I'm not counting Jones out at a good back up who one day will be able to come in and compete. He is a football junkie and his football iq is through the roof. They stayed in the shotgun at OU and its going to take some time and practice for himto get used to it. Let's judge a kid after his rookie season.

Can't believe that made print but yeah, I'm hoping he becomes a viable back up too, maybe next season he can move up to the number 2 spot and they can cut Grad, save some money.

Personally, I think Gradkowski is the way to go and can be our Batch for years to come. He's a baller, the Garcia of today, and is home.

what is so special about gradkowski? he's no Charlie batch. Charlie was at least a starting qb in the nfl for years. so was Garcia. not the case with grad. I'm not sure why he's some kind of legend around here it seems like. of course he did beat us once.

he beat us once and i remember watching a bungals game while i was here in Myrtle Beach at oscard steelers sports bar one september .. of course i was rooting about against the bungals .. and he was the back up QB for some team.... maybe the browns? maybe tampa bay? dotn remember .. doesnt matter .. he had to start that day and beat the bengals.. ive love him ever since he won that game .. i always loved charlie when others said he was tooo old.. charlie had a way of keeping the steelers in the game... never had turnovers.. and jsut played to keep the game close and then let the D win the game in the end like 12-9 and his game plan usually worked.. i think grad is probably the same way.. smart... dont turn it over and hope to win in a close one... only difference is charlie had a great D to turn the game over to .. grad isnt that lucky anymore .. but in time of the new guys develop maybe he can use that theory?

Grad has started 20 games in his career, 11 in Tampa, 8 in Oakland, and one in Cleveland (against us). I think he is kind of a legend around here because he is a Pittsburgh native, and not a bad back up. I agree that he is no Batch, but it's not like he's a total scrub.

11 in 2006 plus 4 in 2007. 5 more since and wasn't very good in any of those. legend, not quite. this is not a quality qb we are talking about by any stretch of the imagination. a lot of guys have started games, it doesn't make them good.

Wouldn't want him as a starter but as a back up, I trust him to come in and get us a couple of W's if needed.

I agree haha I'm not trying to anoint him Ben's successor or anything, but we could do worse at the back up QB position. I was just pointing out that he at least has some starting experience (only really somewhat successful in Oakland). I think he's gets his "fan favorite" status from being a local guy.

Tickles me when our QB's come up in discussion people start evaluating their performance ...hell it's been so long since i seen either one on the field i doubt i'd recognize them let alone state their capabilities. Thank God for jerseys :lolol:

The glove worked for MJ might work for Landry!

Never said he was a legend, my consideration is merely BU material, but one that can stay around adding stability. I think he can be effective, like Batch, because everytime I've seen him start, even on bad teams, he was a gamer.

I haven't really noticed anyone else's support so have no idea about that aspect of it. I think he could be a good long term solution @ the position but we'll see. It's good to have reliable #3 always there so that we can look for the #2 guy.
