So true Cam Thomas and Mike Mitchell both have been bad so far. And Gilbert, Cortez Allen got contract extensions before the season their play is below average so far. The Steelers spent 137 million this offseason

Ah yes, Alan Robinson, he doesn't miss many opportunities to take a shot at the Steelers.

He's telling the truth though. The Steelers missed 16 tackles against the Ravens, Timmons 5 Cortez 3 Troy 2 Mitchell 2 Shazier 2 and those missed tackles gave the Ravens 93 more yards of offense.

Bias doesn't matter if it's true though

Yep, it's true, and while I don't think Thomas will pan out, the rest I think will, but as Robinson himself pointed out (yet still felt the need to write the article) it's only been 2 games. Lets see how those investments are doing after a full season.

Really our ROI for the last several seasons has been insufficient. Just glad Steeler players aren't part of my 401k right now.

I remember Ryan Clark's first year here. He was pretty bad and everyone on the old message board was ready to throw him under the bus so I'll reserve judgement on Mitchell as he has shown what he's capable of. My one concern with Mitchell is that Carolina's front seven made their secondary better than what they really are. From what I've read on Cam Thomas he has been pretty mediocre his entire career so I don't know what the steelers saw in him.

Yes, and we need our front 7 to do the same thing.

As for Thomas, Tuitt will be starting before long.

I can only hope that Tuitt is starting before long!

So say you own the team, and it is your money
being spent, don't you want some bang for your buck?I hope we see some personnel changes this week, we have got to play better.

Personnel changes don't equate with changes for the better.

I'd like to see Tuitt playing, and I want to see more of McCullers - but they'll still make mistakes. The question is not really about individuals, for me, it's about whether the rest of the defence (or offense) can support a new player coming in so that they can perform well.

I remember two seasons back posting here that we should put Golden in at safety, because anything had to be better than what we had on the field (I think it was Will Allen at the time). They did put Golden in, and... there was pretty much no change. Since then, I've stopped being so eager to plug new guys in. What we need is consistency, more than anything else.

Thigpen82 your last line is completely correct. The biggest issue is we are so young on defense that I don't think you will see that consistency until the 2nd half of the season. We need the offense to carry the defense until they get up to speed. Thursday night started off well but in today's NFL you need to create turnovers and not give the ball away, especially inside the red zone. Right now we turn it over way too much and can't seem to get a turnover ourselves.

Yep - it used to be the defense that stayed solid, and the offense that took it's time to make plays. We can see that the offense is a much better unit than the defense when it's clicking - so we need the consistency to come from the offense first, while the defense gets itself sorted out.

Been watching a lot of NFL rewind and it is obvious to me that both Mitchell and Troy like to hit . To me they have to much space to cover to be effective. I think coach DL will see this common thread from the 2 games as well ...With the problems we have stopping the run and making tackles in space we might as well get them in the box to disrupt the run and maybe just maybe get some heat on the QB .

Of course this will mean risking the big play , but with the Offense we have it might not be a bad ideal to just play super aggressive . Get the other Team off the field and get our O back on the field the big plays on D won't come unless we force them to come .

After watching most of the NFL games the Teams who are getting pressure and creating turnovers are doing it wit A gap pressure mostly. We need Troy ,Mitchell, and Timmons blitzing that gap 2 of those 3 need to be coming on every play shorter than 15 yards .
