How come Cody Wallace never gets any lover around here..?? Last few games of the season, this guy kicked butt. To me, he is far more physical then MP coming off the ball and his pass protection is not bad either. I was hoping that he could push for a starting job this year and maybe Maurkie could move over and play OG. In my eyes, Maurkie has never lived up to the dominating player we thought he was going to be. However, the media has over hyped him to be the next great center for the Steelers, when he cant carry the jock-strap of the past three; Hartings, Dawson and Webster. I would like to see the Oline get back to pushing other teams around an imposing their will on the D. Imposing player, with a nasty side, is exactly what Wallace brings to the table. Wallace brings that edge to the Oline that has been missing or lacking for a long time. IMO, the reason the Oline is SOFT is because of Maurkie and Gilbert. Its just the system they come from...UF..Soft school...If the steelers are smart, they don't pay tons of coin to keep MP around. When they might have a gem in Wallace..

He ain't getting any lover because he's too aggressive on the first date (just ask the dolphins) hahahahaha sometimes things just don't work out.

on a serious note though, I agree MP makes a better guard than center and there was virtually no drop off between Velasco and Wallace being called into action. A few of us around here agree with that analogy, but get ready for the backlash. And welcome to the board!

Thanks Bro...Its been a min since posting but Ive been a reader of the board for a looong time. Lol, like from the old board back in the day. When BigCurt and SwannStallworth ran the board lol.. However, this site kills that old board by far and you guys have awesome convo on here. Great place for us fans to keep up day to day...and kill time till ball starts..

Your so right about Wallace's aggressiveness but to me thats what makes him different. You cant teach being physical, its just in a player to play that way . If the Oline coach can teach him not to over extend and to stay disciplined with his footwork he'll be ok. Hopefully, this guy well be ready to show something in camp this year. Wishful-thinking,maybe...lol

Don't know what gave you that idea, pretty much everyone here likes Dr Wallace and happy they signed him.

That said, Pounce is far superior to him and won't be changing positions. Munch doesn't think he is overrated at all, thinks he is one of the best and is a major reason he took the job here.

    :this!: I wouldn't call Wallace a "gem." I'd call him a "backup."

Better than Legursky, do you think?

Not that they're in any sort of competition, just interested.

Can Wallace play guard if necessary?

yes he can play guard and did in one part of a game last year. most like Wallace from what I've read, I know I always have.

MP's biggest strength is his mobility. no I do agree, I wouldn't break the bank on him, but he is a good center.

The dropoff in talent from Pouncey to Wallace is pretty significant. I like Cody Wallace, as a role playing backup, but Maurkice Pouncey he is not.

I think Cody will always have a place in Steelers fans hearts after a slopy start last year. He's a hard knuckled bruiser with no problem taking one or giving one for the team. I think he'll earn his spot on this team.

Dropoff in talent I agree with... Drop off in results between MP, Legursky, Velasco, Wallace is hard to argue. MP is a fine center but a little overrated in my opinion. I prefer his agility at guard over a foster especially when in talks of another stab at the zone blocking scheme. I don't know that we'll bring Velasco back at all, but I think Wallace is more than apt at handling the anchor. Again, just my opinion... And the money save would be huge moving forward.

Steelersrule6, so since he's a backup he can't get any love? I mean, I always thought it was next man up???. Besides, who wants to remain a backup their whole career, I wouldn't. I think over the years , with all the injuries we have had, we have learned how important it is to have strong bench. Especially being MP's backup, dude stays hurt. I think the Steelers would be very smart to keep an (A2 i.e. Wallace and Velasco ) center, if you well. If this team expects to win anything their 2nd string has to be a stand up group of guys, ready at all times.

There is a drop of in talent between MP and Wallace. I also agree that Maurkie is a better player then Wallace. Maurkie definitely has more athletic ability an agility then Wallace has. However, MP is not that far ahead for Wallace and I cant remember a time when MP was knocking people of the ball like Wallace does. Where MP falls short is, power coming off the ball and creating movement at the point of contact. If you go back and watch the film of the last 4 games of the season, you can see the power Wallace has coming off the ball. Against Green Bay last year ,he was pushing that Dline 5 yards down field. Wallace plays with a lot of heart and passion and that's a big part of the game. Hopefully, MP can come in this year and show that he is man on that Oline....With coach Munchak coaching him up and 2nd year in this blocking scheme, maybe he can become that HOF player we all expected...but I wont hold my breath.

I don't think there is anything Wallace does better then Pouncey except prostate exams.

I am glad we have him as a back up though. He did a nice job last year.
