I'm not trying to stir the pot I just find it well funny that last year members were flying to Ben's defense and saying how they don't want the force fed press conferences like the Pats do, they want to know what Ben thinks because it's real and refreshing and what ever else they mentioned. So here we have an instance where its a good possibilty that he is just joking with a reporter but still speaking his mind and yet people don't want to believe it. As a competitive person I would hope that he was ticked that they didn't get him weapons in the first two rounds and make move to get weapons. As someone said earlier who cares what he thinks about the draft, if it were up to the Starting QB all teams would draft weapons in the first four if not five rounds, WR's TE's and RB's

I pretty much think the conversation went this way.

Reporter: Ben would it be fair to say that you are unhappy that the Steelres didn't try to move up and draft some of really talented offensive players that were still there in the first and second rounds?"

Ben smiles and chuckles replies " Well yeah anytime you have talented WR's and TE's like this years draft class had you are disappointed that you don't draft those guys because they would really help your team." pauses " but the front office identified the teams biggest need and I think they filled that by going and getting the players they did, guys that will really help our team."

Reporter ignores everything after the pause. "Ben you have stated in the past that you like taller recievers, they were quite a few tall receivers in this draft are you shocked that the front office didn't take your wishes into account and aggressively pursued these players?"

Ben smiles again and thinks to himself oh boy is this guy fishing lets see if he is paying attention. " Yes in the past I have said I like taller receivers I think they add a dimension to the game that makes it hard for teams to defend. Reporter stops listening after"Yes" Ben continues "I think we have a great mix with the guys they brought in so we have tall guys, possession guys, speed guys and I think they team will really benefit from having them in camp."

Reporter: "Thanks Ben that was great."

Next day headline reads dunt, dunt DUH!!!!!!!

Bottomline NONstory and something they don't need.

As I`ve said before, I sometimes wonder why we even listen to interviews given by anyone in the league.
I guess it`s our only chance to hear what the players/ coaches/ owners "think".
But for the most part, it is just politically correct, scripted, coached, "answers", given by whoever is being interviewed.
And the media has to do their job, and turn any percieved "slight", or quote taken out of context, into a headline to sell their product. (T.V. shows, magazines, papers, or online advertising)...
I find it much more refreshing, when someone like James Harrison, just refuses to play the game, and filter his comments.
(Kinda reminds me of Lambert, that way).
Yes, there are things that should be kept "in house", regarding your own teammates, but for the most part, I like it when people like Clark, Taylor, or whoever, actually say what`s on their mind.
Esp., when they are talking about topics, other than their own team.
What I would REALLY like to hear, is what the players say to each other when they are mixing with players from other teams, or other people, at the bars, or other social gatherings.
Or what they say in private at home.
Those are the things we will never know, and can never hope to know, when they all spout the same cliche`s to reporters.
Seems to me that any "official" interviews/ press conferences, are pretty much a waste of time, as far as learning what the speaker actually thinks about anything. With a few, very rare exceptions.
(Yes, including Mendenhall, and Redman. Even if I strongly disagree with some of their opinions, at least they had the balls to voice them, instead of saying what they were told everyone wanted to hear.)
    GO STEELERS!

Yeah, it is misleading when a reporter asks a "have you stopped beating your wife, yes or no?" type of question, and then edit out the question. The player's response seems to be bizarre without the context. (Kind of like when the interpretation of a public poll is given, ignoring the possible bias of the poll questions that were asked.)
