The Epic conclusion to 8-8 Debate?

I'll keep it short, sweet and simple.

The NFL is becoming far more competitive. Therefore making a team with a 9-7 record a playoff team almost every year. In fact had the steelers been just one game better they would have made the playoffs.

So why then are there fans that act like Colbert and Tomlin ruined this team, when in actuality the steelers have been one or 2 wins away from the playoffs the past 2 years...all while losing all their leaders and the core of their defense.

we're in good shape. I believe any one who is truly realistic see's that. I also would like to say...that opinions are opinions...but they can still most definitely be wrong.

This 8-8 season is much easier to swallow then the previous one, at least they are headed in the right direction. I want better for my team then 8-8 or 9-7 though, I'd like to see a lethal offense, putting up 30 points a game and a hard hitting intimidating defense, I'd like to not be sitting on the edge of my couch every week, I'd like to dismantle some opponents on occasion. Basically, I'd like to have a dominant team.

I believe they are in the process of putting together such a team.

I've always had a flair for the dramatic Ha ha. I agree with Blast as well..good post. It would be nice to see them win more easily, I always swear being a fan of theirs has taken years off my life. But when I look back it's nice that at least their games are always pretty damn entertaining these days. For me the only way I'd be as down on this current roster as some, would be if I didn't see any talent on this team...but I really think it's obvious theres a pretty good core being built here again.

Also as many wins as possible is what we all want, but in honesty its all about whatever it takes to make the playoffs....because those teams that sneak in like to win super bowls and playoff games.

well blast glad things are back to normal and i have to disagree.. you said last year was easier to sawllow at 8-9 than the previous year.. i hav eto respectfully disagree... and for one main reason.. yeah i knw last yer we were 0-4 and finished 8-4 .. i hear that and i agree with that .. where i disagree is that 2 years when we went 8-8 ben was out a couple games with his ribs and other injuries so we were without ben for part of the season.. and when he did come back he wasnt the same after the injury for a few more games.. BUT last year we had big ben at full strength for all 16 games .. which is unusual for him to pay all 16 games ... so we were at ful strength with out most important player for all 16 games and we still only won 8.. that why i think it was a lot harder to accept the 8-8 last year.. we jsut didnt have the "well ben was injured for four games excuse" ...

The 2 seasons were the exact opposite of each other. In 2012 they started well and finished poorly, last season they started poorly and finished well. Looking at the big picture, you hope that the way they finished will carry over into this coming season. Whereas in 2012, you had no such hope and in fact, the poor finished carried over into last season. That's why its easier to swallow, because they are on the right path, IMO.

but heath was. I still say he was the biggest downfall of last year to the offense. spaeth going down along with heath being down really really hurt the offense. let's not forget then our 3rd TE Johnson then went down too. ben never could do it alone, nor can any other franchise qb. 16 games or not.

we will be far more seasoned this year on offense. 8-8 this season is unacceptable with all the weapons at bens disposal and a much improved line. a good contender can pull off a couple of games without a starting qb. that's when you know your team is balanced and strong. all we can do is watch and hope they stay healthy. last year and the year before have nothing to do with this year.

they will for sure have a chuck noll arm band on I would think. that I'm almost certain of. beyond that we will have to wait and see, but last year has little to do with it.

As soon as they add two more playoff teams 8-8 will get a team to the playoffs probably more frequently, realistically though, no team starts their season with a goal to have an 8-8 season....

yeah you can see it either way ... damn i was drunk when i wrote that first post.. jesusssss... cant type for S*&T... haha .. anyway yeah .. but the eyar ben missed 4 games and we still went 8-8 .. then last year.. what if ben had missed 4 of those last 12... we woud have been 7-9 or 6-10 .. whats pathetic is .. here we are .. die hard steelers fans discussing which 8-8 season was better.. i think the answer is THEY BOTH SUCKED.. maybe for differnet reasons but they SUCKED.. i see what you mean the 8-4 finish shows promise for this year.. lets hope to God u are right
