Just now watching the game on NFL replay and I have to give props to the fans, even though there were probably 15,000 empty seats. This is during the first home PRESEASON game! Chants of DEFENSE DEFENSE as soon as the unit steps on the field after the Landry pick.

Defensive goal line stand and fans are loud as can be. They go nuts when its successful.

I notice there are alot of kids in the stands due to it being a preseason game. There just seems to be a bunch of excitement which brings me to my point.

Sometimes the regular season ticket holders can't seem to raise that level of noise. Is it because its a Saturday night vs. a 1 pm Sunday Game? A bit of achohol may play a factor towards the decibal level.

It would be nice if the regular season holds the same fan vocal intensity.

    Anybody else notice this?

I know the noise escapes Heinz easily but the team needs very loud fan support. I remember the bleachers at TRS used to physically shake and opposing offenses had difficulty handling it.

The Steelers need that intesity all season every season at Heinz field.

Any season ticket holder out there agree/disagree with me. Like to hear your thoughts.

i flew up from florida for the game last night .. i know ..i know.. its preseason but its still STEELERS FB ... and considering the place was half empty it was still pretty loud at times... there were a ton of kids there last night .. i mean a ton... it looked like a kids night at applebees... but it was funny the kids were really into the game... ben looked good .. landry jones makes me miss charlie batch .. id rather have charlie to had it off at age 44 or whatever he is than landry jones.. cant throw.. cant hold onto the ball.. cant fire the time up.. the team goes flat when he steps onto the field.. you can just see the guys hang their heads like to say oh F me landry is coming in .. forget harrison and da beard lets get CB back.. remember charlie won 3 of the 4 games ben was suspended... with the 2 guys we have as backups we have no shot.. i remember a couple years ago Grad beat the bengals as a back up starter but hes gotten worse.. not better.. of course im kidding about charlie ( i guess) but he knew how a 2nd stringer was supposed to work a game.. hang in there and keep it close .. hand it off and let the D keep us in the game . of course thats when we won games 10-9 and 14-13 ... now in this NEW league you have to put up points and thats not landry.. he woud be great if we had 8 foot receivers.. never seen a guy overthrow consistently and the team just goes flat when he comes into the game ..

I dont know how anyone can give an honest evaluation of Landry Jones's talent based on what we have seen in very limited time over 6 pre season games with mostly 2nd 3rd 4th stringers. The kid obviously has talent or else he wouldnt be on the roster. He isnt going to take Ben's job until Ben either gets hurt or quits. In all fairness, Landry is developing on a schedule that the coaches are taking him on. They are not grooming him to take Ben's job now, or probably not even next year, but the development over time is where we will reap the benefits. Look at Steve Young behind Montana or Aaron Rodgers behind Favre. I am not comparing Jones to these guys but the timeline could benefit us and allow Landry to make strides and mature into a good/decent/great QB. The future holds the answers and for us to call him a bust is insane.Give the kid a chance to grow and learn at the NFL level and who knows, we may be pleasantly surprised someday.

I give my preseason tickets away and I aim for kids and families who otherwise couldn't afford to go. They are excited to be there and they show it. I think a lot of people and companies do the same thing with preseason tickets.

Now for regular season games, I go, and even at my age I'm still quite vocal. But I sit in club seats surrounded by people who got their tickets from this company or that. These people don't watch half the game let alone chear. It's somewhat disgusting.

my boys went to kennywood all day and the game that night with our tickets. the preseason is just that and it's hard to get that emotion up there to scream about when the team isn't giving you much to scream about. I know usually by halftime I can't hardly talk anymore let alone yell later in the game but I still try too. it just doesn't come out at that point. night game also allow people to drink a lot before the game even starts and by the end they are so drunk they either pass out or go wild. I hate going to night games because of it. yea we can't smoke a cigarette in the stadium but they can get so drunk they puke all over themselves, but that's a different story.

Having been a Steelers fan all my life, but never having been to home game until the year after Super Bowl XL (a disappointing year, but much easier to score cheap tickets), my first home game was against the Buccaneers sitting in row B of the club seats (at the time, the Steelers still had a mathematical chance of making the playoffs). I figured getting a good deal on club seats was great since the tickets were more expensive. I had the same observation that it felt like polite applause every now and again was most of what you could expect. I got a single club seat later for the playoff game against the Chargers in the run-up to Super Bowl XLIII, and was all 'geared up' but felt somewhat out of place. Anyone who supports the team (even in their own, quiet, disconnected way) is fine by me, but this is FOOTBALL, not opera. I just can't personally imagine being at a game and not wanting to shout throughout. I sat in Club seats at a Seahawks game when the Ravens came to town (I'm in Washington state), and it's loud everywhere there (my custom Steelers ring got some interesting looks....). That stadium rocks in the preseason throughout regardless of the score

But, to the original post, I had the same feeling that it was nice to hear the crowd getting into the game, even though that's probably human nature when the score is close (I've seen other preseason games when you couldn't even tell there were people watching it). When I look for tickets now, I typically look for lower seats if I can get them....perspective might not be as great as the upper section, but the fans are definitely into the game and you somehow feel more a part of what's going on. Looking forward to opening day!!!!!!
