As was already mentioned, I think the CBA has the NFL's hands tied at this moment. Because of this, I bet the league office will lean on the Ravens hard to suspend him on their own, because they (the league office) can't do anything about it now. While we all agree that it was reprehensible for what Rice did, there were never any files charged against Rice (probably because she knew she'd get more $$ staying with him) (see also: Bryant, Vanessa). Will the NFL now be the judge/jury/executioner even if the legal system doesn't move forward cough:Roethlisberger:cough ?

I've read that too...about the CBA...but I really think that Goodell should just do it anyway and let the chips fall where they may. Really who is going to fight for Rice at this point? Anyone, the union, the Ravens, Rice himself, anyone who contests additional punishment is going to have a MASSIVE PR problem on their hands and look like complete ****.

The union will absolutely fight any additional punishment because that's their mandate. If the union doesn't defend him, they can and will be sued, and they will lose. The NFLPA will absolutely defend him regardless of their personal feelings towards him. They simply have no choice

That is basically what was aid on ESPN earlier in a show i was watching. Yes technically it would be considered double jeopardy, but like they said. Who is going to fight this for Rice. Anyone who stands up for this man will look like a total ass. Hopefully the Ravens do the right thing for once and can the worthless piece of trash! WOOOOO this has my blood pressure up today!

You're right. Im just fired up. I do think that there may be some additional punishment coming though. Like I wrote earlier, I think that denying that they knew about the video may give them an out and the ability to increase the punishment.

Time for the Ravens to step up and be a stand up organization and do the right thing. I would cut him personally, let the world know that you don't stand up for this type of thing.. But something tells me they aren't going to do that. Really hope I'm wrong and they do something!

Listen, I think it's despicable what Rice did. I hope he's cut and I hope he never plays again, but I don't understand all the criticism toward the Ravens for keeping him on the team (something that may still be undecided). We have had players on our team that beat their wives and we didn't cut them. I bet every team in the league has had a player beat up a woman. Now I understand that this one is getting so much press because there's a video, but hitting a woman is hitting a woman, video or not.

I heard the double jeopardy idea suggested earlier on the radio, and I have to say- this isn't a court of law. This is the NFL, and Roger Goodell has ultimate authority on conduct policy discipline. There's no clause in the CBA explicitly preventing him from amending his discipline.

Now that Im home and can see this on something bigger than my phone, he spits on her TWICE. All of the Rice apologists are saying that she hit him first outside of the elevator, but that was in response to him spitting on her. Then at the :25 mark of the video, once they are inside the elevator he spits on her again and thats when she turns to confront him and take the first slap...which causes her to come toward him again where he give her the left cross.

I hope that's the case. We'll see. He might get picked up next year, but doubt any team touches him this year.

What I can't believe is that the police viewed that video and didn't put his ass in jail. I gotta say, if that happened here in Canada, that ****er would be in jail, no doubt about it. You cannot knock someone out cold and not go to jail, especially a woman. I thought you guys always had stiffer penalties down there, but I guess money talks. Money talks up here too of course, just not as much, and not when there's video proof of a brutal assault.

NBC announced at 2:23 pm that the Ravens have let Rice go. I just got a headline so far with story pending. Sorry not to have full details, folks.

They'll reinstate him eventually. Not sure a team will pick him up though, although if Michael Vick can get a fresh start, I would think anyone can

Definitely had to be some shady things going on in our legal system on this one. Money had to have been exchanged in some form. I'm a huge dog lover and have hated what Michael Vick did for all these years... But he goes to jail for running an illegal dog gambling scheme and hurting innocent animals.. But ray rice could have killed his wife as strong as he is and as hard as he hit her.. And he gets a slap on the wrist.. Until the video came out..

Now here's the thing...truthfully, when did the Ravens and the NFL see the video? My gut says they saw it along time ago, dropped the ball, and are covering their collective asses trying to make a wrong a right. Goodell still needs for his nuts to be on the chopping block.

We'll never know. It's possible they were just incompetent rather than engaged in a cover up. I just can't imagine the team and league viewing that video and then handing out only a 2 game suspension. I just have a hard time believing they could justify that to themselves. I have to believe they were simply incompetent

Me too. With all of the NFL's might, and the vast security staffs of former FBI and police personnel, I have a hard time buying that they didn't see it. They can find out who a prospect dated in high school, but can't get access to this video and TMZ could? Sure...

The only way this makes sense is if someone told them (League Office and Ravens) that this video would never see the light of day. If they were guaranteed that copies of the video were destroyed, who would be the wiser? Obviously someone made a copy of it that they didn't know about, and got a nice payday from TMZ for it.

Roger Goodell destroying video evidence? Nah. :roflmao:

Kidding aside, something clearly doesn't add up. Like this article says, the repetitive gist was that the video showed that she was as much to blame as he.

    http://deadspin.com/someone-is-lyin...source=deadspin_twitter&utm_medium=socialflow

It's very plausible that they felt the video wouldn't be released, and that if it ever did see the light of day, they would simply just issue a release stating that they hadn't seen the video.

You have to wonder though- what the actual hell is going on with the Baltimore PD and DA's office? They see that and don't have him making license plates?

If it was any of us, that's where we would be right now.. And rightfully so! But you have to wonder if money exchanged hands into some powerful figureheads in both the PD and DA offices. There's a reason he got off so easily, and why this video was kept under wraps.

The legal system in the US is corrupt, just like in Canada, but not corrupt in that people are taking bribes. It's corrupt in the sense that high priced lawyers are friends with judges. They all wine and dine judges and in return they get favours in their cases. Lawyers shop around for a judge they have a personal relationship with and one who will give them a break. Why judge shopping is allowed is beyond me (actually it's technically not, but it happens). Athletes can afford high priced lawyers who have personal relationships with judges. Joe blow off the street can't afford such lawyers and as a result, he goes to jail for the same thing Ray Rice doesn't go to jail for.

Not really a bribe, but no less corrupt
