We're having a big family BBQ, followed by a bonfire and shooting off a bunch of fireworks. What do you have planned for the 4th?

Unfortunately I have to work. One of the drawbacks to being a company that has more overseas business that is growing than domestic. When I get done though we are lighting off some fireworks, grilling some steaks and watching the little ones run through the sprinkler. Hope everyone stays safe and has a great weekend

Big family cookout. And my daughter who's in the USAF is coming home for the first time since she left home 6 months ago...

Her Mom doesn't know. Not sure how we pulled the surprise off, but it's going to be a big one.

WOW! You're allowed to have bonfires? And fireworks? Well, I never! Such things are not allowed in San Diego.
We're doing Baseball, hot dogs, apple pie and Oldsmobile, then we'll watch the cities' fireworks.

Sounds great (minus the working part). At least you get to come home and enjoy some time, though. Have fun.

I'm not exactly sure on the legality and what not. Everyone does it, including the deputy sheriff who lives next door, so we just go with the flow. :)

I'd love to see some city fireworks, but there aren't any worth driving to that I'm aware of. Must be pretty sweet over the water there.

Well, that's something else altogether. There's an "enviromental lawyer" who keeps suing to stop the fireworks over the water citing toxins from the gunpowder. All he's done is make the shows more expensive for the city. The city of San Diego won't allow bonfires even on the beach claiming it's too expensive to cleanup all the time.
Out where I live, it's not allowed because it's so dry. As I write, there's another brush fire burning about 20 miles east of us.

    Ugh.

I can respect burning bans in dry areas. I've lived in wildfire areas before (AK, TX) and it's no joke. While you'd think most people can be responsible, it seems that most people aren't.

That's why I'm amazed she's still none the wiser. She usually sniffs them out quickly. (I sometimes have to buy her presents the night before or she'll find them or find out somehow what I bought).

great story ray. thank that young daughter for her service for me.

TTF, sorry about the thread in steelers talk. I have to get back the front page section when I log in. I somehow minimized it on my border and always miss the stuff you are already all over when I post. anyway , we are picnicking and may go blow off the box of bullets I got for fathers day with the boys. then go watch fireworks tonight as well as the one's I'm sure my son bought. this will be the 3rd night we have seen local displays and different locals are having them all weekend. the burgh always had a nice display but I haven't been there for it in several years. everyone enjoy and stay safe.:flag::herewego::cool:

Yeah, around here it is against the law to set off personal fireworks but no one pays any attention to that law, like speed limits and imigration laws, it means nothing to most but being an old man and from an old generation I try and abide by the laws. I think of Independence Day as a day 238 years ago when we ceased being British Subjects and became Americans, thanks to the many who fought for that and I also remember those who fought to keep it that way. So lets all party and have a good time to celebrate that....

Just worked the horseshoe pit throwing some shoes later with friends coming over. Most of my family went out of town with their campers. Having a cookout at the end of the property (fire pit) People cross the way do fireworks every year which are pretty awesome coming from a backyard. Now need to go out and practice making a few ringers. Happy 4th TTF and others! :flag:
