    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap10...eau-expects-johnny-manziel-to-start-in-week-1

WE talked about this at work tonight because NFL.com and Network seem to be pushing the story that he looked good in their scrimmage and he was closing the gap on Hoyer. Now to me I would sit him unless there was an emergency like last year for the Browns. Playing Hoyer gives you a solid shot at wins, playing Manziel will put butts in the stands but also makes the games more of a gamble. Personally I hope he does start and the new/old attitude Steeler's LB ring his bell.

I'm guessing this was DL's way of saying "Please, please, please, start that rookie QB for our first game of the season." DL loves to go after those rookie QB's and he has the talent now to make things really difficult for JM.

IMO right now Hoyer is their best option.

If they start him, it's purely financial, certainly not about winning the home opener. I read he ran with the 1's and went 1-7 with an int.

    I'm terrified.

I'd say their best option is to start Connor Shaw and have him take a knee every down.

I hope they have to use shaw by halftime. we don't need our guys chasing johnny dirtball around all day. McCullers on one good play could land on this kid and crush him into a fine powder, which would leave a crater and a rolled up hundred dollar bill left on the field.

hoyer knows a little about the defense but he's never seen it with this speed. he'll also get crushed.

so yea, I could see connor shaw having to kneel down every play to end this game.:smiley1::cool:

Best for us is to play him... He won't get away with sandlot FB in the NFL. He will get rung up pretty quickly and be done. So I hope he does start so we can put Johnny Over-rated in his place. :)

Best for the Browns is to sit him. Imagine if he truly turns out to be terrible this year. All that hope and smoke coming out of Cleveland for nothing. Imagine the hit ticket sales would be next year if Johnny can't deliver.

Personally I would start Hoyer. He was doing well until he was hurt. With Johnny you are only guaranteed an early draft pick. QB is the one position you can't get away with reckless and not taking care of the ball, which seems to be his problem so far in camp. Plus starting Hoyer keeps the hype machine in full force.

The Steelers are going to win anyway, it doesn't matter who the Browns start at QB.

This will be the Clowns Super Bowl Part I........this game is not an automatic win. I consider this game a must win.....imagine our first loss is to Cleveland with Johnny as the starter. If that happenes we will hear the media talking about this game all the way through week 5.

Not a fan of his, but I remember our boys having some success with our QB and his sandlot style. And I remember a non throwing scrub QB beating us last year... Set the tempo for one of the crappiest losses I've witnessed against a lousy team and that was Pryor and the Raiders!

I don't who care who they throw in the starting role, but we better show up and kick the crap out of them and set the tone moving foreward! Take nothing lightly or for granted is the demeanor I'd like to see this year... And just whoop some ass!

Dobbler, Alot of fans seem to think that this game will be a easy win. I agree with everything you just stated. I hate it when we play Cleveland first.....imagine what tempo they will have for the season if they kicked our butts in game one.

How easy it is or not, I don't know but I'm pretty confident the Steelers will win if they start Manziel. LeBeau eats rookies up. Hoyer is their best chance to win that game.

I think we'll win too, but if IIRC, the Browns were in just about every game last year, they have talent.

Too early to tell. They have 4 preseason games that'll determine whether he starts or not.

The Browns do have talent and they hung around in every game they have played against the Steelers the last couple of years. They need a fast start and to finish the Browns when they have them down. Manziel is the x-factor right now liek some one said before remember the Oakland game, or even that preseason game against the Colts where Luck threw a couple of interceptions and had his first three drives stall on three and outs before he settled down, erased it from his mind and played solid ball, beating the Steelers if I remember correctly. Hoyer is a known factor with out their deep threat in Gordon he will look to make the short completions like he learned in NE and hopefully all the speed that is new on the D will allow that to be his undoing.

The Browns aren't a gimme win no more, and even if they were, we forgot how to take a gift wrapped win some time ago. Time to change that!

As much as I hate to admit it, I tend to agree with Dobbler, and crew...
Waaay to early to tell if Manziel has what it takes to be the "second coming of Ben"... But...
We live and die, by Ben extending plays... At least for the early part of his career.
Johnny`s never gonna shake off tacklers at 5 foot 11 and3/4 inches, like Big Ben does in the pocket, but he MAY
elude them with his speed, and gain yards downfield(1st downs. if he`s smart, he will step out of bounds, A LOT!)
He also MAY not... these aren`t college defenders he`s facing now.
I think the Clown`s best interests are to start Hoyer.
He`s not exactly proven, either, tho.
I think OUR best interests are to prepare as if we are facing Manziel, and if it turns out to be Hoyer, it`s much easier, to change the defense, to face a traditional qb, than to try and change a defense that has NOT been preparing for the read option/ elusive type qb, than the other way around.
WE WILL CRUSH THEM, EITHER WAY!!!
Put my pick in now, for the 1st week of predict the score...
    Steelers 31 Stains 17!
(Hope they don`t score that many, but, the last few years have left me expecting the other team to score a few... I truly hope that changes this year!!!:butcher::clowns::herewego!:

Pryor didn't do anything after that long TD run, if our offense had been firing like it was in the second half of the season, Raiders never would have won that game. As for preseason, DL is only running a very vanilla defense, not to mention nary a starter. I think he has lost 2 times to a rookie QB when it matters, Weeden and Pryor. No way Manziel wins that game if he plays.

I don't think this game is a gimme. But I like our chances especially if Johnny starts. Josh Gordon probably won't be there which definitely helps. The Browns have some talent but I think with the changes we made this off-season and the upgrade in speed on defense we are better prepared for sand lot football. I also think our offense will put up points which will force the Browns to put the ball in the air when behind forcing Hoyer or Manziel into some difficult situations.

Either way hate the Browns and hopefully we stomp them back to Ohio no matter who plays QB!!!
