That was my biggest issue with Rainey. EVERYONE knew he was getitng th eball when he was in the game. I'm genuinely curious for anyone who has free times on their hands. Not counting the fumble game, how many times was he on the field where he was the target. In order to be successful with Archer, they're going to have to have him on the field more than just the times when the play is designed to go to him. Maybe thye can line him up behind Speath and Miller in a single wing and teams won't be able to see him. :lolol:

Quite possibly my favorite player to ever watch, simply amazing. If Archer turns out half as good, I'd be happy.

Exactly my point. It's not his height that bothers me. He has a slight frame. I'm not doubting his strength. Just concerned if he can handle the cumulative punishment. Putting on 10-20 pounds shouldn't be too difficult for him and would go a long way to helping his durability.

I took as one person comparing their sizes and then another person commenting on Barry Sanders but not comparing him to Archer.

I hope his head is on a swivel, a 250 lb
    LB will end his career.

Yeah, certainly not comparing the two from a RB or football perspective. Just from a height perspective. Barry Sanders, for my money, was the best RB of all time.

My point is height is overrated when it comes to RBs.

What's up with the screen name Ward and negativity? If he was thefirst guy his size to play in the NFL iIwould be worried but hhe's not and all the rest have done just fine.

I believe those players mentioned have 25 lbs
more to their frame. He is a situational player
that will have to have created mismatches
available to him to succeed.Chris Rainey work
out for you? How about Dexter Mccluster.I hope
the kid tears it up. He was
    drafted too high.

That's really the argument in a nutshell. I had him as a 4th-5th round guy. Comp pick in the 3rd isn't terrible value, but we definitely passed up on some good CBs at the time. The Steelers coaching staff is going to have to prove to fans that he WASN'T taken too high. They have work to do.

it's not like he didn't play against big people in college. the production is still there. 36 TD's from scrimmage is pretty darn good and that's not counting return TD's.

who cares if some decent cb's were still on the board? the fire power added to 3 phases of the game far outweigh what any 3rd rd. corner would have brought. he was at the very end of the 3rd rd.

10 TD's a year +. not to mention he makes defenses take him into account which takes pressure off someone else. Darrell green played defense for ages in the NFL and stayed the fastest man in the league for near two decades at 180lbs.

as far as the others having 25lbs. on archer, that's the premise of the comparison. HWHOF said 10lbs. would slow him down. those guys bigger than him were still very fast and elusive and it didn't seem to bother them.

the boy is elusive and other teams better not sleep on him. he's hard to get a solid shot on. show me another 3rd rounder that averaged over 10 TD's a season. the kid is built better than some think. he will be fine for what we need. we lost 16 TD's from the offense from last year, he will help make that up.

They were never going to take a CB in the 3rd round, they were initially going to take Bryant in the 3rd but ultimately took Archer because they feared he would be gone before Bryant, so took him first. Worked out for them. Now we'll have to wait to see if it works out on the field too. I think grabbing Archer there over a CB has much more upside.

Quite. A player's only drafter too high if he's still going to be there at the time of your next pick. I'm not convinced Archer would have been there in the 4th.

Just because he is a personal favorite of mine. How many passes did he get thrown? I know one catch was a pretty nice TD catch.
