Two 8-8 seasons, pretty much defined as average in the league. The average number of points scored in week 1 was about 23. Over two games, our defense has allowed a little more than that, making them a little below average. Our offense, however, has scored way below average over two games, making them far below average. I know many on this board think Lebeau needs to go, and that may be true, but what really sucks is our offense. This has become an offense oriented league, and the new rules have crippled defense, and emphasized high scoring, and we don't do that. If the offense were fixed, I think our defense, though highly flawed and in transition, would be good enough.

Much season to go, so I hope things get fixed and we do not continue to be average, or "turrible", to quote Charles Barkley.

Our defensive line is terrible. Mostly everyone else is above average. You CANNOT play solid defense with a terrible defensive line. And we have one, so we cannot play defense.

Our Offense has had problems for 1 1/2 games. Our D has had problems 2 games this season, and at least 12 games last season.
Yes, our offense needs to get better, you won't win many games scoring 6 points. But it's hard to think you are going to win many games when you allow 150+yds rushing, without creating turnovers.

Trivia Question: when was the last season we had 16, ints, 48 sacks and 16 fumbles recovered by our defense?

Well WWW, the defense played very well in the fist quarter of the Browns game. So both O and D are 0.5/2 for the year.

Imagine the disaster this would be without the first half against the lowly Browns. Yikes. Lucky to be 1-1.

But that first half against the Browns proves that we CAN at least score points...

    Good one!
Bottom line: both units have to do better and both units have issues. Important issues to fix.
A great team usually has bad games too. And a great team finds ways to win them: if your D has a bad game, your offense steps up. If it's your O which is struggling, your D makes some plays.
That's why we need a improvement from both: we never know when our O or D are going to struggle, and they can't happen in the same game.

Teams that are around 4-12 or 5-11 for a couple of years. Too early to tell this season.

Our offense has had problems for years. We haven't ranked higher than 16th in scoring since 2010 when we were 12th. Over the years we've had way more trouble scoring than a team with Ben at QB should.

Our team is hard to watch, and not
    too entertaining.

In today's league, a defense can no longer carry a team tat has a poor offense. Rules favor offense way too much. I do give the defense credit for not allowing a TD after that terrible interception Ben gifted to the Rats. 3 turnovers by the offense and several drives that went nowhere giving the other team good field position all lead to defense struggles more than they actually do. Yes there are issues on defense, but to win in this league, the two sides need to compliment each other. In the browns game, when the offense was working the defense clicked. Second half the offense did nothing and the defense really struggled (yes they struggled regardless but the offense never answered a drive). In the Ravens game, it is not like Flacco had a career game. We went three and out at the most critical drive. Basically, both sides need to step it up.

I don't think this team is terrible either, but it certainly not more than average.

I didnt understand the level of optimism of some of the fan base coming into this year, and definitely didn't understand the confidence of those who were sure they'd beat the Ravens.

The offense should be better, but every year it has long stretches of futility. No huddle is nice, but it puts pressure on YOUR defense too. And this D probably can't stand extra pressure.

For the Steelers to have a big year lots of young players are going to have to emerge. Right now the jury is still out on a lot of them.

This is is still a team that can beat anyone at home, and lose to anyone on the road. Just like lots of teams in the middle of the NFL pack.

Its ts still early, things can get better. But 7-9, 8-8, 9-7 looks about right. Not terrible, but terribly average.

On Sports Nation today, 78% said they are a bad football team.

Hard to dispute that with the way they are performing.
