First of all we have serious problems with Zone scheme run blocking, it appears to me the Panthers run a lot of man. Advantage Steelers.

Next we always have trouble with pre snap QB'S . I don't see Cam as a great x and o guy we might be able to confuse him with different looks. Advantage Steelers.

Another area is the Panthers WR group they are not exactly all world so we should be able to cover them better than a lot of other groups in the NFL .

I know a lot don't like Mitchell ,but he should have a huge advantage in knowing what Cam does well and what he don't hopefully with the extra practice time our guys can exploit this to our advantage.

It also seems we took to much time off in the preseason and we should be rounding into season starting shape after 2 games.Coming off the pounding they took from the Ravens this should be a statement game.

I am going to the game so I needed to get a positive spin on it and our D after I started thinking about it and watching the Panthers play I have confidence this should be our D'S best performance to date ....

I'm not sure what you have seen from the Steelers defense the last two weeks, that would make you think that they would be advantage against anybody.
But, I think Cam Newton is not 100% healthy, but he is still an excellent QB and a dangerous threat when he has a ball in his hands. The receiving corps for the Panthers is young with a few vets like Cotchery. Decent TE in Olson. They have a few talented RB's in Williams and Stewart.
But, what scares me more about them is their defense, one of the better ones in the NFL. Luke Kutchley is one of the best if not the best ILB in the NFL look for him to shadow Levon Bell all over the field.

Me personally I don't like this matchup for our D. Just remembering what Terrell Pryor did to us last year should be a reminder of what Newton could do. They have two good RB's and they drafted WR Kelvin Benjamin who is playing like a stud. I think our D will struggle again.

The Lions have a lot better front 7 push than we have, the panther Oline kept them out of cams face, what makes you think our front 7 that already has a hard time pushing a volkswagen, is all of a sudden going to dominate the line of scrimmage, this game could easily highlight total domination on both sides of the ball by the panthers, may as well look at reality instead of dreaming about a new rebuilt steeler team rebirth in 10 days........

Didn't say we could dominate the LOS. I said we can stop Man blocking better than zone blocking, that is a fact. Cam is a guy who can be fooled , that's a fact as well . Plus the RB'S are banged up as well as their QB. So maybe not a total rebuilt D ,but a D that can play a lot better than what we have seen so far.

Since we are talking about former players being helpful, Cotchery plays for the Panthers now so Im sure he will be giving his input as well.

I usually value and agree with your opinion, PWP, but to me this game just looks awful on paper.

The Steleers generally don't do well with running QBs. He's arguably the best running QB in the league. The Detroit front 7 had a tough go of it, and I think everyone would agree that theirs is superior to Pittsburgh's. Finally, the Panthers defense is GOOD. This team was pushed around by Baltimore (and a lesser extent Cleveland). I can't imagine they will suddenly have the answer this week.
Trust me, I hope I am wrong and your analysis is spot on. But, I'm not going to be holding my breath.

I am in North Carolina and had to have my coumiden levels checked at the Veterans Administration today. A guy brought his dad in and his levels were way out of whack. I was issued my own machine (I check it every week) but am required to be seen at the VA once every six weeks. So I tell this guy and his dad about the machine. They thank me and the guys daughter (abt 4 years old) climbs up beside me and ask if I heard the choo choo train earlier, which I did and tole her I was from Pittsburgh and always lived around trains. Her dad says hey, you guys ready for the spanking you're getting Sunday night? His daughter said Hush daddy, he's my friend! I had already had my blood checked so I hugged the little girl and stood. Said out of the mouths of babes. The guy and his dad laughed and said good luck! and thanks for the info on the coumiden checking machine.

I agree with PWP on the running scheme. Our 2 gap scheme gets beat often by zone blocking, but should be more stout by design against man blocking. If indeed Carolina runs a man scheme, that's very helpful for us. That said, I'm not sure that I like every aspect of this matchup. We have been horrid against TEs, and Olsen is a good receiving TE. I also see us having trouble getting to Cam.

Benji is going to be bankrollin the STEELERS all game

showing us what a GOOD TALL RECEIVER IS ALL ABOUT.

hell that three pronged attack at running back mixed in with Cam is going to [prove once and for all
our dl sucks and DL is out coached
I see Newton throwing for 350 yds

    you see

the Panthers will game plan for us
they will change what we think they will do
    so there.

The question is why are we running the 2 gap when it's not effective. What happened to Lebeau saying last year that he was going to have our guys play one gap and get after the passer more often? Are we incapable of that with our players style and talent level? I would say it would be more advantageous for us. We seem to have more athleticism on the line than we do stout run stoppers. Why can't we change and adapt to the running attack we are facing each week? Or at least mix it up. This is the stuff that infuriates me and the same reason why we are so predictable and getting run-over. SMH.
