Yeah, it was discussed in another thread but no one knows the amount. Looks like Worilds is putting the screws to them. Doesn't sound like the Steelers will budge off their offer, ball is in Worilds court.

If you're him, you're smarter to play without the contract. He's set for money this year. A strong season will drive his price way up, and he'll be an UFA. He'd certainly get more, either from us or another team. Or we franchise him, he makes even more for one season, and then hits the open market the following year. The only way he loses by not signing the Steelers' offer is by getting hurt and missing most of the year. That's really the only risk he's taking.

Thats a pretty huge risk, most players don't like rolling the dice like that. Another risk is he has a down season and diminishes his market value.

Injury is a risk, but he already has $10M locked up, and I suspect the potential difference in Pittsburgh's 2014 contract and the field's 2015 contract could be $20M or more. Suppose we offered him 5 years, $35M. If he sets the world on fire he could get a $50M or $60M contract next year.

As for having a down season, I think Jason agrees with me - that won't happen. The back half of last season wasn't a fluke. It was him coming together. That's what we'll see from now on, as long as he's healthy. The man is explosive.

I'm not saying he shouldn't take our offer. Injury is a serious risk, and I'm sure it's a lot more money than he thought he'd ever see this time last year. I'm just saying that there is significant room for increase, and as long as the potential for more is significant, most players will wait for the most money. I'd rather he signed right now. I just don't expect him to.

he's basically shooting himself in the foot...looks like he wants to move on with a team that will pay him top dollar... if that's the case, then good riddance after the season..... I believe his replacement may already be on the team, and i'm sure the coaches and f.o. are looking at that

How many players across the league does that describe? They want two things: a good situation, and as much money as possible. There are plenty of other options for Worilds. I wish it wasn't that way too, but come on. If Baltimore offered Ben $50M per year, he'd take it.

I think this situation is a little different though Snack, it has more the feel that Worilds is still stomping his feet because he feels they didn't get him on the field soon enough, as if there were scrubs in front of him. I definitely think he is putting the screws to them over that. I'm sure the Steelers made a pretty good offer to him, for him not to take it seems a little odd.

Was there a quote or something to lead you to believe that? I haven't read about any feet-stomping. I'm assuming he hasn't taken it because he thinks he'll get more next year, either from Pittsburgh or elsewhere. And unless he goes down with a big injury, I think he's right. I'm sure the Steelers made a fair offer, but fair isn't always the same as best. Plenty of guys get unreasonably high offers, and he's in the type of situation to get one of those. And anyway, like I said, a fair offer next year will be more than a fair offer this year.

It's a bit of a gamble, but I think the odds are on his side. I don't condone it, but I understand it. And it doesn't necessarily have to involve bad blood. Until I hear about any of that, I'm assuming it's just business.

I'll look later, he has on more then one occasion expressed how they didn't let him get on the field quick enough.

Hmm. Debatable, considering who was ahead of him. I definitely agree with that sentiment somewhat. I thought they should have worked him in more, just like they should have worked Cam Heyward in more. Still, it's a leap from, "They should have put me in sooner" to "I don't want to play here anymore" or "You owe me extra money for not playing me sooner." I still think it's more likely he simply values himself higher than the number they gave him.

This one isn't so damning, I seem to recall a different quote that was pretty apparent he was ticked off about being held back.

All sorts of spiteful people in the world, Snack, I've known a few. Is Worilds doing that? Who knows but he has said some things that have made me raise an eyebrow. I like Worilds, think he has a lot of potential but he has had his share of nagging injuries and really hasn't done anything to this point to be demanding a big pay day. Maybe you're right, and he's just banking on playing like he did for the last 8 games for an entire season and get himself a nice fat contract, but it won't be here.

Exactly.. Could be nothing or something. Guess we wont know for a bit yet if he is healthy. This alone should have the organization pause and reflect.

We really do not know with any certainty how healthy he is or if he can remain healthy. We might have a china kendrell bell doll on our hands hehe

I guess it will depend on the type of injury it is how sever and how easily he recovers. They are saying calf. Hopefully its only a calf and not a hammy. I remember Woodley struggling with a hammy for a full year.

well, Troy did earn the right at least to have a wait and approach situation later in his career. Worilds had a handful of good games... Hard to play hard ball with. He has been injury nagged, so it goes without saying "prove yourself". He also did get a handful of playing time here and there and couldn't cut the mustard until he switched to woodleys side. Could be a coaching mishap to have him out of place I guess... Who knows? In my opinion, even if he does have a monster year, I would love to see them avoid another Woodley contract at this point.

BF I believe you are talking about JW having butler tell him no matter what he did he wasn't starting. something very close to that anyway.
I don't understand the being bitter about that though. he was handed the job last year and blew it out of the gate to the rookie. he's had other chances to start though and also didn't fair as a guy that deserves top pay. so lets franchise him again, it will get him here and paid for another year after this one, unless our new guys flat out take that money from him. if ya know what I mean. he's allowing a lot of new guys to get some hard looks this year.

Tried real hard to stay out of this one, because so many good points were made for and against signing him...
    Rational arguments.
But yet again... it boils down to...
    IT`S A BUSINESSS....
    It`s almost like that`s a cop-out on both sides...
The player to the team, or the team, to the player...
    What happened to LOYALTY?
Oh Yeah, I forgot, free agency.
Teams` gotta pick who to pay, and players gotta pick who to play for.
Damn shame, but, it is what it is.
The Rooney`s were very cheap in the late 80`s, early 90`s, becoming a farm team for the league, IMHO...
Now, they`ve learned their lesson, and have to pay for some talent to stay on their team...
But, NO team can pay all 52 guys...
    Gotta pick n choose...
If Worillds wants his payday, I can`t blame him, but I really think any other team would be taking a pretty big gamble on paying him top dollar right now...(Including us)
after this season.... Maybe... but, that`s the gamble...
We`ve already spent some signifigant money, on people we wanna keep...
If he WANTS to play here, and has a good season, the Family has shown they will find a way to make it work, if they have faith in him, if not, they will rent him for an expensive tag...if no one else steps up.
If he wants the money more than he wants to play here, who cares? We don`t want those kind of players here, anyhow...
Enjoy your payday, if that`s all that matters.
    We can replace ya!
    GO STEELERS!

Ed's bit on Worilds sounded a little suspect to me. According to an article on the Trib today, that offer never existed.

I was told that Worilds was not offered a contract by the Steelers and that there have been no talks between the two sides since Worilds agreed to the transition tag three months ago. It was recently reported that Worilds rejected a contract offer by the Steelers, which remains on the table.

“An absolute lie,” the person said.

It is not unusual for there to be two different stories during contract negotiations. In fact, it’s the norm, so take it for what is worth.

Worilds would not comment on his contract situation when I asked, and that’s about status quo for him. Worilds is a very quiet and guarded individual that would never talk about something as sensitive as his contract situation.

Bouchette was wrong? Shocked to my core.

I actually believe either side. Wouldn't surprise me if they gave him an offer and he turned it down. Wouldn't surprise me if none if that happened yet. Hopefully this latest report is true, and they'll make him an offer soon.

When am I going to stop listening to Bouchette :frustrated:

I know there is noting definitive from either report but given Bouchettes spotted past, I'm going with this latest report.

    Ed's useless :bscow:
