Suisham gets a new contract

They have signed him through 2018 per twitter, no contract details yet.

 

creates some stability. I wish his KO's were longer but as far as scoring, he's a good one.

 

I like it, but I do hope it's easy to get out of in a couple years, in case he drops quickly like Jeff Reed.

 

Last season he set the Steelers FG conversion rate at 93%, except for those 2 misses in the Raiders game he was great.

 

4 yrs is a long time for a kicker. too much risk unless they have solid offload options.

 

I like it. He is reliable in a very difficult environment to kick in.

 

It seems the criticism is the same for nearly every Steelers kicker all the way back to Roy Gerella. None of them have ever been able to kick the ball deep consistently on kick offs.

Gary Anderson was the best we ever had at both and we let him go way too soon because signing kickers long term wasn't back then and still isn't the norm.

It was a huge mistake letting Gary go and break records while playing another 8 seasons in the NFL.

 

I agree. I can live with the limited leg strength, but kickers can go south in a hurry. Hopefully the signing bonus was light.

 

wasn't it a million dollars he wanted a season? I remember something about that.

as for suisham, he is what he is. he's kicked in some cold places and in a lot of weather at this point and he's used to our division rivals places too. these are good things.

I wonder if it lowered his cap hit any?
