I agree. that is one reason that I was opposed to spending an early pick on one. this group is fast and dangerous. imo

Summing up the article basically we won't know anything till camp we then go from speculation to evaluation the competition begins. The no huddle offense will be a dominant factor this yr.strengthening our run and receiving game really looking forward to July 25th and beyond. Maybe a poll on which receivers make roster?

The problem with the WR group is NOT the talent, it is simply the questions marks.

    A. Brown...known

    L. Moore...vet who has produced in the past, but lost his job last year to a younger player
DHB...vet with speed and obvious talent, outside of his hands. Can he fix that? He is big and fast.

Wheaton...pick from last year who basically lost the year to injury
Bryant....draft pick this year who has all the talent in the world, but work ethic issues reportedly
    J. Brown...unproven draft pick from last year's PS
Moye...made roster last year. Tall and fast, but skinny. Unproven

The WR core is 1 proven player, 2 vets with question marks, and 4 players who are basically rookies.

I think Moore is very proven and will play a big part this season.

    Steelers will keep Moye
not sure how J Brown automatically jumps into the line up after a couple of OTA's

Moye will be cut, someone has to go and I believe JB has a higher ceiling. The competition was neck and neck going into last season, Moye most likely got the nod for having a couple more inches on JB. What has Moye done to cement his spot on the roster?

What has JB done? I don't get the love for that guy. Reminds me of the following Frank Summers had, for reasons I couldn't understand

So you're not excited about anyone until they are proven?

    I like the POTENTIAL...
But, then again, I thought Limas Sweed had potential...
Not trying to be a jerk, but, wr seems to be a difficult position for MOST rookies to transition to the NFL, and even when they do... They seem to be headcases...
Not only our willingness to part with Santonio, but look around the league, at the Josh Gordon`s, etc...
Something about receivers` mindsets, leads me to believe they are prone to be divas, more than other positions.
I know that is an over-generalization, but really..
Look at Ocho Stinko, and the like... If I thought about it a little longer, I`m sure I could come up with more examples...
The Randy Mosses, the Braylon Edwardses, the Kellen Winslow Jr`s, etc... Mike Wallace, and the "young money crew"... etc...
I hope to be proved wrong.
I really do believe we have "potential", and I KNOW we have a great QB.
A line that "should" protect him, and tight ends/ runningbacks, that can catch the ball as well.
I guess my expectations are tempered, because i have truly expected our offence to light up the scoreboard, for at least the last 4 years...
    I`m hopin.
    GO STEELERS!

That's not what I said. I just don't understand all the love JB gets. He gets talked about like he's going to be a stud in the NFL. He was drafted very late and couldn't even make the team last year. I just don't see what there is to be excited about when it comes to him. The same thing has happened on here with other guys. Frank Summers comes to mind, he was talked about like he was a god. It's always a guy that was undrafted or drafted very late. I get the excitement for Wheaton even if I don't fully agree with it, but with JB, I just don't understand it.

It's the "Rudy" syndrome or the underdog syndrome. People get excited by guys that have a shot at defying the odds and lately the Steelers have had a fair share of guys that fit that mold and fire the imagination. As you brought up with the Frank the tank reference sometimes they just don't fit the ideal we have made up in our heads sometimes they exceed their own expectations but fall short of fans expectations. WE just want to hear those encouraging stories about undrafted or late rounds jewels because he keeps the little boy in all of us hope that we can go to Fantasy camp and impress enough to get a camp invite even if it is just in our heads.

Like his attitude, hes a hard worker, continually shows improvement, fights for the ball, everywhere hes been people speak highly of him, good blocker, good size, turning a lot of heads in OTA's. I think he could be a good possession receiver for us, move the chains type of guy and redzone threat.

wasnt targeted too many times last season but he showed what he can do when his number was called... The same td he dropped against Bmore was the same fade he caught against the bengals for a td, I just can't find the link

Only thing we've seen from JB is what couldn't help him win a roster spot over Moye but hey I guess other fans knows best

Yeah, with his 2 receptions for 20 yards and a TD, I guess they should just hand the spot to him. With that body of work, I don't know how he hasn't wrestled the #1 spot from Antonio.

