For those who were high on drafting Fuller I am a little uninspired by the way he is basically thrown like a rag doll by Bennett. Top be fair he wasn't looking for a fight and Bennett was so maybe a different story had he been ready. I am sure that the Bears front office didn't want to see their number one pick being dropped on his head and Bennett's suspension and fine were appropriate. In any case yikes!

Edit: It would help if I named the guy correctly. Kyle Fuller

Thats not a pile drive and as you said, Fuller probably wasn't expecting that but even if he were, he's giving up 6 inches and 71 pounds to Bennett.

    Fuller:
    6'
    194lbs

    Bennett
    6'6"
    265lbs

I'm excited about Shazier but I still would have loved if they landed Fuller. In the end, I think they got the right guy, it starts up front for the Steelers and I think Shazier will be an impact player.

First time you watch the clip it looks like he pile drives him. When I went back and looked at it a couple of times it looks more like he kicks his ffet out from under him and jerks on his helmet causing Fuller to land on his head and neck. Whatever we call it the whole thing looks scary.

Yup a fight is one thing, putting a guy on his head/neck like that in practice is BS!

    1. Size difference is ridiculous. Not a fair fight.
    2. Fuller was clearly not expecting that. He probably thought he was just going to get yelled at.
    3. Fuller didn't even try to stop Bennett or fight back! This was an attack, nothing more.
    4. The reason Bennett was mad in the first place is Fuller "tackled" him, but what really happened was Kyle made a very deft strip attempt at the ball. I wish our guys would do more of that. Also, it's not Fuller's fault Bennett fell. He went for the ball, and Bennett (rightly) put all his effort into retaining the ball, and falling down was the result. If he'd dropped the ball, he wouldn't have even wobbled. But he held on like a pro. That's just a good football play by both guys. Then Bennett turned into a punk. He didn't even attack Fuller in an "honorable" way, if there is such a thing.
    5. You see a lack of fire, I see a man keeping his cool under pressure. I don't care what kind of fire you have between plays as long as you are a monster during the plays. That tape is nothing but reasons to have drafted Kyle Fuller.

I'm very happy with Shazier, but I'll be watching Fuller. He was who I thought we'd get.

I don't see a lack of fire Snack, I was more shocked that Bennett was able to flop him like that. To me it says the Bears should be concerned about physical receivers and TE's possibly getting their hands on Fuller and having success blocking him and not about his skills

I don't see that at all, for every reason Snack pointed out. If I'm a Bears fan, the only thing that concerns me about that incident is that Bennett nearly injured our #1 pick.

I would take Fuller over the Steelers current crop of CBs.

You think that's gonna happen on the field? Numbers 1-3 above. Name your favorite physical, aggressive Steeler around the same size as Fuller. Troy Polamalu? Hines Ward? If either of them were in Fuller's shoes, the same thing happens. A professional football player Bennett's size will ALWAYS be able to do that to a player Fuller's size, if the bigger guy is doing it by surprise and the smaller guy doesn't really try to stop him.

In a football scenario, I doubt in a game Fuller just stands there. If you put those two guys in a blocking drill, Fuller competes like a player. He's not guaranteed a win at all. He might get blocked. He might win. But he doesn't get "piledriven." If I want to see how he'll do against physical receivers and tight ends, I'll look at his tape and see what he does in practice in that situation. Doesn't make sense to judge a running back's ability to break tackles based on how well he escaped when some linebacker tackled him from behind on the way to the locker room. This is the same thing. All you can really judge from that tape is Fuller's weight and Bennett's strength.

I couldn't get the video on NFL.com to work, so I looked at Youtube for the video. After watching the one I found a dozen times or so, I can see why Bennett was in Fuller's face. I assume they are not really supposed to be tackling too much, and only just putting their hands on the ball carrier to signal the play is over. Even though they had pads on, isn't it kind of an unwritten rule in camp to let up? The fact that Fuller spun him around, I can see Bennett getting a hot head about it and wanting to put the Rookie in his place.

There was nothing wrong with what Fuller did, actually thought it was kind of wussy that Bennett went down so easily.

And there is a difference between putting a rookie in his place and risk ending his season which very well could have happen if he caused a shoulder or neck injury.

    Total punk move by Bennett.

Alright Snack I am not knocking the guy nor saying he can't be physical. My initial viewings seem to have clouded my first few posts. I thought Fuller had over pursued and like many CB's do in the NFl threw his hand out to try and stop forward progress or anything and caught facemask hence Bennett's reaction. After your post I did go back and viewing it after your response you are right Fuller clearly was going for a strip and was playing till the whistle. In the article Bennett's claim that he is a Bad@$$ on the field and doesn't believe in trying in practice makes the whole thing laughable.

Now to Fuller's physicality, I never had a horse in the draft process so I'm not dogging the guy. IIRC from the draft room thread there were proponents of Fuller who had him as a complete CB that could step in day one, while opponents said he played a lot of man coverage and would be less effective in a zone coverage scheme. That maybe why Bennett attacking him stands out to me because it goes aganst what I would expect a guy who excels at man coverage would do. Again Snack you are 100% right in that situation Fuller got punked and it wasn't a fair evaluation I made. That being said I hope he is able to show some physicality because the division he is in is going to be a nightmare for match-ups

Vikings: Peterson, Rudolph, Felton, Patterson, Jennings
Lions: Megatron, Ebron, Pettigrew, Bush, Tate maybe?
Packers: Pick your poison because Rodgers is going to sling it all over the field.

Now not that if the Steelers had drafted him it would be much better but the NFC North is scary with guys who can fight for the tough catch.
