I've always liked our chances with our backups going back as long as I can remember but Grad is the worst #2 I can remember. The drop off from Ben to Grad is going to cause me sleep loss and maybe a Dr visit. My biggest take away from this first game is Get Grad Gone. He was lost.

Yep. He looked pretty bad but in all fairness the Oline still looks like it's a disaster. I hope Haley can mix it up with the playcalling or Ben will running for his life all season long again.

It was his first game action since last preseason, I'm more then confident they can get by for couple games with him. If you're talking long term, they are screwed whether it's Grad, Jones, Batch or Lefty or any other backup QB they have had over the years. This team goes as far as Ben goes.

Grad is serviceable. He can move when our line eats crap which is a far better upgrade in that sense alone than batch or lefty. He'll take a shot to deliver the ball etc... He made a fine pass to Wheaton and slipped up on the seem route to Spaeth. They'll get it dialed in and I am fine with Grad backing up Ben.

However, ain't nobody gonna do Jack if the left side continues to leave the door open. Ben ain't getting any spryer so it's time to shore that up. Beech will handle it fine, Foster is more of a concern but he usually mans up. Adams experiment is over... He's the new bust and needs to go. He's got the talent but he ain't got the sand and he's gonna get someone hurt!

im rooting for a good year... No serious injuries and we'll be solid.

He looked rusty in the first game...I'm not concerned. He looked decent last preseason. He's a solid backup and has been for numerous times. Nothing to see here...

Bad games happen, especially in week 1 of the preseason. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

He is not Charlie Batch for sure, but as close as the Steelers are to the salary cap, they just have to put all their stock in to Ben, hope he stays healthy, and not pay (a premium) for back up QB's.

If Ben goes down..........so does our season. The Steelers had better get a veteran free agent Quick!

You can say this about any teams starting QB. Their are only 32 of them, and not all of them are even starter worthy. We should appreciate Ben that much more for what he's done/capable of. How many games would we have won the past 3 years with a Ryan Fitzpatrick? Let's hope Ben stays upright, and that Adams doesn't sniff the field!

As long ad we have Ben, we got a shot! Live it, learn it, love it now cuz the time is coming when you will.

Grad looked like he had no business being out there, no rhythm, no arm. The drop off in talent so apparent it looked silly. Stunned.
L Jones looked like what he is, a big time college QB, that has the arm but has never played a game at this level. The plus? This, maybe coach-able.

Like I said somewhere else, I'm not sure how you evaluate either of these QBs based on what you saw last night. Neither is a running QB and the OLine they both played behind required they be a sprinter. I honestly would need to see them with the first team line and support to know who is actually the better player, because at this point....I'm not convinced.

Thats the attitude fans take away from a game too often: It's only one game so dont worry about it, then we lose the season opener and fans say it's only one game we still have 15 games to go, then we lose again and again and fans say we can still make the playoffs if 4 teams lose out and we win out and this happens and that happens and blah blah blah, and when you look back over the season it all started with ( it's only one game)

I agree with pretty much everything you've said dobbler. I can't remember for sure but didn't Grad play most of his snaps with the #2 o line? I would think he'd look a lot better behind the #1's. I'm not all that worried about him at this point. Our backup left side though.......Adams and Hubbard....makes me very concerned.

Hubbard was a turnstyle. Gradkowski was visibly angry at times because of it.

I saw other backups playing behind #2s this week and scoring points, like Painter went in at the end of the game and drove the ball 80 yards for a score behind 2s and 3s, and remember grad was playing against a #2 and 3 defense and he still stunk up the place....

I'm worried about our backup quarterback situation. Grad didn't play that well last year during preseason. And I'll give him
its the first preseason game but I remember BAtch doing better with second teamers. It seems he is always throwing off
his back foot or falling backwards. For a veteran, he should know better. And what he's shown so far, how did we lose to this guy.
The front office is looking worst and worst for drafting Landry jones. I hope he improves but for giving up a draft pick or moving up to get him was not worth it. So far.

    I noticed that too.

Painter is a better back up than Grad (imo), but Grad was pretty much having to scramble the minute he got the ball in his hands.

I did wonder if, on the play where he picked up some yards by running, there wasn't a pass on - there were 2 receivers in front of him who seemed open-ish. That said, I also thought that both receivers could have done a better job picking up blocks when he did take off to run.

Grad has always been a streaky passer, part of the reason he's a journeyman backup QB.

Pretty much sums it up imo. I also would lay blame on Adams as well. The backup left side to me looked pretty bad.

I don't know how people have a problem with Adams that game, no sacks no hurries, as far as Im concerned, it confirms what I suspected, reports out of camp were overblown. See if he does well next week too.