Justin Brown has not proven himself any more than Moye has. That being said he was taken 9 picks earlier than A. Brown was in the draft, so it isn't like there is no shot for the guy. IMO, we have 7 guys for at most 6 spots, maybe 5. Competition is a good thing.

I never said he was, simply pointed out that Moye isn't either when someone questioned how people are putting JB ahead of Moye.

As long as they show enough to impress the coaching staff enough that they make the roster then I don't care who makes it out of JB, DHB, or Moye. I am pulling for JB more out of the 3 (just personal preference) but wouldn't be disappointed if one of the others made it and he did not. Whoever shows the most and wants it the most should get the spot. Better yet, maybe we get lucky and 2 of the 3 make the roster? :smiley1:

With the Moye and JB thing yes it was just mini camp but still JB was getting time with the ones. I think Moye is gone as well.

I think JB makes it over Moye unless they keep 6 WRs, JB gets the edge he can play special teams. Can Moye be placed on the PS this season?

All the "this guy has really looked amazing in camp" reports may sound like useless filler, but they aren't always. Yes, sometimes people say/write stuff like that because they need something to say/write, or because they have some kind of weird investment in a particular player. But what about when it's true? What about when a guy is tearing it up in practice? What about when he's turned a corner in his skills, showing drastic improvement from his rookie season, but simply hasn't been able to show the public yet because he's buried on the depth chart? The answer is, those reports come out, like the ones about JB.

I remember reports like this about Antonio Brown, after his rookie season. Many watching him at practice felt like he was better than Emmanuel Sanders, who had a strong rookie season. Based on what we'd seen on the field in 2010, that was crazy talk. Turned out to be true though, and AB had a monstrous 2011 preseason, and then went on to become the great player he is. There were reports in 2009 about rookie Mike Wallace, and how his speed seemed faster than his 40 time of 4.33, and in fact fast enough to make a huge impact on the league. We all knew he would be fast, but the first inkling of just how scary his speed was came from reports like we're hearing about JB. Then we saw it on the field.

I don't remember that many real reports about Frank Summers. I remember the fans being excited about him (fans were also excited about Jarron Gilbert), but that's different from reporters and players, who are actually seeing the players practice. What I do remember is that Frank was a running back in college. He was built like a tank, and had good receiving skills. Turning him into a fullback meant teaching him how to be a lead blocker, which was foreign to him. That is no easy transition. Not every stocky guy knows how to do that. To succeed here, he was either going to need to play his natural position of RB, or need more time to become a functional lead blocker to be a FB, or at least have a different OC besides BA. I remember he looked terrible as a blocker initially, but was gradually getting better. He went down with a back injury after two games with us, then floated around a little, but it looks like he caught on with Buffalo last year, who actually involved him. He racked up some yards and a couple touchdowns.

I'm not saying JB will be the next AB or Mike Wallace, but there's more to go on than what we had with the fan-driven Frank Summers hype, which failed to ignore the gravity of the task he was taking on - and how little time he'd be given to do it. If the reports about Justin Brown are accurate, then I expect him to make the team, stick around for the length of his contract, and make some catches in games. That's more than enough to get excited about, considering we're talking about a 6th round pick who didn't do much last year and was relegated to the practice squad. And there's potential for more.

I'll keep it simple by saying I root for both and hope the front office fields the best man for the job in Both JB and Moye's case. Although, last year I thought Moye was not used near enough and situationally could have easily shown "more" as well as "less" and we'd have a better table from which to pound our fists in and aye or nay vote.

So much banter about the 5th or 6th WR spot, which whoever makes the team won't see the field anyways.
