we are hearing good things about cam Thomas at two positions. we are hearing what a good camp tuitt is having. McCullers is getting some good press and is getting a lot of work. arnfelt and Mauro and hemmer are said to be doing well and that arnfelt understands the defense probably at a faster rate than most new DE's here. is there any chance that mclendon doesn't make it?

he was limited last year. he barely saw the field the last year casey was here (2012) even after all the hype of him seeing time that year and it just never materialized for some reason.

this is something I never dreamed would happen, but thinking about all his time missed and never really getting a lot of playing time on tape the last couple of years, could this be the surprise cut or trade?

    I'm with Lebowski on this.

Mclendon has a lot of potential.

I don't see it happening, they're still thin on the D-line.

You need pre-season to start bad!

I echo everyone else's sentiments here.

    Cut? No way!
    Moved to DE? Possible !
More than likely he's still the starter at NT. If Cam Thomas or one of the others can beat him out for the starting spot so be it, but I don't see it happening.

all I know is Woodley got let go and he's done a lot more than big mac has. we also have 2 first round picks at DE and a guy in the middle the last few days that is having a very good camp and has more field time on his resume than mclendon. not to mention one of the biggest rookies in the league and another backup at NT. mac has made one partial season and some may question how good that season was. what has he done that makes him so indispensable?

Maybe because he is better then all those guys

I could say the same thing about Beachum, hardly lit the league on fire last year but still better then anything behind him.

Woodley was a cap casualty and oft injured DE. They obviously like Mac considering how fast they moved to sign him after the Bears made a play for him. Theres zero chance of him being cut.

My opinion and what I know the Steelers will do are two different things.
I'd like to see better play out of the NT position this year. Will McLendon play better? Heck I don't know. I'd love to see your scenario Mac. I'm not a big fan of McLendon, but I am a big fan of the Steelers and if they think he's the best option at NT then I guess I'll have to live with it and root for the guy!

Thomas was back at end today. The biggest rookie in the league has some warts...he's by no means a roster lock. Thomas is most likely Al Woods 2.0, and I don't mean that in a bad way. I don't see the Woodley McLendon comparison at all. Why do you want him cut, Mac? He's a solid player coming into his second year at starter, on a line with little true depth.

whoa, I never said I wanted him cut. I'm just saying he's not been what they have hoped for so far. cam Thomas has been getting pretty good reviews in camp so far. we have DE's that seem capable too. fangupo has been playing fairly well too. I know McCullers isn't ready to start but he is getting a lot of work and making it count from what I have read. they just need him coming off the ball quicker. maybe mac is better than the rest but he hasn't shown much of that so far. if your not on the field it doesn't matter if he's better or not. I'm just putting it out there as a discussion.

Gotcha. I think we as fans get too caught up in the reports out of camp. You were one of his bigger supporters last year, so I was just surprised to see you suggesting it. I think it's extremely unlikely personally.

They can take as long as they want bringing him back, because he's an entrenched starter.

Cam Thomas is a stop-gap plug. McCullers is the one with potential, but he's probably years from reaching it. (Although I really hope he gets activated this year so we can see him on the goal line.) All those other guys have about as much chance of affecting McLendon's spot on the team as Lew Toler has affecting Troy Polamalu's.

mac, I think you should go to sleep and wake up when the game starts. :)

Agree with you man. Mclendon is nothing special I have honestly never understood the hype. If Thomas is outplaying him and the rook Tuitt is impressing either move him to DE or cut him loose.

Who said or even implied Cam Thomas has played better than Steve McLendon? I doubt it ever happened in camp, and I know it never happened on an NFL field.

Woodley was killing us financially and couldn't stay on the field for multiple seasons, and had Jason Worilds breathing down his neck. None of those things apply to McLendon.

I think it has been reported that he has a concussion, How's come Hayward-Bey isn't talked about being cut. He too is concussed?

I think there's been a fair amount of discussion about this, though probably before the concussion report came out (rather, simply if he was good enough or not).

While I think Mclendon is probably a lock for this team, I'm curious about Fangupo. He's been here a full year + now, and I thought for sure he would have gotten some playing time by now. He's almost a direct clone of Casey Hampton, but why can't he even crack the lineup? If they really have no intention of playing him, they should probably just cut him to make room for someone else. His roster space, particularly on the 53, was puzzling to me last year.

The problem with the NT now, is that whom ever played it last year didn't require a double team. We need that NT to get doubled by the OC and OG ,thats what made Big Snacksss..lol.. teams could not move him. Maybe Mclendon added some McFatten:lolol: on this year to make teams double him.....I've never seen Fangupo play...but as for McCullers, this kid is a monster, could be something special down the road...Fingers crossed...

actually I think I read mac has lost weight. it doesn't always have to be a big fat guy to demand a double team. a guy with quickness can also demand a double team when he's beating the center. I'm pretty sure that's what mclendon is after, a little more quickness. it's also what may be holding McCullers back some, lack of quickness.

snack, from what I've read, cam Thomas is playing very well in camp. at both spots. now nothing was said that he is outplaying mac, but I've never heard the comparison to each other so far. I guess my thoughts were lack of playing time the last couple of years when he's been highly talked about by the coaches, only to not see it come to fruition.

for Thomas to be on the field that means tuitt isn't. I think they are seeing better DE play in camp then they first thought, so it seems kind of important for the other guy that's been highly talked about (Thomas) to be a threat to mac'a position if mac can't stay out there.

for a good part of a year and nearly a week of camp this year he's not been available. I don't think it's out of the question, to question how the team feels about that. especially since the others are playing well. when you miss a lot of practice and game time, you can't be considered a must have unless you have nobody else. that's not really the case here. that's all, just merely a discussion.
