give them a short field and then let the bucs receivers run wild and score the game winner from a QB who only had 5 starts...

Looking at that penalty list, I think Beachum and Gilbert need to hold more. Better that then getting Ben killed. (Can't change to green font on my cell phone)

You mean the 1-3 garbage saints , they're average now too, they had their run.

I guess with this loss the parade is cancelled? I told you guys they did the same thing a couple of seasons back with the Cheats, Steelers owned them, then went back to crap.

Yeah, because 4 games into a season defines a team.

There are only 8 teams in the league with 3 wins
    14 with 2 wins
    8 teams with 1 win
    2 teams with 0 wins

I guess except for those 8 teams, everyone is garbage. Or, maybe parity is more likely the answer and its still early in the season.

We'll see where all these teams finish.

I honestly think we're gonna finish 8-8. That's just a feeling I have. We've played Good, Bad, Good, Bad and if that's gonna be the pattern we will be looking at 8-8 at best. It pains me to say that but Edmund Nelson said it as well from the very start of the season so it's not like it's a stretch to say it. I think Cincy takes the division again and then loses in the 1st rd. Again.

If these were all new problems then I'd say let the season play out and see what happens. But seeing the same problems year after year with no changes and trite slogans in the post-game press conferences leads me to believe that we're in for more of the same. It looks a lot like what the Pens went through with the last years of Bylsma's tenure.

Maybe the Steelers will get to their game.

When Lebeau retires it'll be the first major step, since the team is too loyal it'll be up to DL when he goes, and he can take Tomlin with him, MT is shooting himself in the foot by keeping DL around for too long.

Part of me has always wondered if Tomlin would really have any say in getting rid of LeBeau. It doesn't seem like he had much input on getting rid of Arians. I still think this is a big reason why the team has no real identity because Tomlin may not be allowed to truly make his mark on the team and is viewed as more of a care-taker. OR the Rooneys were hoping he would make his mark and he has been clue-less so they help steer the ship.

By the way - that dog in the pic looks pretty tough, I would rather have him roaming out there as our free safety as opposed to Mike Mitchell.

It's not just the Steelers. Do you people actually pay attention to what is going on in the league? SF with Harbough at the helm is the most penalized team in the NFL. Patriots are up there too.

I'm surprised more people haven't realized this, penalties are up dramatically, I mean come on, how many of those unsportsmanlike penalties would have been called last season? Probably only AB's. There will be an adjustment period until players get a feel for how games are being called, then the penalties will die down.

We were the 4th least penalized team in the league in 2013, but this is all Tomlin's fault because he doesn't have control over his players.

Yes, and his players don't respect him and he went 8-4 to finish last season because of Cowhers players :lolol:

I don't care about San Francisco or the Patriots. If they lost every single game, that would be fine by me.

I'll give you this, even in pre-season they said the league normally averages 11 calls per game, this pre season the average went up to 18 calls per game. The refs need to loosen up and let them play football!!

For me it's more about the penalties and the outcome of a game. 115 yards of penalties in a 27-24 game could have been the difference between a win and a loss.

Don't give a rats hinny about other teams. We are Steeler fans and we care about our team.

I understand your sentiment. However, these penalties have far more to do with the refs than anything the players or Tomlin is doing(or not doing). Ignoring a league wide trend and blaming Tomlin is just asinine.
